Welcome to all the new neighbors in the Pemberton Heights area! The neighborhood lunch is quite a success! Won't you please join us? On April 11th, among other topics, Laura Bennet and Sabrina Brown will be there to discuss improvements to the neighborhood triangles. WHERE AND WHEN: The date will be the second Wednesday of each month. At 11:45 at Russell’s at Kerby Lane. COST: Each attendee will pay for their own meal by separate check. Permanent Financial Endowment Established for Pease Park The Pease Park Conservancy has been hard at work now for four years trying to bring this special place in our neighborhood back from the brink. It has achieved a lot in that time, including 462 new shade trees, an automated irrigation system, a repaired Tudor cottage and restored retaining walls, entrance arches and picnic tables. But, it recently reached perhaps its most significant and long lasting milestone with the establishment of a permanent financial endowment for the park with the Austin Community Foundation. Austin philanthropist Bill Dickson made the endowment a reality with a generous $50,000 donation payable over the next five years. No funds can be withdrawn from the endowment until it reaches $100,000 and then five percent of the funds on hand will be available to the Conservancy for park maintenance and improvements that the Austin Parks and Recreation Department cannot afford. This special valentine to Austin was kicked off in a press conference at Pease on February 14, 2012 featuring special heart shaped cupcakes from "Hey Cupcake," balloons and attended by a large crowd of neighbors, friends and well wishers. EVENTS CALENDAR APRIL 12: Movies in the Park sponsored by the Austin Parks Foundation returns with “Midnight in Paris “, at Republic Park downtown. This is a terrific movie that blends art, history, romance and differing views on life. More info about this and other showings at http://austinparks.org/ moviesinthepark.html. Dogs, picnics, and lawn chairs are welcome. Alcoholic beverages, glass and styrofoam are not permitted in the park. APRIL 14: The Senior Center at Lamar and 29th offers a variety of activities over the year. The Acoustical Café , a live music venue in a smoke free environment. April will feature Matt Harlan and Stephanie Fix. Tickets are $12 on line or $15 at the door. Visitors may walk or drive onto the grounds. Drivers will need to provide a driver’s license and walkers will need a photo ID to enter the base. Children must be accompanied by an adult, but do not need an ID.
