The Project is based on using biomimicry as a theme. The banana leaf as mimicing object to start off the project and derive the logic of banana leaf that is started to rotten down. (Dried out and then curl). To mimic this process, Rhino and its plug-in Grasshopper was a tool to work on. Not only the form was mimic but the whole idea of the school’s pedagogy is also being part of it. At first stage is to develop the idea in a smaller scale such as pavilion before move onto a full-scale project. Loop model, which the resources’re used most efficiently and turned back to be used in learning process again is implemented.
Most of the leftover stuff in the school will be recycle and reuse as well as the form also suggested that the higher the year the more intimacy the students they would need so the space for the higher year would be place in the core of the building, while the younger years are spreading out from the core. It has been carefully designed to respond well in all the aspect regarding the sun and wind directions. This is an innovative, a prototype and one of its kinds to respond to tropical climate such as Thailand.
First modeling’s focused on 3 topics of mimicing process, which is plant liter, dried leaf tensioning and combine both together. Then following steps is to choose one of the three to develop in detail.
The process was trying to achieve and mimicing the stage growing of banana leaf, which reconstructed down to the proportion, dimension and percentage of rotation. The generative models were used to select and develop on the criteria of space organization inside and site input data which is to define the quality of the leaf rotate could response the the surrounding context. For instance, micro climate, solar direction in order to select the electric generator to be located.
The first stage of generative and modeling result in a small pavilion which the code define the basic rule of growth. There’re potential in small scale object to be used as architectural devices. Some are structural efficient way to build, building finishing, floor plan organization. After that is next level of development is to build in scale of human to occupy. The implementation of structure also generated from leaf based model.
Grasshopper’s used as a tool for this project to visualize the algorithmic data in the most simply way. Variety stage of model is created to be options to choose for specific criteria. The software also generate internal floor plan, structural detail, finishing and skin, and fabricated model using the laser cut. The project’s consist of different kind of theory to achieve different kind of architectural tasks using the generative software which this knowledge could be applied to the other process of working in vary scale.

The project investigate on any system research involved with human which can be operated, generated or adapted in scale 1 to 5 models. This study’s objectives end up with proposal as a prototype to utilized functionality on itself. With the craftsmanship of Thai traditional weaving that utilized in bamboo material ranged from small scale until architectural purpose such as ceiling, wall finishing or furnitures. The parameters of the research agenda were the contrasting between artificial intelligence and tradition method of utilization, to bring these technology becomes part of intelligence community. Part of the study world be used cooperate with the analysis of BKK’s urban fabric in order to forming the model of future development of the city.

The process’s concluded in 3 steps begin with transform the physical generator such as human gestures, light intensity into digital signal in order to sync with the Grasshopper script. The other inputs come from sensors plug in to the Arduino board as measured tools. For instances, distance between observer and sensor, position of mouse in XY directions, these digital data turned as value in angle to operate the Servo motor to a curtain angle which the motors are connected to the arms inside weaving panels. The following research is how’s the material behaved with any scripting or input.

Phasi Charoen is one of the 50 districts (Khet) of Bangkok, Thailand. The district is bounded by other Bangkok districts (from north clockwise): Taling Chan, Bangkok Noi, Bangkok Yai, Thon Buri, Chom Thong, Bang Bon, and Bang Khae. Today’s mass transit BTS with 37 stations carrying passenger throughout central Bangkok and sub-urban area with connection of other mass transportation which changing flow of the city. As the metropolitan expand rapidly caused of urban sprawl ,human migration and lack of growth direction, transformed the existing settlements. Research focused on nodes and time element to explore a certain changing with the new development and infrastructure come. Analyze Bangkok in such a way that proposing opportunities for future developments.
The research contribute to the series of photograph taken at the site mostly of the facade, material and elevation of things. The pictures are applied through the mapping techniques combine CAD map with photograph, Google’s street view picture of facade in each area. The CAD data including infrastructure (road), existing building, river and canal. The completed version of mapping map provide the new ability to analyze the city which the graphic representation of the significant features. Some similar picture define of the frequently used of material. As a part of the city, Bangkok is construed with culture and sensation which hiding from tangible, visible. Nodes of growth is changing all the
time mostly with transportation which is the key of how people circulated the city. People tried to live closer to the transport system which in the past is water. Places ,such as temple, floating market were being as center. Arrival of new in infrastructure changed the way people live. Road becomes main attraction people used to travel with fossil fuel automobile as well as mass transit, Bangkok Mass Transit System (BTS). The following is rapidly growing and higher prize through the Central business district corridor (CBD) which effect poor people migrated out of the city cause the urban sprawl without direction of planning.

Nodes of growth is changing all the
time. The last elements added on to the research is time. Since Google Earth could explore the map backwards (Fig.1) in 2001, the aspects of changed give different perspective to the site. New infrastructure comes year by year. Most rapid changing was in 2004 and 2006, when there’s construction of intersections connecting central Bangkok to the northern province (Nonthaburi) and BTS station (Wuthakat) in follwoing year. With 16 years of observation, old city, which is compact unit living was destroyed along CBD corridor and vertical unit such as condominium, office building, commercial stores change the face of the city. New materials represent the new tone. Pixelated mapping technique’s used to define this issue. (Fig.2)

Figure 3 : Pixelated mapping technique - Phasi Charoen district (Analysis of year 2011-2016)
From elevation mapped data, resolution (pixel) becomes tools to simplified the color of mapping in grid system. Within the same area, materials have similarity and coherent caused from the same usage, building size and land value. Pixels could also show the modularity and transformation of node to node. High density area would be more wooden and rusty because of the material has long period of used and being attracted to the canal where in the old day people start to settle along the water as main transportation. Pixel growth year by year according to the new platform of transport (Fig.3), the bigger size pixel represent the big mass of concrete used to construct vertical building. But even time changed, the inner core buildings (compact living) are still the same. Only people leave from the old house.
After 16 years, it seems like to grow rapidly along BTS area. Tall buildings become barrier bounded the old town which cannot build high due to the law of build around temples, resulting in why there’s not much changed around temples. Second research of pixel is to use eyedropper tool pick particular color which means specific materials (Fig.4), depicting that gray tone (concrete, shades, shadows are widely spread in the city integrated with greenery (plants). The brown colors (wood, rust) are dense in the old area and some vivid color of new painting inserted. The growth will be continued and pixel will never be still, raising the question of how to plan the city in proper direction distinctive to Bangkok, Thailand.

In 2015, there’s the issue of Chaopraya to be constructed the path along the river and people start to have the argument if it’s proper or not. The government’s trying to develop the riverside to be accessible for everyone. We have the topic separate in 2 ways, first is build it and see if there’s pros and cons as well as leave the place the same. Through out the discussion, there were both agreement and disagreement, people who’s not argue that these things might interrupt the existing culture which characteristics is specific to the place, but who’s say yes were talking about the universal access for every one and it’s going to create the new landmark places where people leave the congestion from the city to the riverfront. Finally, there’s no conclusion of both way, but as we do the project which we have to visit the site and interview both side of the arguments let us understand deep to the people mind. The thing is to show both way of possibility and let the discussion open to give feedback on the results. The proposition comes from in between, which is to build some open area which the city already have and connected to on ground culture to expand the economical sustainability and let locality, government and others being participated. Not to do all along the river but where there’s allow from decision from people of both side, then should be a great opportunity to have a public river front without commercial purpose.
