President's Letter Welcome Spring
I hope you’re enjoying the lovely spring weather. It’s exciting to see blooming, colorful plants again. It’s the perfect time of year to revitalize landscaping and repair or replace sod if needed. In the fall, the Lower Colorado River Authority predicted good rainfall for Central Texas. Let’s keep our fingers crossed that they were correct. You may have noticed our on-going challenges with the irrigation system. After the widening of Wyoming Springs, Stone Canyon acquired an irrigation system installed by the City of Round Rock. We inherited a free irrigation system and the task of maintaining a system that we knew nothing about. We’ve discovered many irregularities and repaired when found. It is our goal to maintain and keep the system in good repair to avoid unnecessary waste of our precious water. If you see any leaks or problems, please call our property manager, Bob Nardo, at 502-7510. If Bob is unable to take the call you’ll be given the option to dial zero to report the emergency. It’s also a good idea to email the board@stonecanyonoa. org so that we can follow up to help resolve as quickly as possible. Goodwin Management has upgraded their property management software with valuable new access to your HOA account with them. You will be receiving a letter from them with instructions on how to access your account. You will have the ability to see the balance of your account, review ACC applications and approvals and see a history of deed violations if you have any. You will only have access to your own account. If you want to look at your account before you receive your letter, visit www.goodwintx.com and request your information via email. Although garage sale participation has declined over the last few years, the Board was asked to continue to offer the Spring Garage Sale. The date will be Saturday, April 20th, 8am to 2pm. We’ll post signs around the neighborhood and advertise on Craig’s List and the local papers. Make sure to take advantage of bulk trash pick up on Monday, April 22nd. Have a safe and happy spring! Neighborhood Watch New Chair
Stone Canyon has a new Chair for our Neighborhood Watch Program: Donna Scoggins, who is our Watch Captain for Trickle Trace, Duerne, and Broken Branch. She lives on Montana Falls Donna was approved and appointed by our Board of Directors at last month’s meeting. Her contact info: DONNA SCOGGINS (512) 423-5901 donna@letsgotoescrow.com Donna is the perfect person to move our program forward. She knows our neighborhood, is tech and media savvy (which I am not); she is enthusiastic about working with everyone—best of all, she is the ultimate volunteer! As soon as she knew I would be leaving, she didn’t hesitate! I’m leaving because I’m getting married!! Many of you know that I lost my husband, Paul, to his valiant battle with Cancer in November 2009. Our best friend, David Dellefield, also lost his wife and my dear friend, Diane. Dave and I’ve known each other for 51 years; our families have been close all this time and our children and grandchildren are thrilled that David and I have found so much happiness and beginning our future together. To everyone in our community who provided so much support to both Paul and me during his 3-year illness, then kept my head above water these past 3 ½ years —Thank you. Hi all—time for our annual reminder that Stone Canyon’s Yard of the Month cycle begins next month (May) and runs through October. Although May marks each year’s initial official recognition, remember that our committee members will be out after the 15th of this month to nominate homes, then at the end of the month we’ll vote on the top 3 winners, along with 5 additional yards for Honorable Mention. Committee Guidelines and processes for nominating and final voting are spelled out below. The Committee consists of 8 full-time members and a few substitutes; divided into 4 teams of 2 members on each team; Stone Canyon is divided into 4 sections (A,B,C, and D); each team is assigned one section on a rotational basis, allowing each team to cover all sections at least once during the season. Nominating cycle: shortly after the middle of the month, each team nominates and submits 3 homes from their assigned section, with a total of 12 homes to be considered in the committee’s final vote. During the final week of the month, each committee member views each nominated home and submits their individual votes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place honors, as well as the 5 homes to be recognized for Honorable Mention. Monetary rewards: 1st place/$50 Home Depot gift card; 2nd place/$25 Home Depot gift card; 3rd place/$15 Home Depot

