Vistas Senior Takes Non-Traditional Path to Graduation

Chris Davila and 27 graduates Receive High School Diplomas Jan 11

Jan. 8, 2013 - Entering high school can be an intimidating experience for any incoming freshman. Transitioning to a campus that is often double or triple in size with nearly 3,000 new faces, different schedules, and more rigorous classes are just some of the obstacles new students can face. Getting lost in the mix, however, is what became a challenge for Klein ISD student Chris Davila. “I was the type of student that showed up to class, but not necessarily for the right reasons,” said Davila, who withdrew from high school mid-way through his first year. But fortunately for Davila, the Vistas High School Program was just the motivation he needed to set his life and career goals in a positive direction. “I knew I needed to make a change not only for myself, but for my family,” said Davila, who is one of four children. Even after his mom, Esmeralda, enrolled him in the Vistas program, Davila struggled to adapt in his first two years. It wasn’t until the end of his junior year, on the verge of failing, that something clicked for Davila to make a positive change. “Chris is the type of student that resembles our mission statement here at Vistas,” expressed Peggy Ekster, campus director. “He has completely changed for the better and has become a responsible, respectful leader for all students.” For complete story, visit www.kleinisd.net.

Whispering Pines Notable Quotes on Life For the New Year

The days of life are consumed, one by one, without an object beyond the present moment; ever flying from the ennui of that, yet carrying it with us; eternally in pursuit of happiness, which keeps eternally before us. If death or bankruptcy happen to trip us out of the circle, it is matter for the buzz of the evening, and is completely forgotten by the next morning.—THOMAS JEFFERSON Life is what happens to you while you’re busy making other plans.—JOHN LENNON Life is like riding a bicycle. To keep your balance you must keep moving.—ALBERT EINSTEIN For life, with all it yields of joy and woe, And hope and fear, -- believe the aged friend -Is just a chance o’ the prize of learning love. —ROBERT BROWNING
