A holiday celebration is coming to Lakemont!

Join fellow residents for our annual visit from jolly old St. Nick on Sat, Dec. 2nd from 1:00pm to 4:00pm at the Lakehouse. Please RSVP to santasvisit@hotmail.com by Sunday, November 18th. There will be a photographer who will be there to take your ‘keepsake pictures.” Each photo will be $10.00. You will be able to pick-up your pictures while your kids enjoy activities at the craft table, story time with Mrs. Claus, snacks, and drinks. Check your email for more details coming soon! A successful National Night Out

Thank you to all residents who came out to participate in the National Night Out block parties on Tues., Oct. 2nd. Everyone enjoyed music, food, refreshments, and got to meet neighbors and block captains. Various concerns and issues were discussed. Crime Copyright © 2012 Peel, Inc.

The holiday is around the corner and planning for the Ladies Club’s annual holiday dinner is underway. It will be a potluck dinner and white elephant party for all men and women of Lakemont. As you have probably already noticed, Lakemont has a very large common area to maintain with numerous shrubs and trees and large grass areas. The Association would like to commence with a tree trimming project to try and improve street lighting and visibility to promote a better environment for homeowners in the community. During recent visits around the community, we have noticed that children have to walk on the streets due to the trees blocking the sidewalks and drivers have to drive on the wrong side of the road to avoid branches hitting their vehicles. We are constantly working to improve the appearance of our beautiful community and would love to see each homeowner partake on the same mission. We are asking that each homeowner ensure that their yard and street trees are trimmed to provide a six (6) foot head clearance and that no branches obstruct the walk ways or streets. Individual notifications will be sent to homeowners commencing in the beginning of October. We appreciate your prompt attention to this matter! LAKEMONT SELF-DEFENSE CLASS Come join the next Lakemont Self-Defense Class (KAJUKEMBO) to get some great exercise and meet a few of your neighbors. The activity is held at the Lakehouse on select Saturday’s from 9am – 11am. It is free and open to all Lakemont residents 17 years and older. Helpful Tips in Managing Diabetes by: Helene Glasper

Diabetes is one of the leading killer diseases in the world. In fact, in the Unites States alone, it is the seventh leading killer disease. In this case, a lot of people suffering from diabetes may have developed, especially in its most advanced stages, serious complications like heart diseases, kidney failures, loss of feeling both to feet and hands, end even extremity amputations. Diabetes is all about too much glucose content in your blood. Take note that all of the food that you are going to eat is turned into glucose (a kind of sugar), and will be used by your body as a source of energy. In this case, it is the role of insulin, a hormone, to make glucose enter the cells of your body. However, in diabetes, it’s either a person does not have enough insulin, or his/her insulin does not function properly, making glucose piled up in a person’s bloodstream. Unfortunately, a cure for this disease has not been discovered yet. Whenever you have this disease, it is better for you to manage it, rather than let it develop into serious complications which may prove to be life threatening. Here then are the different helpful ways on how to manage diabetes: Always take your diabetes medication, according to your doctor’s prescription. The prescription that your physician made must always be strictly followed. Take note that one missed prescription may make your disease worsen. Therefore, all appropriate medication must always be taken note of, and must be made top priority in your list. Choose a diet that is low in fats, salts, and sugars High fat, high salts, and high sugar foods surely makes your glucose level high. Therefore, always avoid such kind of foods. Taking fiber rich foods is more healthful for you, for this will control your blood sugar. In addition, never skip your meals. Check all blisters and scars Different cuts, blisters, swelling, and red spots, especially on your feet, may be an indication that you are already suffering from diabetes-related nerve damage. Especially when such scars don’t heal for a long time, it is already a cause for concern, and it is wise to immediately consult your doctor. Lakemont Living Holiday Dump Cake

Submitted by: Annette Rusher (Lakemont Ladies Club) 1 can of cherry pie filling (Pour in dish first) 1 can of crushed pineapple (Pour in dish second) 1 box of Duncan Hines Butter Cake Mix (do not mix up this, just spread dry, over wet ingredients) 1 1/2 stick of butter (melted) (pour butter over the cake mix after it has been spread over the prior ingredients) 1 cup chopped pecans (more or less your taste) Layer all ingredients in a 9 x 13 cake pan (glass or metal). Bake at 325 degrees for 1hr and 30 minutes (it depends on the temperature of your oven). Feeds 12 people.
