TEXAS NATIONAL NIGHT OUT By Jessica Stempko

Tuesday October, 4th 6:00 to 8:30pm, Brightwater Park The Neighborhood Watch Committee would like to invite you to join residents to raise awareness of fighting crime in our neighborhood. Come meet and greet your neighbors in Brightwater Park so that we can build the bonds that help keep us all safe. We’ll serve bbq and vegetarian food starting at 6:15. We’ll have moonwalks for the kids and enjoy music throughout the evening. Hopefully we can: Heighten crime prevention awareness; Generate support for, and participation in, local anti-crime programs; Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships; and Send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back. Seating is limited so you may want to bring lawn chairs and blankets.

WELCOME FALL! At long last we are finally welcoming fall and cooler weather. Sadly, we will be coping with the drought of 2011 for years to come. Our hearts go out to all of the victims of the worst wildfires in the history of Texas. During the last legislative session new laws were passed that affect HOA’s. Many new provisions in various statutes, including the Property Code, affect the management of associations, and many required action to be taken by the directors. Director Vicky Lockwood and I attended a seminar on the new legislation on August 29th. The Stone Canyon Board has joined with our lawyer and management company to make sure we are in compliance. All of the laws passed supersede any of our CCR’s that may be in conflict. Some of the legislation covers religious displays on doors, transfer fees, flags and flagpoles, solar devices/roofing, rainwater harvesting systems, recordation of governing documents, board meetings, online posting of documents, elections and voting. Our lawyer created resolutions to make sure we are in compliance. The Board has reviewed, signed and filed the resolutions with the county. As soon as they are recorded, we will post on our website. The Board and ACC Committee will continue to work with our management company and lawyer to study the new legislation and may re-draft the resolutions as needed. For now, we have met the requirements that the law mandates. If you are not currently a user of our website, I’d like to encourage all of our residents to sign into our website and request a username and password. You can find us at: www.stonecanyonoa.org. We do not sell or distribute our list of users. Texas Property Code 209.0052(f) now requires residents to register their email address with the Association and to keep it updated. New laws now allow associations to send notices of meetings via email and to post on our website. This is the quickest way for the association to contact residents with information. If we can get residents to register and keep emails current, we can communicate efficiently and reduce costs to the association. I don’t expect this to happen overnight, and we will continue to mail annual meeting packets. I hope you are enjoying the cooler weather and have a safe fall. Jessica Stempko - President, SCOA Board
