From the Desk of the Secretary of the Board of Directors You May Be Wondering…
As one of the seven elected Directors of the Mountain Lodge HOA I am responsible for several committees that, behind the scenes, do a lot of work on the behalf of our community. These committees are chaired by volunteers who neither get paid nor receive much praise for the hours they spend to help make Mountain Lodge a better place to live. Realize too that they do not do all of this work by themselves. Each committee, particularly the Social & Pool committees sometimes require dozens of additional helpers to get the work done for a specific event. There is never enough help. I would like to take this opportunity to let you know about some of the things that my committees and I have been involved in this last year since I was first elected to the Board. Social Committee – Michelle Rosener & Lisa Meylor
Last year - Halloween Party w/ Haunted House & Pancakes with Santa This year - Easter Egg Hunt, Community Garage Sale, Summer Luau & Movie Night Soon to be announced – Fall Garage Sale, Halloween event, Christmas event The Social Committee is also organizing various smaller activities having a specific theme that will appeal to smaller groups of people such as a yoga group and a walking club. One idea they are looking at for the future is a Farmers Market that will offer fresh meat and produce. A new service the Social Committee is providing is a “Teen Helper List” where teens can sign up to provide babysitting, yard mowing, watering, dog walking or a variety of other services. There are currently more than 30 neighborhood kids signed up. Pool & Playground Committee – Brooke Miller (also swim team manager)
Manta Ray Swim Team – This is a huge activity lasting aproximately 2 months and involving over 170 kids in Mountain Lodge. We also host 2 meets with other community teams in the San Antonio area. The pools & playgrounds have seen many changes this year. Here are a few, but not all, of the improvements we have made. • doubled number of swim days and tripled total hours the pools are open • power washed all facilities including restrooms, trash cans, pavilion floor & furniture • changed pool management company (more emphasis on keeping restrooms clean) • increased fenced area & installed 2 park benches at Misty Peak playground We have also made many repairs to pool & playground equipment, electrical (lighting & power) and plumbing facilities that have been neglected over the years. Around early September the installation of the new sun shades to cover the kiddie pools at both Seven Winds and Misty Peak should be close to complete. Some of the things we are discussing for the future include new mulch beds at both playgrounds, additional lighting at deep end of Seven Winds pool, additional playground equipment, resurfacing of Seven Winds pool and changing the key entry system at both pools to an electronic swipe card system. Communication Committee –
This committee’s task is to provide you, the residents of Mountain Lodge, information concerning our community. Dave Lawrence – Newsletter
The newsletter is published free of charge to the HOA as long as the publisher can find advertisers. We could include much more information & articles if there were more ads to support (Continued on Page 3)
