Edexcel International Primary Curriculum Giving young pupils the best possible foundation for a world-class education

What is the Edexcel International Primary Curriculum? The Edexcel International Primary Curriculum has been designed for pupils in Years 3 to 6 (ages 8-11) in international schools. It is based on the UK National Curriculum ‘Key Stage 2’ and provides and easy-to-implement framework for a full, engaging and inspiring curriculum. With a focus on English, Mathematics and Science, the Edexcel International Primary Curriculum gives pupils a wellrounded education, whilst enabling their teachers and parents to easily monitor their progress. Importantly, this curriculum also prepares pupils for life-long learning – whether they progress onto Edexcel qualifications or not.

Why was Edexcel International Primary Curriculum developed? Edexcel has worked with international schools for many years, offering its acclaimed International GCSE and GCE A Level programmes to pupils 14+. We know from talking to our schools that there is a real need for an international curriculum for younger pupils that can prepare them for their studies at secondary level and beyond. The Edexcel International Primary Curriculum thus brings together a framework for the three key subjects - English, Mathematics and Science - to give pupils a head-start in learning well before they start secondary school.

How does Edexcel International Primary Curriculum work? As part of your registration package you will receive: l curriculum framework for Years 3-6 consisting of schemes of work with outline units l set of Year 6 specimen Achievement Tests l 1-day training course for new centres l 60 sample units across English, Mathematics and Science (six detailed sample units per year for both English and

Mathematics, and three detailed units per year for Science). Plus! To help you track your pupils’ progress and gain internationally-recognised certification of their achievement, the Edexcel Primary Curriculum features: l Progress Tests for English, Mathematics and Science for Years 3-5 l Achievement Tests for English, Mathematics and Science at the end of Year 6.

Sample units will consist of a variety of activities, together with links to teaching resources and unit tests and mark schemes. Teachers can use the unit tests to compare pupil performance, identify areas for improvement or as a template for their own assessment design. The Edexcel International Primary Curriculum is designed to be flexible and as such units are not mandatory: they can be taught alongside your centre’s existing content or chosen according to what is most appropriate for your pupils. However, teachers can save valuable time by teaching our units directly from the detailed specifications.

What support materials are available? As part of our support offering, we will provide you with a range of printed and online support materials for English, Mathematics and Science, including Schemes of Work, specifications and mapping documents. Furthermore, you can also gain access to a range of market-leading Pearson resources for pupils and teachers, and the Pearson Test of English.
