Crafting a brighter future for Scots beer Keith Brewery will expand its range of craft beers in the UK – and is also on track to achieve record turnover

EITH Brewery Ltd kicked off 2017 in style when social media giant, The Lad Bible, got hold of the brewery’s market leading export product – Snake Venom by Brewmeister Beers. What happened next has blown the team away. After posting a video on its popular page, which has over 21 million likes, on January 13 The Lad Bible’s post of the infamous beer quickly went viral, reaching millions around the world; the video has now been watched 16.2m times, shared by over 160k people, liked by 80k and 184k people have commented. If that wasn’t enough, since the video went viral, the team has received over 3000 direct sales enquiries about Snake Venom and one of Keith Brewery’s soonto-be live online retailers has already dealt with over 35,000 enquiries. Of the 3000

brewery enquiries, one third originated from USA, one third came from panEuropean countries (including the UK) and the rest came from other high growth markets across the globe. The team in Keith, Moray, had no idea about the video until it appeared on The Lad Bible – it was hard to miss it! However, they have embraced the reaction and, in turn, accelerated its online and direct sales offering to meet the incredible demand whilst also employing the services of a PR agency to help maximise potential from this success. As a result, the company is to launch Snake Venom in the UK on specialist drinks websites, where sales of the strong beer can be supervised; every individual bottle purchased will also include an official document, advising the consumer to drink

the product in moderation. The online release of Snake Venom will complement the current range of beers that was launched under the Keith Brewery Ltd. brand at the start of 2016, and is the next step for a company that is on track for a record year of turnover. “However, it is extremely important that we do not rest on our laurels,” said chief operating officer Andrew Chapman. “The success of Snake Venom in various Asian markets has been paramount to our growth over the past 24 months and it is important that we continue to develop and grow our brand in other overseas markets. However, the launch of Snake Venom in the UK through e-commerce, allows us to operate in a type of industry that, up until recently, we had very limited presence in.”

Sebastian Collins of the Soho Theatre Bar cited this as one of his favourite product features. “The Backoffice is so easy to use,

everything can be traced, everything can be tracked,” he said. “I can go through at any point and find an anomaly and it’s really easy for me to trace that, so it keeps my accounts much more precise. For each of the shows we have different audiences; different audiences prefer different types of drinks, so it just means that when we know another show is coming up which is similar, we can make sure that these drinks and these services are available for those shows.” The already large and constantly increasing number of businesses of all sizes, in hospitality and retail, adopting intelligentpos is testimony to the importance of the EPOS solution and reporting tool. Sky Sports knocks summer for six Broadcaster gearing up for raft of major live sporting events

HE summer ahead is shaping up to be a bumper few months of live sport on Sky Sports and pubs can look forward to driving trade with six key events that will attract customers into bars up and down the country.

Football goes global In June, pub-goers will be heading to their local to support the home nations as the World Cup qualifiers continue. With Scotland hosting England at Hampden Park, passions are sure to be ignited and viewers will look to soak up the atmosphere with like-minded fans in pubs and bars. And with England still finding their feet under new manager Gareth Southgate, Scotland will be hoping to overturn the defeat of their previous meeting with a home victory.

With Scotland hosting England at Hampden, passions are sure to be ignited. There’s also action from Wales, the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland, giving landlords lots of opportunities to get creative around themed British and Irish food and drink offers.

The Lion’s share of Rugby Union action

The Silverstone spectacle The world’s best Formula One drivers will race on British soil on July 16th and Sky Sports will be trackside to capture all the action, including the practice sessions, across the entire weekend. Motor racing fans will be eager to see if Lewis Hamilton can repeat his victory of 2016 to take a record fifth British Grand Prix title in front of his home crowd and will be fascinated to see how the championship is shaping up in the absence of reigning champion Nico Rosberg. The weekend will provide the chance for landlords to keep F1 fans in venues for longer as the famous British race unfolds.

The Rugby Union race for PRO12 glory The PRO12 competition will reach its conclusion at the end of May and rugby union fans will be eager to see who can qualify for the European Champions Cup as a result. The Edinburgh Rugby team and Glasgow Warriors will be battling it out against the other teams in the competition to reach the top and venues can look forward to enticing rugby fans into their bars with all the action, live on Sky Sports.

A hole in one with The Open The Open takes place at Royal Birkdale this year where players like Rory McIlory, Henrik Stenson and Phil Mikelson will all vie for the famous British golf title. In 2016 day one and two of the Open Championship, broadcast for the first time on Sky Sports, each attracted over half a million viewers out of home so there is a clear opportunity for licensees to draw golf fans in to their venues. With four days of coverage to enjoy, from the opening tee shot to the final putt, it should be a fascinating competition to watch.

Taking place in Blackpool from July 22 to 30, the World Matchplay Darts will see the world’s top players take each other on to see who can take the title. Pub-goers can look forward to afternoon and evening sessions across nine days, watching the likes of reigning champion Michael van Gerwen, Phil Taylor, Adrian Lewis and Raymond van Barneveld up at the oche.

ICENSING in 2017 is set for a shake up with the local government elections in May resulting in the appointment of all new licensing boards shortly after.
