Pécora refers to what is not perfect, to what is not standard, to what leaves the group, to what differs, to what makes mistakes, to the non-popular, to what goes unnoticed. It is the wrong key of a typewriter when you type one letter and it is another. Pécora is the foreign, the nomadic, what is built, what remains, the paradox, the background. Pécora is beauty of the one who looks, the bit by bit, words to the ear, the held out hand, collaboration, calm, what does not blind you, what is without being, what belongs to the world without being in it. What lives and does not dwell. It is the difference, what is understood without telling, it is references, healthy contagion, is desire of Deleuze. Pécora is enjoyment, is imagining something else, a button being buttoned in the wrong buttonhole. Pécora is... the “no flock sheep”.
ONCE UPON A TIME IN THE CANARY ISLANDS
The Canary Islands are located in the immense Atlantic Ocean, and on one of these islands, also called fortunate Islands, is Pécora, our 100% handmade design studio. Here we recover the first known non-woven textile, wool felt, which has accompanied the existence of humans throughout history and has been incorporated to our daily lives in a peculiar and singular way. Pécora feeds on the exuberant and desert nature, on the steep cliffs and gentle slopes, on the immensity of the sea and the rugged ravines, on being at the crossroads of three continents and on the small territory where it dwells, on what comes from outside and on what “gestates” here, inside the island... sensations that we would like to take inside homes. We pursue beauty, innovation, functionality and delight in its simple naturalness.
Pécora combines tradition, modernity and delicacy. Its essence is to bring beauty to our lives through the simple everyday routines.

PAST, PRESENT, FELT
All theories agree that the origin of wool felt is casual and dates from the early Bronze Age, more than 3,500 years ago. It’s claimed that the wool primitive men used as clothing and footwear, which was made of sheep’s fleece, turned into a kind of compact cloth after sometime of being worn, due to the the friction and humidity from the body, hence producing the first not textile man-made fabric: wool felt. One of the many characteristics of wool felt is the natural tendency of its fibres to get tangled under the joint action of heat, moisture, pressure and repeated beating. This cohesiveness is therefore not carried out by bonding agents or adhesives, nor by any binding or tissue.
At Pécora we keep the same principles for producing wool felt and our products are totally hand-made, obtaining pieces of design for interior decoration which are 100% handmade.
HANDMADE, A PÉCORA
Wool coated soap is our emblematic product. It is a cold-pressed handmade soap made with coconut oil and olive oil, coated with wool felt that has been treated with natural dyes, which turns the soap into a slightly exfoliating “soapsponge”. A Pécora gives a highly sensorial experience: it seduces through sight, by its striking or delicate designs, through touch by massaging the skin, and through smell with its aroma. In addition, olive oil attracts moisture and creates a film on the skin that protects against environmental agents, it hydrates, nourishes and provides softness. All Pécora’s lines of design have their own character. Six different lines of original, unexpected and suggestive designs that please and entertain because of their unique personality.

THE POWER OF WOOL
PĂŠcora products are made using the ancient technique for making wool felt, which only uses water, soap, friction and the heat it produces. What we commonly call felt, is sometimes made with other synthetic fibers, so we call wool felt only the textile that is made with 100% out of wool. Wool has unique properties: fineness, curl, length, elasticity, scaly surface and the ability to swell, which makes it exceptional for the manufacturing of felt fabric. Wool is an elastic material, it is fireproof and resilient (ability to recover its initial state).
We use wool in fleece or in band, produced and dyed according to the Öko-Tex-Standard 100 and from different kinds of sheep: Merino, Kap, Bergschaf, Gotland, Austral Merino, etc. We also use other fibers such as silk, hemp or linen. Wool also has the quality of being antibacterial, that is, it is not vulnerable to undesirable fungi or odors when in contact with moisture. Throughout the period of use, Pécora soap retains the soft fragrance of the soap, as well as the healthy touch of the wool.
It does not slip so it is easy to handle. The wool coating makes the soap last longer and prevents it from leaving that slippery coat of residue on the surface where it’s placed. With use, the wool gets more and more compact, shrinking and adapting to the size of the tablet of soap. In the end, we are left with a small hollow piece of wool to which we can give many other uses. The wool design stimulates the imagination and invites children to be autonomous and to see as natural and fun the moment of the bath. Pécora soap is a biodegradable product.
ISORA DÍAZ
Pioneer in product design made with wool and innovative in the use of this primitive material, Isora Díaz has founded the craft design firm Pécora, which is committed to the renewal of handmade work. Licensed in Fine Arts, and artist at heart, she seeks the way of contributing to beauty through the design and creation of objects thought to be felt. Her roaming through different countries and her homeland, the Canary Islands, which is known for a character prone to welcome and host other cultures, lead her to an aesthetic quest filled with subtlety, sophistication and simplicity.
