Neighborhood Reminders & Updates
NOTICE: WATER SUPPLY CHANGES
On October 3, 2011, Lakemont began a new process of water disinfection that uses chloramines rather than chlorine as the disinfectant in the water supply. This new process is required in connection with Lakemont’s upcoming conversion from groundwater to surface water to comply with mandates from the Harris Galveston Coastal Subsidence District to reduce groundwater pumpage. You should have received a notice from your district explaining this process and how it will affect water customers, including kidney dialysis patients and fish owners. If you did not receive this notice, please contact the district’s operator, Southwest Water, at (713) 405-1750 to request a copy of the notice. A FEW REMINDERS FROM THE DEED RESTRICTIONS CHAIRMAN
1. Holiday decorations are permitted and will not require approval. Decorations may be installed no sooner than 30 days prior to the holiday and must be removed within 15 days after the holiday for which they are intended. 2. Please do not place signs of any nature on the grounds here in Lakemont or on mailboxes. These are an eyesore and are very unattractive in the neighborhood. Any signs other than Lakemont approved
signs will be removed and discarded. 3. Lakemont has 2 garage sales per year and those are the only ones allowed. Individual garage sales or “moving sales” are not allowed and signs promoting such will be picked up and discarded. PET OWNERS: A FRIENDLY REMINDER
This is a friendly reminder to pet owners to keep dogs on a leash and out of the lakes around Lakemont. Not all homeowners are comfortable with loose dogs or cats so please be courteous to your neighbors and follow the leash law. Also, be sure that you are picking up after your pets in the common areas; this should be made easier with our newly installed pet waste stations around the community. REMINDER:TRASH PICK-UP Trash collection is on Mondays and Thursdays. Garbage shall be kept in sanitary refuse containers with tightly fitting lids and should be out by 7:00am. After trash pick-up occurs, please move your garbage cans out of public view as quickly as possible. For heavy trash pick-up please call Royal Disposal to schedule. If you should have any further questions, contact Royal Disposal directly at 713-526-1536 or via their website www. royaldisposal.com.

Lakemont Living Neighborhood Reminders (Continued from Cover Page) SECURITY UPDATE Dear Lakemont Residents! Can you believe it’s that time again? Where has the year gone? Before we know it, we will be ringing in the New Year! The buzz is in the air and some residents are already getting excited about the holiday season. On that note, we encourage all residents to be observant during the holiday season. If you see someone suspicious, or something out of the ordinary, please call the FBC Sheriff’s Department @ 281341-4665 immediately. A patrol unit is usually in our area and can respond quite rapidly. See below for some helpful tips on keeping your home and your street well lit. We wish you all a safe and joyous holiday season! CK - Neighborhood Watch Chair WELCOME COMITTEE Hi, my name is Leslye. I have volunteered as the Welcome Committee chair for over 3-years. I have lived in Lakemont since 2003. I love my home in the small cul-de-sac and having good neighbors during the 8-years I’ve lived here. I see Lakemont as a welcoming, neat community with beautiful outdoors, landscaping and community events. I have met many homeowners but have not met you all. I look forward to meeting you at our next community event. 2011 POOL SEASON Hope everyone enjoyed their summer and the Lakemont pools. I would like to thank Jeff Seabolt from Aquatico Pool Management, Inc. for taking such great care of our pools. If you have any suggestions or comments about the pools please email me at lakemontpool@hotmail.com. See you next summer!! Pool Chair – Diane SECURITY LIGHTING DID YOU KNOW?
Burglary is a crime of opportunity. Areas of heavy darkness and shadow provide a welcome mat to thieves and vandals. Street lighting throughout the neighborhood and especially on dark corners and zones of “getaway” make it easier for alert residents to report suspicious activity they see. Lighting at entry points and areas near the main road also deter criminals from “staging” themselves there for an operation. Please be aware of the street lights on your block and if they are not adequately lighting your street, please notify us. Accent lighting for landscape and architectural highlighting is often enough to make homes safer. Be sure that you have a 100 foot zone of visibility around your home that’s bright enough to identify faces and colors. Entry points and walkways are especially important to keep well lit. Install motion sensor-activated lights on entry porches or any access areas to your property. Not only will it discourage burglars, it also makes it easier for you to get into your home late at night. Copyright © 2011 Peel, Inc.

Lakemont Living The Green Corner by J. Miller
LANDSCAPE TIPS - FALL MULCHING One of homeowners and landscapers biggest misnomers is if some mulch is good then even more is better. This is actually incorrect, especially when it comes to trees. It may not be commonly known, but piling mulch on the trunks only leads to unhealthy trees and eventually death. For the proper way to mulch existing trees or plant new ones see the diagram below. Take note of the following items in the diagram when mulching existing trees: (1) Keep the mulch away from trunk of the tree. You should see the root flair of the tree. The root flair is where the trunk expands as it intersects the ground. (2) Make sure you have a established soil ring. (3) Provide 3" depth of mulch. Lastly if your trees have been in a year or more it is time to remove your tree stakes.
