From the Board

At a recent Board Meeting, a contract was approved for landscape services. The contract term is slated for one year and has been awarded to One Yard To Go. We recently had our irrigation assessed for problems. The company will be providing us a scope of work identifying the issues and we will use that to request bids from three contractors to repair the system. If you are currently not receiving email blasts from Spectrum, please log onto their website www.spectrumam.com to create an account. This will get you registered with Spectrum and in turn give you access to view documents and information relating to our community as well as add your email address to the distribution list. We are currently seeking candidates to fill the Board position vacated by Emmanuel Beauchef. If you are interested in serving on the Board, please contact either ljames@spectrumam.com or board@wildhorsecommunity.com .

A Message from Ginger: Hello Wildhorse Community. I wanted to introduce myself as the newest appointed member of the Wildhorse HOA Board and provide a few details so you can get to know a little more about me. I am originally from Illinois and moved to the San Antonio area in 1992. I have been living in the Wildhorse Community since 2008 with my family. My husband Bill and I have three awesome children who attend Krueger Elementary School and Jefferson Middle School. We are a very active family, attend church regularly, enjoy the arts and we all love athletics. I personally participate in endurance running events. Since 2009 I have successfully finished 4 half marathons, 1 full marathon, and 1 duathlon. My education background includes degrees from Southern Illinois University-Carbondale and the University of Texas at San Antonio. I have held positions on student council and a few student social organizations at these universities which fostered the leadership needed for my career. I am currently a Senior Project Manager for an architectural firm located in downtown San Antonio and I have worked in the field of architecture for almost 20 years. As a part of my daily responsibilities I manage the production of a team of 8 young professionals who work beside me to create documents for construction projects. In addition, my duties as a project manager is to facilitate the design (Continued on Page 3) Wildhorse Messenger - January 2013

What is the Difference in a Board, Annual and Town Hall Meeting? With the recent legislative changes, it has become a requirement to have Open Board Meetings. Typically, Board meetings take place 4 times a year (once a quarter depending on what was agreed at the time of signing with Spectrum). This type of meeting allows the Board to meet to discuss any ongoing matters pertaining to the community. This could be items such as violations, outstanding balances and financial health of the Association, fence repairs, new installations, and much more. Members of the community are welcome to attend these and are allowed to address any concerns they have during a portion of the meeting titled “Citizens To Be Heard”. The main purpose of this meeting is to resolve any outstanding business by the Board. An Annual Meeting is held once a year and requires quorum from the membership to hold an official meeting. The percentage required is mentioned in your Bylaws. Members (lot owners) will be able to obtain actions taken within the year by the Board of Directions, hold elections for new members and address any concerns they may have. At this type of meeting outside speakers may attend and placed on the agenda to address any questions from the membership. It is quite common to have a member of the Police Department attend to address such matters as crime prevention. A Town Hall Meeting may be held however, it is not a requirement. This style of meeting allows renters as well as homeowners to attend and address any concerns they may have. There is no voting at this type of meeting as it is simply an informational meeting for those who may wish to attend.

Hazardous waste pickup in Wildhorse.

Have extra paint cans or other hazardous waste items you can’t throw in the regular trash? Then here is the solution for you! Bexar County makes it easy for those of us who do not live in the city limits to have our hazardous waste disposed of easily and safely. It is actually more convenient to dispose of hazardous waste through Bexar County than it is taking it to a drop off location within the city limits. An Evening at Two Step By Suzanne Patrick, Co-Chair Social Committee

On Saturday, December 1, 2012 Wildhorse had its first Adult Holiday Party at Two Step Restaurant and Cantina located just across 1604 and Braun near our community. The event was a huge success and neighbors had a chance to meet each other and catch up. Everyone enjoyed the lovely space we had that was beautifully decorated for the holidays including a roaring fireplace. We also had a beautiful patio space and it was a gorgeous night for it! There was plenty of food and drinks to go around and we heard lots of folks tell us they had a great time. We appreciated the feedback from folks in our community who wanted to see an event like this and ask that if you have suggestions for more events to please email them to social@wildhorsecommunity.com Thank you also to those who brought donations for the San Antonio Food Bank and to Misty Lambert who graciously offered to make our delivery to the food bank the following week. The Social Committee would like to thank their committee members and board members Ginger Johnson and Gerry Gutierrez for helping us main the check in table throughout the night.

WILDHORSE A Morning with Santa By Suzanne Patrick, Co-Chair Social Committee

On Saturday, December 8, 2012 the children of Wildhorse received a special early visit from Santa. Santa arrived at the Phoenix Children’s Academy located in our community and visited with lots of children. They took photos with him and told him of all the wishes they had for presents this year. Santa and his elves will be spending a lot of time making lots of new Legos and Barbies which were among some of the most popular gifts he heard about. Before and after their visits with Santa the children and their parents enjoyed coffee, juice and morning snacks, while coloring and visiting with friends and neighbors. Many children entered the coloring contest and the social committee was pleased to announce that Sydney Davis and Tarynn Haan were the winners. Their coloring photos are shown below this article. The families of Wildhorse were also very generous in our toy collection to benefit a local battered women and children’s shelter. Thank you Wildhorse for providing 50+ toys to children this holiday season. Because of our community’s generosity many others in the greater San Antonio community will have a better holiday. The Social Committee would like to thank the Phoenix Children’s Academy to opening their space to us for Santa’s visit. We truly appreciated their hospitality and look forward to partnering with them on future events. Our photographer for the event was New Layer Photography (https://www. facebook.com/NewLayer). Each family who attended the event received one free 8x10 of their favorite pose and discounts on some great holiday packages! Thank you again to our volunteers and all who supported this event. The Social Committee looks forward to more exciting events in 2013. Stay tuned for more information on upcoming events.
