Tell us about Carol Yates Design This is the new brand from established interior designer Carol Yates, who has had a successful design presence in Scotland for more than 25 years. She and her team are looking forward to continuing to work with existing clients as well as welcoming new customers to the business. What’s unique about the company? As a designer with a vast wealth of experience and knowledge, Carol Yates strives to provide clients with a personal service that is bespoke to them and their individual needs. We have a vast library of resources to suit all styles, including design-led furniture, lighting, accessories, wallcoverings and fabrics. Who are your customers? We have both private and corporate customers. Our areas of expertise are in private residential design and project management, and we also offer turnkey packages for private clients. For our corporate customers, we provide showhome design for housebuilders and developers, and we have also worked on smaller commercial ventures in the restaurant and hotel sector. What are your plans for the future? We will be launching an exciting new website in 2017 called Decorina Home to allow people to purchase online some of the beautiful interiors accessories we

Tell us about you Designworks is a family business, established more than 30 years ago, with two generations now involved. We are a well-known professional interior design and architectural practice, with a large showroom and offices in Glasgow’s west end. What’s unique about Designworks? Our showroom on the ground floor of our practice in Gibson Street offers all elements of interior finishes – fabrics, wallcoverings, furniture, lighting and accessories – with professional advice available to customers from the designers if required. Designworks also provides a bespoke and personal interior design service working in conjunction with our own architectural practice to create imaginative and inspiring projects (mainly residential) throughout the UK and abroad to suit our clients’ needs and budget. Who are your customers? Our customers range from those browsing for home accessories in the showroom, which is open six days a week, to private clients requiring a variety of services from small interior design projects to larger family homes. As we are passionate about what we do, we benefit from a good deal of repeat business as many of our clients return time and time again. What are your plans for the future? Our plans are to continue to offer an exceptional design service and to develop a more sustainable approach to interior design and architecture. We

also want to explore new technologies to produce a premium service for our clients well into the future. Success is… Delivering a project on time and within budget to satisfied clients whose expectations have been exceeded. What has been your biggest challenge so far? Being involved in Scotland’s Millennium Project to restore the interior finishes of the Great Hall at Stirling Castle, sourcing, selecting and making the 9m-high feature curtains. The decorative trimmings alone weighed approximately half a ton! What has been your biggest challenge so far? There have been many! Tell us about Gideon Robinson We are a family-run design-led business, based in the south side of Glasgow, specialising in kitchens and bedrooms, along with fitted and freestanding furniture for other rooms within the home. Working with select partners, we offer the best in German and Italian design, fully supported by an installation and interior design service as required. What’s unique about the company? We think about the way your space is to be used, rather than about how to fill the space. As well as supplying fitted furnishings, we can provide complementary furniture and finishes to help complete your project. Our 5,000 sq.ft studio in Pollokshields is carefully laid out to give a flavour of how we think and to provide inspiration. Lastly, we’re accessible: we’re involved in the business day to day, and get to know our clients. Who are your customers? Our range of products allows us to reach out to a broad spectrum of clients. We have child-proof furniture that appeals to couples buying their first home, through to a more luxury finish for those who want that statement kitchen. Most of our clients tend to be remodelling existing spaces or extending their homes, but all of them appreciate good design that functions well. What are your plans for the future? We are excited about the future: there is a growth in home connectivity, and as products and innovation catch up with concept, we have plans to develop our studio to offer a more connected experience. Starting

