DRIPPING WITH TASTE WINE & FOOD FESTIVAL 2012 By Around Dripping Springs WWW.AROUNDDRIPPINGSPRINGS.COM
The 5th annual Dripping with Taste Wine & Food Festival will take its popular foodie-tainment event to another level on Saturday, September 8, with a new location and expanded offerings of gourmet foods, local wines, craft beers, artisans, and live music. Shannon Moler, Director of the Dripping Springs Visitors Bureau which sponsors the festival, said the venue relocation to the Texas Hill Country Olive Company offers the perfect setting. “The Texas Olive Company’s Tuscan-styled tasting room and orchard is breathtaking, and right in the heart of Dripping Springs,” Moler said. Moler, who is also the event chair, said the festival showcases the variety and quality of foods and wines throughout the Central Texas Hill Country region, starting with Dripping Springs. “Local wineries like West Cave Cellars and Bell Springs are coming, and Fredericksburg wineries like Grape Creek and Becker are coming,” Moler said. “We have more than 20 wineries from throughout the region, as well as chefs and dozens of area gourmet and specialty foods, plus, more than two dozen creative artisan vendors, too.” “Another surprise for visitors to Dripping Springs is the local craft beers, which will be represented at DWT2012 by area breweries like Jester King, Thirsty Planet, Independence, and Twisted X.”
Moler said other locally crafted, unique beverage options at this year’s festival will include sparkling hard cider from Argus Cidery, and Texas Sake. Making their first appearance also will be Texas Coffee Traders from Austin. Even Williams Sonoma is sending a chef to the festival for the first time, to present two cooking demonstrations. The lineup of live music entertainment will be varied and upbeat, with five bands scheduled to play throughout the day. The festival will close with a VIP awards ceremony from 7pm - 8pm, for the best in show chefs, wines, and foods. And speaking of VIP, even the women’s bathroom facilities on site will be upscale, with “Elite Silver Platinum” air-conditioned trailers featuring individual stalls with sinks and mirrors. Proceeds from this year’s festival benefit the non-profit Dripping Springs Visitors Bureau, launched in early 2012 with a mission to attract Hill Country visitors and guests to the town. According to Moler, the Dripping with Taste festival is made possible through a concerted community effort that pays off for visitors and residents alike. “This event takes a lot of energized volunteers, community leaders and business owners but the effort is worth it,” Moler said. “Visitors are delighted to learn they can experience all the Hill Country has to offer this close to Austin. Everyone loves this event and it just gets better each year.”

Summer Reading Wraps Up At Bee Cave Public Library
Did you “Read for Fun” this summer? More than 1,000 children took the challenge at Bee Cave Public Library and read more than a half million minutes. While the construction to repair the building kept the library from offering their usual array of book clubs, activities, and performers, it didn’t stop local readers from logging their minutes while reading for fun. Nearly 500 children turned in reading logs of at least 400 minutes and had their picture taken for a personal poster that now hangs on the wall of the library. Library Director Barbara Hathaway said, “We are so proud of our families for reading together, and making the effort to get the kids to the library for more books, even when we had no special activities to entice them.” Prizes and extra copies of high demand titles were made possible by generous donations from this year’s major sponsors, Broadway Bank and the Shops at the Galleria. Other partners supporting the library included A+ Federal Credit Union, Austin Foot & Ankle Specialists, Ben Archer State Farm Insurance, Huntington Learning Center, Learning Express, Rigby Advanced Dental, PAIYH Dance Studios, and Your Personal Best Physical Therapy. “We are so grateful for the continued and growing support of our business community. Their donations are a welcome supplement to our annual budget, and send a wonderful message to the
children about the value our community places on reading,” said Hathaway. All children reading at least 1,200 minutes were entered in a drawing for a number of grand prizes, including gift certificates to Learning Express, autographed copies of books, and the grand prize—a Nook Color® donated by the Friends of the Library. Teens and adults were also busy reading for fun at the Bee Cave library, earning chances to win a wide variety of prizes including two e-readers donated by the Friends of the Library. Other prizes ranged from autographed copies of books to gift certificates to local restaurants donated by Witch Wich and Maudie’s Tex-Mex. More than 300 people read a total of 1,200 books to participate in a chance to win. Construction is expected to last into November, and require occasional closings. The public is asked to check the library website and social media for updates and possible schedule changes. For more information, please call the library at (512) 767-6620. LIBRARY HOURS: Bee Cave Public Library is open TuesdayThursday 10 am to 7 pm, Friday 10 am to 5 pm, and Saturday 1 pm to 5 pm. The library is closed on Sunday and Monday. For more information, visit the library website at http:// pl.beecavetexas.com or call 512-767-6620.

