Board Happenings: The Board devised a scope of work entailing our requirements for a community handyman. The scope was provided to prospective applicants and they in turn will be submitting a proposal to us. We have already heard back from some applicants regarding their interest. Upon receipt of all proposals, we will be making our final decision on which applicant to hire. We have been meeting with contractors in regards to repairing the walking trails. Many of the slabs have major cracks and crumbling edges. Additionally, we have had our irrigation assessed by a contractor and they have provided us with a scope of work. We have provided this scope to contractors in order to obtain bids to repair the system. We are currently working towards providing electronic ballots for the upcoming Annual Meeting. Spectrum Association Management, LP has used this for other communities and they have a good handle on how to proceed.

HOA Dues Prepayment Incentive for 2013

The Board of Directors reauthorized the prepayment incentive for 2013. The HOA is offering ten $50 gift cards to be raffled off to homeowners who have pre-paid their entire remaining year balance of by April 30th, 2013. The goal of the campaign is two-fold: to reduce the administrative burden of tracking residents at various stages of repayment and to reduce the number of delinquent accounts due to “missing” the payment due date because of an “oversight.” This plan also benefits residents who will have one less bill to pay for the remainder of the year. You will continue to receive quarterly statements from the management company showing a credit for the remainder of the year so you can track your balance. The Board of Directors would appreciate your consideration and cooperation with this effort.

Farewell to Emmanuel The Board of Directors would like to thank Emmanuel Beauchef for his service to the Wildhorse community as a director for the past year as he originally stepped in to complete another Board Member’s term. Emmanuel, who was elected for a 1 year term at our last Annual Meeting, has had to step down due to other obligations. During Emmanuel’s tenure on the Board, he has led in improving administrative procedures related to managing the handyman, contracts, and other vendors. Emmanuel, thank you for your service and sense of humor, we wish you all the best with your future endeavors.

Headaches Submitted by Dr. Jeff Echols I’ve been treating headaches for over 25 years and I believe they are very misunderstood by the general public. It’s only human nature to have a reason for why something is occurring, so when people get a headache they usually try to determine the reason for their headache. Some of the reasons I hear are quite amusing. “My husband gives me a headache, …my boss, …my kids.” “I sit at a computer all day and THAT is the reason I have a headache.”Sometimes people think that headaches are just normal and everyone gets them. I can assure you that headaches are not normal. Headaches are a sign that there is something wrong. Just like all symptoms are signs that something is wrong. Headaches can be caused by a lot of different things. They can be caused by exotic and dangerous things like a brain tumor, but more often they are caused by common things. The most common reason is pressure on the nerves of the neck that radiate back into the head. When the bones of the spine are misaligned it will put pressure on the delicate nerves that exit the spine. This will in turn cause the muscles of the neck and shoulders to become tight and develop knots in them You can actually reach up and feel the knots in your muscles. These knots are not normal and are a sign of spinal misalignment and soft tissue damage. Once the spinal misalignments are corrected the muscles relax more and the headaches are gone. Just for fun, I sometimes ask a headache patient when was the last they had a headache, once they have had their spine corrected. They will usually say something like “Gosh I haven’t had a headache in months”. I will ask them if they got divorced and they will look at me funny and say “NO, why?” You said your husband was the cause of your headaches! “Oh I guess I was wrong!” So headaches are not normal, but are very common. They’re usually caused by nerve pressure built up in the neck which causes tight muscles in the neck and shoulders. They can usually be corrected with gentle chiropractic therapy. You should get this checked even if the headaches are mild because if the bones of the spine are misaligned it will cause arthritic changes to form in the bones of the spine which will limit your ability to move and bend as well as other difficulties. Be proactive about your health.

• In order for our events to be highly successful we need YOU to volunteer • We try to give eople 30 minute shifts at events so that you can also enjoy the events as well • If you are willing to volunteer at any events listed please email social@wildhorsecommunity.com for more information

WILDHORSE Bike Lanes I think we can all agree that the bike lanes make a wonderful addition to our community and provide a safe place for bikers to ride. Recently, questions have been raised regarding pedestrians using the bike lanes instead of the sidewalks. This does pose a safety concern and is actually unlawful to do so. The following is an excerpt from the Texas Department of Transportation:

§ 552.006. USE OF SIDEWALK. (a) A pedestrian may not walk along and on a roadway if an adjacent sidewalk is provided and is accessible to the pedestrian. (b) If a sidewalk is not provided, a pedestrian walking along and on a highway shall if possible walk on: (1) the left side of the roadway; or (2) the shoulder of the highway facing oncoming traffic. (c) The operator of a vehicle emerging from or entering an alley, building, or private road or driveway shall yield the right-of-way to a pedestrian approaching on a sidewalk extending across the alley, building entrance or exit, road, or driveway.

WILDHORSE Career Tip of the Month By Suzanne B. Patrick

I decided to write this monthly article to assist community members who are job searching. I have been a career counselor for over 10 years in various institutions of higher education. In that time I have provided hundreds of people with job searching advice, review and editing of cover letters, resumes and other professional documents as well as advice on how to network and market yourself as a candidate. In this tough economy it is important to always put your best foot forward when searching for a job. Each month I will address a tip for job hunters. If you have a specific question you would like to have addressed please feel free to email me at asksuzanne@wildhorsecommunity.com and I will be more than happy to work it into the monthly articles. February’s Career Tip Key Tips for a Good Resume Your resume is the most important marketing tool in your job search. It is so important to be sure that the resume you use in your job search is a document you are comfortable with and easy for employers to understand. Follow these key tips when creating a resume.

to talk about! If it is two pages you should have very good reason.

Tip Number 5: Anything on your resume is fair game to discuss in an interview!

• Be prepared to discuss anything on your resume in full detail during an interview. If there is a job on your resume that you did not enjoy or one that ended badly be prepared to discuss it during the interview. Be careful to list language skills accurately on your resume. If you are not fluent in a language do not say that you are; you never know if the employer will choose to conduct the interview in that language. If you would like me to go into detail on any of these the tips above next month email me and let me know!

Tip Number 1: Typos can send your resume to the trash bin!

• Spell check Does Not Catch Every Type of Mistake: Example: “Instrumental in ruining Midwest operations.” Be sure to proofread!

Tip Number 2: Be consistent!

• Use tenses, periods, bolding, small caps, italics, etc., uniformly throughout resume.

Tip Number 3: Keep it organized and easy to read!

• Headings should be used effectively to keep everything organized. All entries in both the experience and education sections should be listed in reverse chronological order. • Be sure to include dates for when you graduated from your educational institutions as well as dates for all experiences whether they are employment or volunteer. • Avoid time gaps in your resume, however if you have a considerable amount of them consider learning more about functional resumes that might work better for you than traditional ones • Keep it easy on the eye by using bullets and making a good use of white space on the resume. It is also important to keep your fonts consistent and avoid excessive underlining or the use of bold letters. Try to use 11 or 12 point font, preferably in Times New Roman. No one likes to look at tiny print!

Tip Number 4: Keep it to one page!

• One page resumes are the standard in the industry. Be sure to highlight only significant achievements and activities you want Copyright © 2013 Peel, Inc.
