Meadows of Brushy Creek

December 2012

Merry Christmas & Happy New Year! We thank every member of our Homeowner Association. It takes every homeowner to help meet our goals and the main one is to keep our property values high by following our Deed Restriction Guide. Ninety-eight percent of our neighbors already follow these rules, but with your help we can get the other two percent to join us. We have twenty-three new homeowners in our association this year. We have been working hard to meet, greet, and give them a small gift to let them know that we are happy to have them join us. In a very short time we are going to be celebrating the completion of our new fence. It has been the talk of everyone who passes by. We hope to improve our entries and other areas with your help. Let us hear from you about our green areas. Now let us ask you to decorate for the Christmas holidays. If you are interested in the contest, there will be five awards given for the best themes. The judging will be completed on December 17, 2012. The prizes will be $100 for first; $80 for second; $60 for third; $40 for fourth and $20 for fifth place. We wish you and your family a happy and healthy new year! Your MBCHOA Board

Picture Show,Vaudeville Stage, Live Music & Fun for Any Age! “Christmas Is ON the Air 2012” at Silver Spur Theater, Dec. 1 - 22; An Oasis of Laughter Amid Holiday Chaos Seasoned Spuradicals make merry in WSPR-Radio’s annual holiday broadcast SALADO, TX (Nov. 13, 2012) – Weekends this holiday season find the hilarious crew of fictional WSPR Radio back “on the air” – and on the Salado Silver Spur Theater stage – readying for its annual live Christmas Eve broadcast. Naturally, nothing goes as planned, and hilarity ensues. “‘Christmas Is On the Air 2012’ is chock-full of the side-splitting slapstick and comedy routines that have made the evolving, annual holiday show a must-see for the entire family and their visitors,” said Grainger Esch, Co-founder and Artistic Director of the Silver Spur Theater. “This holiday show guarantees relief from shopping overload, decorating duties and party planning,” Esch emphasized. “Think of the Spur as a safe, family oasis of laughter far from the chaos of Christmas which is on comedic display on our stage.” The Spur, located at 108 Royal St., is in the renovated Guest and Sanford Granary & Feed Co., a recently designated historic site in Salado, a CenTex holiday shopping destination. The playhouse, with feed signs clearly visible, is a few blocks from the bustling IH-35 Corridor. Theater patrons will be right in “the studio audience” for the music, merriment and memorable, mirthful staging of an “on-the-air” radio variety show, Esch explained. The holiday scenario has been conceived, written and performed by The Spuradicals, the theatre’s cast of seasoned actors who continue the Silver Spur’s tradition of homespun, heartfelt, original family entertainment. Group rates are available. For reservations, call the box office at 254-947-3456. Reservations are strongly recommended for the 150-seat venue. For directions or more info, visit www.saladosilverspur.com. The eight-year-old professional theater will serve hot cider and expanded food choices at evening shows (only) at The Spuradical Social Club in the lobby. http://www.spuradicalsocialclub.net/ WSPR Proves Inalienable WSPR’s production crew and maintenance staffs are in a panic. They’ve just learned the station has been purchased by out-of-state interests with nefarious objectives for its airwaves during the holiday variety show. Once again, it looks like the rag-tag WSPR crew will have to improvise to maintain holiday cheer and thwart the new owners’ abominable plot. The seller, broadcast executive Edna Bigg, played by Melodee Lenz of Garland, gives the staff fair warning of the “visitors from New Jersey.” The inspired, rag-tag crew hustles to perform a variety of holiday-themed acts m viewers in exchange for monetary pledges. The result is an evening of song, satire, sentiment and fast-paced slapstick comedy in a Yuletide vein. This year’s gift of comedy from the Spuradical players’ burgeoning bag of goodies will include “remote telecasts” on Santa’s whereabouts as well as tap-dancing and a parody of “The Nutcracker.” “The holidays are typically filled with planning, pandemonium and presents,” Esch observed. “Every member of the family should consider taking a break from the decorating, cooking, shopping, wrapping, endless football games and greeting cards and treat themselves to hearty laughter and the enjoyment of live entertainment.” The cast includes Saladoans Esch as station manager “Slim Chance;” Karen Ewton as “Trudy,” the staff secretary; Logan Kimes of Garland as the ad sales rep, and teen actor Garrett Clark of Belton as “Gus the Gofer.” Stetson Gilchrest of Salado and Paula Kavanaugh of Austin portray the new owners.