in early 2017, new appliances from Siemens are being integrated into the studio with full Wi-Fi connectivity. Success is... Success is listening to and understanding each client’s requirements, allowing us to guide them with our knowledge and experience so that we can deliver a great product supported by a first-class service. Finally, if we have a happy client who feels they have had value and a great experience, we have been successful – and so has our customer. What has been your biggest challenge? Our biggest challenge has been our rapid growth – we are now one of the UK’s largest independent kitchen specialists. This has resulted in a need for new systems and procedures to be implemented, along with investment in specialist software and training to support our growth and allow us to continue providing a high level of service. What has been your biggest challenge? The uncertainty caused by Brexit is quite a challenge, as we deal exclusively with Germany for our kitchens. Tell us about Millers and Cameron Bell It’s a family business that has been in the flooring trade since 1893, when our great-grandfather opened his first retail premises. After all these years, we are still fiercely passionate about what we do, looking after customers in Edinburgh and now in Glasgow since adding Cameron Bell Flooring in the west end. What’s unique about the company? Many of our customers say working with us is like visiting an old friend in their front room! Thanks to the relationships we have built with ‘unusual and quirky’ suppliers, we are able to offer many exclusive ranges that can’t be found anywhere else. It is a standing joke in our family (but quite true!) that one of us gets up early every day to research new and exciting flooring products on the internet. This dedication to finding new opportunities, coupled with our installation expertise and deep product knowledge, bring customers back year after year. Who are your customers? They are discerning individuals who we love to engage with. Our customers want to put their trust in a company that understands the importance of both design and the technical aspects of their job. We want to continue to seek out and find the interesting, the unusual and the downright fabulous. We have recently extended this ethos, in the Glasgow showroom, by adding rugs to our portfolio. This has been incredibly successful so far, with many of our customers describing acquiring these beautiful pieces as being like buying a piece of art for their floor. Success is... Seeing the finished article and seeing how these floors are used by the families who live in these beautiful houses. It is incredible how your environment affects the way you feel – and this includes what you walk on. We’ll never forget one young member of the family describing her bedroom carpet as ‘scratchy and cold’ – and the delight on her face when we fitted a lovely ‘warm and cuddly’ plush pile in its place! What has been your biggest challenge? Reinvigorating a trusted established business in the west end of Glasgow, building a showroom for interior designers in the east end and opening a rug showroom, all within an 18-month period, has been a lot of work. Being a family and supporting each other throughout kept us all sane (just!) and reminded us why it was worth it – we love what we do! The Millers/Cameron Bell mantra is... Tell us about you We’re an independent Scottish company with our roots firmly placed in traditional hand-built cabinetmaking since our inception 27 years ago. In the last decade we’ve entered into a more contemporary market, applying the same hand-crafted techniques to our bespoke cabinetry to achieve a unique fusion of clean-lined artisan furniture. What’s unique about Murray & Murray? We are manufacturers as well as designers and installers. That means every detail is up for discussion, as all of our cabinetry is made entirely to order in our Fife workshop. We represent the very truest sense of the term ‘bespoke’. Who are your customers? Our clientele and their unique lifestyles are as broad and varied as our design aesthetic. One common thread that binds them all is how discerning they are. Regardless of age, style or house type, each one of our clients expects creativity in design, quality of product and coherent synchronised project management. What are your plans for the future? We are currently undergoing something of an expansion. The relocation of our showroom from our head office in Glenrothes will create more space for our expanding workshop, housing new state-ofthe-art spray-painting facilities. Meanwhile, our new showroom, a converted joiner’s shop in Forteviot, will give us the opportunity to present our cabinetry in a magnificent country setting while joining forces with Strathearn Stone & Timber to create an exciting interiors destination in the heart of rural Perthshire. Success is… Expanding an independent Scottish manufacturing business on the back of a global economic recession is testament to our hard work and passion for what we do. It also says a lot about the quality of

our craftsmanship and our dedication to excellent customer experience. These are the values we stand for and are what have seen us thrive over recent years. What has been your biggest challenge so far? The importance of adapting with the times and keeping ahead of the curve is always at the forefront of our vision. In order to not only survive but thrive over the past three decades requires a fluid response to the changing times we live in, not just economically but aesthetically and stylistically. Achieving this while staying true to our values is and always will be the greatest challenge we face. The Murray & Murray mantra is… “If we can design it, we can make it” is a common one among our designers (but not one that is always popular in our workshop!).

Tell us about Pieve Interiors Pieve interiors is an award-winning family-owned business specialising in kitchens, bathrooms and bedrooms. We offer German Schüller kitchens, bespoke hand-painted kitchens from Hepworth & Wood, luxury fitted bedroom furniture and custom bathroom furniture and fittings. With over 20 years’ experience in the industry, we have the knowledge to make your dream project a reality. We offer a complete turnkey service, from design to job completion, with every detail planned, managed and delivered to give you your perfect home. We were BKU kitchen showroom of the year 2015 and BKU highly commended bathroom showroom 2015. What’s unique about the company? Pieve Interiors is based on design and innovation, but above all on customer satisfaction. We pride ourselves on designing and installing the perfect interiors, whether it is a simple design or a customised one-off room. We specialise in the unique, so when we are asked for something to set a room apart, we know how to achieve it. Who are your customers? We have a wide and varied client base. We have tackled everything from simple bathroom renovations all the way through to complete home renovations. We like to work with clients who want to push the boundaries of what can be done. We feel nothing is impossible – the fun and the challenge are what make projects enjoyable. But we also enjoy more straightforward projects as we understand that simple and elegant can be just as impressive. We are well aware that not everyone who comes to us has a clear idea of what they want. We are happy to show them a variety of different options, even if it’s just to rule these out. This is all part of the process for us and we regard it as part of the fun of starting a new project. We will take clients through all aspects of their project and break everything down so they can see exactly how their home will be remodelled.

What are your plans for the future? We have recently purchased the unit next door to our showroom and will be expanding into it early in the new year to give us more space for bathroom and bedroom displays. Although we are always growing, we like to keep tight control on all of our projects, so can always be hands-on and proactive in our work. Success is… A byproduct of our working ethos. We believe in doing our work to the highest possible standard using quality products, most of which are bespoke, so we can give our customers a truly one-off experience. We aim to keep costs reasonable, as most of our projects are part of larger renovations and we understand our customers’ constraints in this. Thus, due to our level of detail, our appreciation of value for money and our project-management skills, our reputation grows along with our success. What has been your biggest challenge? Tackling a full kitchen and sunroom renovation in a property on the east coast. The project had challenges involving the specification from the customer, the bespoke nature of the works, access and logistics. Our careful planning and detailed map of how the works would proceed gave the customer confidence that the right people were in charge of the project.
