Pioneers planting Most pioneers needed there gardens to survive but it was hard to handle the whole garden on your own so the women do planting and gardening. The garden is usually only a few steps away from the house. The pioneers started gardening around spring to get food growing when winter comes the pioneers start storing food in the underground seller to keep all the food in the winter. The pioneers needed the garden to grow food to supply the family including all the cattle and cow. Most of the time they needed to feed the horses the children also helped with gardening gardening was a very important thing for the pioneers because they needed food to supply for the family and animals.

The homestead act The pioneers definitely needed somewhere to live once they got to Oregon. The homestead act is giving free land to new pioneers. The homestead was usually a few hundred acres of land. You might think they could just go to the homestead and unpack in a nice warm house but thats not how it works. The pioneers would have to sleep in the wagon if there was room. They had to build there own house on the homestead. You might think the children got to play all day but they had to help there parents get the house built. The children had to collect oils to help make windows or collect wood. The pioneers needed to build on there homestead to live. Nowadays houses are really high tech and are a lot sturdier than back then for example we have two stories and TV's and they had probably a one story house or just a wagon and definitely no TV's.

Pioneers jobs The men and women had different jobs the woman did baking cleaning gardening and they usually took care of the children the men did chopping wood if they could find trees to get wood they fixed things my opinion is it may have been really hard to live in those times we have less jobs then they did. The women had to bake or cook so they could eat healthy food and not eat raw meat. They had to clean or they would get sick or dirty and they couldn't take baths very much. They needed to garden for fruits and vegetables. And they couldn't leave the children unattended incase something happened. The men had to get wood and chop wood if they could find trees so they could make a fire if it got really cold at night. The men also needed to fix thing if they got broken so if it was important they had to fix it because usually they could not afford much. There jobs where really important if they did not do them it would not be very good.