Rounding out the entertaining ensemble are the Spur’s tuneful troubadour, Tony Blackman of Belton as the singing technical director, and Melodee Lenz of Garland in the roles of the former owner Edna Bigg and Charlie the maintenance engineer. Every actor is a veteran of the Spur stage. Nelda Milligan of Harker Heights, the Spur’s longtime accompanist and Musical Director, will provide live music, and there will be an audience sing-along, making the show itself another great form of seasonal togetherness. Meadows of Brushy Creek Wash Your Hands

Reducing spread of disease while at home and work By: Concentra Urgent Care

As a recipient of a gift, have you ever immediately turned around and paid it forward and given of your time, talent, and treasure to help someone else? Many who have received coats for their children and grandchildren at the annual Coats For Kids distribution day have come to the volunteer check-in and stayed for the rest of the day to help others just as they were helped moments earlier. They gave their gifts right back to the community… a circle of service truly indicative of a successful program. Coats for Kids is a program in its 26th year that provides warm winter coats each December to disadvantaged children and teenagers in Central Texas through a community-wide collection and distribution process. Each year, The Junior League of Austin, Jack Brown Cleaners, KASE 101 and KVUE partner with the community to ensure the children of Central Texas stay warm. On average, 30,000 coats are distributed per year with the help of over 2,600 community volunteers. So how can you participate? Donate a new or gently-used coat to your nearest Jack Brown Cleaners, organize a coat drive through many outlets in your community (schools, places of worship, offices, neighborhoods), volunteer during sorting days or distribution days or spread the word.

Facts:

• Distribution Day: Saturday, December 8th from 8:00 AM - 3:00 PM • Distribution Site: Palmer Events Center, 900 Barton Springs Road • Community Coat Drive: Monday, November 12th through Wednesday, December 5th. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) say that nearly 90,000 patients die in U.S. hospitals each year due to a preventable disease – many could be avoided if everyone properly washed their hands. From germs on office equipment to sick colleagues who decided to come into work anyway, people face the same dangers in the workplace. The same simple fact holds true: Washing your hands regularly is an effective way to prevent yourself from catching or spreading a preventable disease or illness. When to wash your hands The CDC recommends washing your hands every time you: • Prepare or eat food • Use the restroom • Tend to someone who is sick; both before and after • Blow your nose, cough, or sneeze • Handle garbage • Treat a cut or wound • Change a diaper or clean up after children • Handle an animal or animal waste Hand washing basics The CDC has issued specific guidelines about effective hand washing: • Wet hands with water • Use plain bar or liquid soap • Create a lather by vigorously rubbing hands together for 15-20 seconds—about the amount of time it takes to sing “Happy Birthday” twice • Be sure to wash palms, back of hands, fingers, and nails (clean nails by gently scratching nails down your opposing soapy palm) • Rinse off soap under a stream of water What else can you do? • Focus on hand washing in the lunch and/or break room • Be careful when using sponges and dish towels. These are ideal sites for bacterial growth. Always wash your hands after using these items. • Maintain a clean work area; regularly clean any office equipment, especially shared items such as phones and keyboards. • Remind your colleagues of the importance of hand washing, particularly when you witness someone neglecting to wash his or her hands. For more information To learn more about how washing hands regularly can help prevent disease, ask your health care provider, or visit the CDC’s creative Web site dedicated to raising awareness of the importance of hand washing at www.henrythehand.com.

Meadows of Brushy Creek Welcome New Homeowners!

YARD of the MONTH

(January-November, 2012)

November 2012 16501 Denise Drive

The HOA Board is trying to play catch-up by visiting each of our new HOA members and taking them small gifts as a way of saying “thank you” for choosing our HOA as you new home. During this year (Jan.-Nov.) we have added twenty-one new neighbors. We want to welcome you! If you have any questions or concerns our contact numbers are in the front of this publication.

The landscaping is very beautiful. Green grass is the background for the design created by using stones, pebbles and a variety of flowers and shrubs. This setting is framed by a beautiful fence which was designed and installed by the owner. Many hours have been spent to create and maintain this yard. Thank you for sharing this beautiful yard with our HOA.