Bee Cave Messenger - September 2012
“We, the people, want a better burger!” This was the cry heard around Bee Cave, Texas…until now. Lakeway’s Shane Street has run a lot of successful restaurants; but recently, Shane and wife, Shannon opened their own place, All Star Burger at the Hill Country Galleria. Just down from Dillard’s, All Star Burger offers your favorite American burgers … with an updated twist. They start with Premium Gold Pure Country Angus Beef. Their cows are fed a 100% vegetarian diet and have never, ever had any artificial growth hormones or antibiotics. They deck out their patties with carefully crafted combinations of gourmet toppings and serve them on locally baked, preservative-free buns. They offer a glutton-free bun alternative, as well as a “skinny style” lettuce-wrapped option. All Star Burger was inspired by the American spirit of enterprise: the vision, steadfast effort and determination that helped shape this great country. From the beginning, All Star was a family project. “Conceptually, we felt that part of our task was to convey our own family values, and our vision is born of the philosophy that going the extra mile is well worth it,” says Street. “In the weeks leading up to opening, our family home was a virtual test-kitchen. Our daughters, Kaitlin (14) and Gracee (12), worked along with Shannon and me, concocting our favorite burger combinations and taste profiles. The girls enjoyed the shake testing the most, and they were especially proud when we finally figured out how to translate the flavor of their favorite home-made s’mores into a shake!” laughs Street. The uncompromising American standards encompass all that All Star offers, including sweet potato fries, turkey Copyright © 2012 Peel, Inc.

or chicken (depending on what local Robertson Farm has available), tuna and hemp seed vegetarian patties, as well as a variety of farmers market salads made fresh all day. They’re proud to support local farms and vendors in their search for the freshest, healthiest possible ingredients. All Star offers American-sourced beer and wine selections, as well as old-fashioned hand-dipped Blue Bell Creameries Shakes in flavors like Dreamsicle and apple pie. They taste as good as you remember from your childhood ... but better! Copyright © 2012 Peel, Inc.
“Calling your burger “All Star” is a pretty bold claim, but this new place in the Galleria is living up to its name ...the burgers are big, juicy and already drawing fans. They’re topped several ways, and available in veggie, venison and Ahi tuna options, as well.” (Way out West review) “The chocolate shake was so rich and thick, we wondered if they forgot to put milk in it. This place is going to be giving other burger joints nightmares.” (The Austin Chronicle) “Moooove over Hopdoddy! I think I’ve found the best burger in Austin—just a bike ride away from home! We stopped in today for a late lunch and left ecstatic by our experience at All Star. This is exactly the kind of restaurant our area needs. They serve all of their premium, vegetarian- fed Angus burgers on freshly baked buns and top them with appealing and modern toppings, such as arugula, fried eggs, blue cheese and endless other gourmet toppings …What they’ve done well here is keep a simple menu that appeals to every member of the family. The décor is clean, modern and spacious and a great spot for larger parties, with some nice quiet nooks for couples. All Star has definitely hit the mark ...” (Yelp reviewer) “The place celebrates America and its (everyday) heroes. Even all the music is by American artists. I like the vibe and feel of this place and there is no denying that Shane Street knows his way around a great restaurant. This place is stupid good.” (Rob Balon—Austin area food critic)
