Copperfield Women’s Club
Women Serving the Community
Submitted by Rosie Serrano-Garcia The women’s club closed the year with a wonderful Holiday Party at Tapas Capriccio. We celebrated with our friends and are ready to start the new year as “The Cy-Fair Women’s Club.” Our first meeting in 2012 will be on January 5th at the West Houston Church of Christ at 7:00pm. Start the new year on the right track and come join us. Make a difference in the community, while developing friendships for a lifetime. CWC is a service organization that gives back to the community, so all funds raised will go right back to the community in scholarships for graduating high school seniors, at Lone Star College, Cy-Fair and grants to other non-profits in our community, as well. Membership in the CWC is open to all ladies in Northwest Houston/Cypress neighborhoods. Currently we meet the first Thursday of most months at West Houston Church of Christ at 7:00p.m. for social time and refreshments, followed by a program at 7:30p.m. The church is located at the corner of Queenston and West Road. Our monthly meetings are not only educational and enjoyable, but they develop lasting fellowships. We look forward to meeting you in the new year! If you have any questions about our club or need directions to the church, please contact Susan McLeroy, Membership Chair at sudomac@ comcast.net. Closing the year as “The Copperfield Women’s Club”, we wish everyone, Happy Holidays and a very prosperous New Year!

For several years now we’ve had to endure the sight of 18 wheelers parked on both sides of Sonnet Glen Lane, a residential street. It is located one block east of Queenston on the north side of FM529 and runs from Advanced Auto Parts into the Sommerall subdivision, just on the outskirts of Copperfield. On October 6, 2011, the Copperfield Coalition met with Captain Glesmann, Lieutenant Reeves, and Sgt. Breaux of the Harris County Sheriff’s department. One of the topics that we discussed at this meeting was the parking of 18 wheelers on Sonnet Glen Lane. They discovered that Commissioner Radack had indeed placed a sign indicating no parking of commercial trucks on all entrances between Barker Cypress and SH6 on the north side of FM529. After investigating the situation, Sgt. Breaux developed a strategy to deal with the problem. Sgt. Beaux gave three warnings to each truck in the form of stickers on the side window. After the trucks have received their third consecutive sticker, he started issuing tickets. After the third consecutive ticket, the trucks were to be towed at a great expense to the driver. We are happy to report that Sgt. Breaux’s efforts have produced a very positive outcome. For the past week (Nov. 27 – Dec. 3) there were absolutely no trucks observed parking on Sonnet Glen Lane or anywhere else in the vicinity. We believe that it will remain that way indefinitely.
