NEWS FOR THE RESIDENTS OF COPPERFIELD Mrach 2012

Copperfield Women’s Club

Women Serving the Community

Our February meeting turned out to be great fun! We quickly took care of business and went on to play Boncomania! We definitely had Lady Luck in our club that night! The prizes were fabulous and everyone had a great time. In March we are looking forward to visiting with Sherry Eichberger with “One Green Street”. She will educate us on cosmetics that are actually good for us! Our ladies have overwhelmingly indicated that they are interested in learning more about Healthy Eating, Medical Spa Treatments and just staying healthy over all, so our upcoming programs will involve all of these areas. So, if you are interested in starting off the year in the right direction, please come join us. The more, the merrier!! CWC is a service organization that gives back to the community. This means that all funds raised will go right back to the community in the form of scholarships for graduating high school seniors, at Lone Star College, Cy-Fair and grants to other non-profits in our community, as well. Membership into the Cy-Fair Women’s Club is open to all ladies in Northwest Houston/Cypress neighborhoods. Currently we meet the first Thursday of most months at West Houston Church of Christ. Our meetings begin with social time and refreshments at 7:00p.m. immediately followed by a program at 7:30p.m. The church is located at the corner of Queenston and West Road. Our monthly meetings are not only educational and enjoyable, but they develop lasting fellowships. We look forward to meeting you there! If you have any questions about our club or need directions to the church, please contact Susan McLeroy, Membership Chair at sudomac@comcast.net. Thank you, Rosie Serrano

Copperfield Coalition A Non-Profit Incorporated Organization Our Accomplishments

OVERPASS PROJECT: On Feb. 27, 2009, the Overpass Project was defeated. We fought for three years to keep TXDOT from building a freeway overpass in the community of Copperfield (SH6 over FM529). We felt that this was a project that would hold negative impact to our community, both residential and business. We believed that it was not the correct solution to deal with the congestion of that intersection. We developed an alternative solution (which can be seen on our website) to deal with the heavy flow of traffic through this intersection. During our pursuit to keep the overpass from being built, we presented our plans to TXDOT. As of right now, TXDOT is strongly considering our plans and/or something very similar. LONGENBAUGH TREES PROJECT: On Arbor Day 2010, (April 30) many trees were cut down on Longenbaugh for the redesign and adding of lights to Longenbaugh. The Coalition worked with Harris County Commissioner Steve Radack’s office of Precinct 3 to address the loss of so many trees. On February 28, 2011, the Copperfield Coalition and the County Project Engineer did walk, mark and assist with the placement of 38 Oak trees along the Longenbaugh Corridor from SH6 to Royal Gardens. The tree planting project on Longenbaugh completed on March 25, 2011. 18 Wheelers Parked on Residential Streets: For several years 18 wheelers were parked on both sides of Sonnet Glen Lane, a residential street on the outskirts of Copperfield.
