Peddada Rugs

Peddada rugs: Islands of comfort and distinction.

Introducing five new rugs in the expanded TEX-MIX Collection

Our new expanded TEX-MIX collection is an innovative combination of ancient and modern weaving skills that bring to life unique designs never attempted in rug making before. It is also a mixture of different crafting processes that yield an unusual collage of textures. More than anything, it is a visual odyssey on textures inspired in part by observing my son draw and driving through urban areas to study textures of character and age. This collaboration with my son and observing him sketch was a priceless organic and elemental visual therapy. I also had the extreme pleasure of culling through hundreds of his precocious visions on paper for the four rugs he has in the TEX-MIX collection. The TEX-MIX collection is offered as an esoteric alchemy of natural mature and muted colors of ZEN with feisty geometry and kinetic energy of a child’s world. This dichotomy of mature colors and energetic innocence has resulted in a visual treat of textures for even the most discriminating design savant.

“Beauty is an incommumicable dynamic event between you the observer and that which is observed” -Raju Peddada

Materials: Peddada rugs are handcrafted with the finest wools, silks and exotic fibers available. Wools from Nepal, Tibet and New Zealand and silks from China and India are used to knot and tuft the exquisite Peddada designs. Interior Designers and Architects have extensive options in selecting the materials for their specific projects. Custom specific wool and silk combinations for rugs are available in the following ways only in hand knot process. • 100% Wool from New Zealand or Tibet or Nepal or India. • 100% Chinese or Indian silk. • 50% Wool and 50% Silk • 70% Wool and 30% Silk • 70% Silk and 30% Wool Peddada colors bring nature back into designed spaces. The designer’s selection of Serene and mature colors from nature’s palate were extremely hard to recreate, therefore, Swiss dyes and natural herbal/vegetable dyes are creatively combined by our dying masters to create this unique color spectrum. Many colors had to be created from scratch.

Processes: Peddada rugs are made with the thickest piles of wool and silk surpassing industry standards. Keeping wear factors and character in focus, Peddada rugs are created with 5/8” wool/silk pile heights depending on the design. Varying pile heights are cut or carved based on design specifics. What is normal wool/silk pile height for Peddada is extraordinary for the industry. All Peddada rugs are hand-tufted or hand-knotted to the highest standards depending on the materials used. Interior Designers and Architects have the option of going to broadloom process for speedy deliveries for large custom specific institutional projects. Project specifics will usually dictate what manufacturing process is conducive to meet delivery timelines. Whatever the process, Peddada guarantees quality, design integrity, delivery and service to meet the most demanding scenarios.

Peddada Boutique Looms for Professionals Peddada Rugs are passionately handcrafted under the distinct limited quantity Boutique Loom Program. We custom create and make highly individualized or personal project centric designs for the discerning Architects, Interior Designers, and individuals -- who are driven to bring life to a room, or their whole house or environment. We do not serve retail, nor do we manufacture for wholesale. We are small, deliberately small, so we can meet with you and listen, we then intuit and design, translating your desire and requirements. Then, we invest our energies in rendering each and every rug as a masterpiece of design and craftsmanship for you. Rugs that offer comfort, but, become and remain statements in your environments. If you are an Architect, professional designer or a creative individual with an idea for a rug, we are the destination for realizing it. If you don’t have a design, we can interpret your project vernacular or nomencalture into a fantastically telepathic and resonant design that can be customized materially in a myriad ways -- in shapes, sizes, and textures, with every type of fiber available under the sun. We may be exotic and exclusive, yet, we are accessible in our pricing.

Transcend conventional ways of looking and thinking about materials and existence.

In life and art, we are always in search of some rare and elusive qualities that make our experience special. These qualities intrinsically and mysteriously are manifest in a child’s work and play. Piccasso is known to have said “I drew like Raphael before I was sixteen and spent the rest of my life trying to draw like children.” What Picasso meant was that it was quite daunting for him and for that matter any trained artist to capture a child’s spontaneity, immediacy, innocence and vitality in art or play. This innocence and energy can only be transmitted from mind to mind and not through the written or the spoken word. In many ways it is parallel to the aesthetic ideology of Zen and Wabi-Sabi with its vigorous anti-rationalism.

Due to the phenomenal interest and requests for the three-and a half year old Raju Peddada IV’s designs, we are expanding our offerings in the Tex-Mix collection with five (5) new rugs that offer an intense color palette with a child’s energy.

Rugmark Assurance All Peddada carpets are RUGMARK certified. By agreeing to adhere to RUGMARK’s strict no child labor guidelines, and by permitting random inspections of carpet looms, Peddada receives the right to put the RUGMARK label on their carpets. The label provides the best possible assurance that children were not employed in the making of a rug. It also verifies that a portion of the carpet price is contributed to the rehabilitation and education of former child weavers.

We are stimulated and propelled in life by our sensory experiences through visual and tactile textures… Our memories record textures of places where we live and visit. “In the realm of aesthetics, reason is always subordinate to perception; and perception of cultural textures, ancient and contemporary, with their diversity is a desirable state of affairs, especially in opposition to the accelerating trend toward the uniform digitalization of all sensory experiences.”

The colors, the dark window with the frame surrounded by a bright orange with a few brush strokes of white paint made an arresting composition that captured the essence of a Chicago summer.
