Copperfield Women’s Club

Women Serving the Community

Submitted by Rosie Serrano-Garcia The women’s club closed the year with a wonderful Holiday Party at Tapas Capriccio. We celebrated with our friends and are ready to start the new year as “The Cy-Fair Women’s Club.” Our first meeting in 2012 will be on January 5th at the West Houston Church of Christ at 7:00pm. Start the new year on the right track and come join us. Make a difference in the community, while developing friendships for a lifetime. CWC is a service organization that gives back to the community, so all funds raised will go right back to the community in scholarships for graduating high school seniors, at Lone Star College, Cy-Fair and grants to other non-profits in our community, as well. Membership in the CWC is open to all ladies in Northwest Houston/Cypress neighborhoods. Currently we meet the first Thursday of most months at West Houston Church of Christ at 7:00p.m. for social time and refreshments, followed by a program at 7:30p.m. The church is located at the corner of Queenston and West Road. Our monthly meetings are not only educational and enjoyable, but they develop lasting fellowships. We look forward to meeting you in the new year! If you have any questions about our club or need directions to the church, please contact Susan McLeroy, Membership Chair at sudomac@ comcast.net. Closing the year as “The Copperfield Women’s Club”, we wish everyone, Happy Holidays and a very prosperous New Year!

For several years now we’ve had to endure the sight of 18 wheelers parked on both sides of Sonnet Glen Lane, a residential street. It is located one block east of Queenston on the north side of FM529 and runs from Advanced Auto Parts into the Sommerall subdivision, just on the outskirts of Copperfield. On October 6, 2011, the Copperfield Coalition met with Captain Glesmann, Lieutenant Reeves, and Sgt. Breaux of the Harris County Sheriff’s department. One of the topics that we discussed at this meeting was the parking of 18 wheelers on Sonnet Glen Lane. They discovered that Commissioner Radack had indeed placed a sign indicating no parking of commercial trucks on all entrances between Barker Cypress and SH6 on the north side of FM529. After investigating the situation, Sgt. Breaux developed a strategy to deal with the problem. Sgt. Beaux gave three warnings to each truck in the form of stickers on the side window. After the trucks have received their third consecutive sticker, he started issuing tickets. After the third consecutive ticket, the trucks were to be towed at a great expense to the driver. We are happy to report that Sgt. Breaux’s efforts have produced a very positive outcome. For the past week (Nov. 27 – Dec. 3) there were absolutely no trucks observed parking on Sonnet Glen Lane or anywhere else in the vicinity. We believe that it will remain that way indefinitely. Langham Creek Cheerleaders

The Langham Creek Cheerleaders would like to congratulate the fightin’ Lobo football team for advancing into the playoffs this year. It was a great, fun season and we are looking forward to next year. On November 17th, several of the Lobo cheerleaders visited the Grace Care Center of Cypress, a skilled nursing facility, to help the residents enjoy a wonderful Thanksgiving feast. They served up a bountiful meal for the residents and then sat down and enjoyed spending time with them while they ate. Way to get in the holiday spirit by helping others, Girls! Did you catch the cheerleader halftime performance at the Lady Lobo basketball game on Tuesday, November 29th? It was just a preview of things to come - the cheerleaders ramp up the courtside basketball cheers starting in January! On December 4th, many of the Lobo cheerleaders bundled up and hopped on a gorgeous arched float with a fabulous lighted megaphone and incredible holiday decor in the annual Parade of Lights! Rain did not dampen the spirits of the participants or the spectators - the lights and sirens going down Highway 6 were a spectacular sight. Having Langham Creek represented in community events is incredibly important in showing our neighbors what a fantastic student body attends our school and our girls do it so well! Go Lobos!

Copperfield Courier CYPRESS FALLS HIGH SCHOOL CHOIR NEWS WELCOME TO THE NEW YEAR 2012! We had a wonderful closing of our 2011 year. December was a flurry of activity. The Holiday Concert was beautifully arranged with traditional carols and an eclectic mix of international seasonal songs with accompaniment. Labay men’s choir shared their vocal talent to the festivities. It was a feast for the eyes, ears and soul. A perfect blending for a perfect start to the holidays. The students threw a joyous party with admission being non perishable food items to help out our neighbors in need. Amongst the fun was dancing, singing, the museum game and hilarity of the white elephant gift exchange. Don’t forget the mountains of cakes, cookies, flan, and more cookies!!! Auditions for the Area choir will take place January 7th in San Antonio. We wish all our participating members courage as they meet this challenge head on. Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA) performance

for the men’s choir will be this year. It is quite an honor to be chosen to participate and our men have been working diligently on their vocals. This will be in San Antonio and no doubt surrounded with fun as memories are made. UIL Solo and Ensemble Contest takes place on the 27th. Sing steady Eagles! A sweepstakes will be the hopeful theme of the day! Pizzazz is the annual variety show held in the auditorium of the high school. It is always well done, complete with choreography, costumes and set design. This family event will be on February 24th and 25th. Mark your calendars now as this is one show you do not want to miss! This is always a highlight to our school year. As always, we want to thank Mrs. Douglas, Ms. Loftin and our family of volunteers for whom we could not function. GO EAGLES CHOIR!