gift card. Each month, members of our committee will deliver the gift cards and yard signs to the top 3 homeowners, as well as signs to those 5 designated as Honorable Mention, recognizing each as a Stone Canyon Yard of the Month. We’re looking for 3 new full-time committee members, as well as 2-4 substitutes. Yard of the Month is (in my not-at-all-objective opinion) is the most enjoyable and fun committee to be a part of for several reasons: 1) We get to drive throughout Stone Canyon’s neighborhoods to enjoy the beautiful fruits of our fellow residents’ labor; 2) We get to take some ideas home to incorporate into our own landscaping; and 3) Though our most difficult task may be selecting only 8 from the 1101 yards in Stone Canyon, definitely the most fun of all is meeting the month’s individual winners and watching their smiles!! Stone Canyon
NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH by Joanie Brown
Due to continuing concerns, and to alert those of you new to our community, the following is a repeat of last month’s column: Reminder for each of us that these during the past few months. Stone Canyon residents have seen an increase in vandalism, particularly breaking into cars—many of which have been left unlocked. In some cases, items have been stolen; in nearly all instances, papers and contents have been either strewn around or removed from the vehicles and found as far as several blocks away. Residents throughout Stone Canyon have filed police reports with Williamson County Sheriff’s Department (contact info below), and law enforcement officials continue to follow up. If/when you, your neighbors, members of your or their families—or your visitors--see anything remotely suspicious, it is vital to file a report immediately with the Police. This allows them to add your information to their data trail of leads already being compiled. Do remain aware of anything or anyone “out of place” in your neighborhood. Notice if anyone appears to be paying unusual attention to your habits or those of your neighbors. Touch base

with your neighbors, especially get to know your new ones--keep each other up to date on community issues and concerns, especially safety-related*. “Word of mouth” among our residents has proven to be the fastest and most effective means of bringing attention to and sharing information about what’s going on. If you or your neighbors are not already signed up for our Neighborhood Watch alerts/info, be sure to provide your/their contact info to your street’s N.Watch Captain, or e-mail me with your name, address, e-mail and home/ cell phone info. Our Neighborhood Watch network is THE major weapon we can use against anyone who threatens our community. It’s our way of staying aware and keeping our neighborhood the safe place we want and need it to be for each other and our families. *Another important reminder: Not all safety concerns involve people from outside our community. Neighborhood safety also includes reporting to our county Sheriff’s department, anyone or anything that has the potential to harm people or pets. Some of our residents have reported use of BB guns in some neighborhoods, apparently causing the death of some small birds and animals. Other incidents have resulted in BB pellets or arrows being aimed at neighbors’ planters and other items close to windows and doors. This type of activity is especially dangerous in a heavily populated community of homes situated as close to each other as ours. Important Info to Post: Lt James David, Deputy with Williamson County Sheriff’s Law Enforcement Bureau, is active in patrolling our neighborhood. He’s requested we post his contact info, in the event of an emergency, home or auto burglary, or any suspicious persons or activity: * (512) 943-1300 * FAX: (512) 260-4225/238-2114 * e-mail: JDavid@wilco.org Other Contact Info: *Dispatcher for Williamson County Police…..(512) 218-5500 *William County Sheriff’s office…..(615) 790-5560 Lt David also stresses: first and foremost consider your own safety; don’t confront unless you have to. DO call police. Even if a suspected perpetrator is gone, it’s necessary to file a police report. If possible, please notify your Block Captain and your neighbors so the word can be passed through our N.Watch network as quickly as possible. * Helpful Info from Rebecca Bird, Sunburst Pkwy’s N.Watch Captain: There is a FACEBOOK page for Stone Canyon; just input “Stone Canyon Neighborhood” and you should get it. Rebecca was able to find an owner for a lost pet on that page when flyers and going door to door didn’t work. Thank you. Joanie Brown….. paulandjoaniebrown@hotmail.com ; hm: 7332913; cell: 784-3512
