Armed police rouse residents from beds after two men try to batter their way into property By Staff Reporters ARMED police roused residents from their beds in the middle of the night after reports of a gun being fired during an attack at a house in Scout Hill. The incident happened in the early hours of

Tuesday morning at a terraced property in Thornville Place, when two men – one of them with a gun – were seen trying to batter their way into the house before a shot was fired and they escaped driving a car the wrong way down the one-way street. Minutes later half a dozen armed officers surrounded the property and

lit it up with a floodlight before gaining entry. No one was injured, according to police. A neighbour who witnessed the event said several police cars had been in the street earlier in the day, with officers examining a black Audi parked nearby. The woman, who asked not to be named, said that it was difficult to sleep on one of the hottest nights of

the year and at around 2am she got up and saw two men examining a car parked outside the house which was the scene of the later incident. “It was strange,” she said. “They were going over it inch by inch, using the torch on a mobile phone and taking photos of it.” She went back to bed but about 45 minutes later a

car came the wrong way down the street from Huddersfield Road. “My husband got up to see what was going on and there were two men, one of them with what looked like two metal bars in his hands – we couldn’t tell what they were,” she added. She said the men began Continued on Page 3
