May Landscape Tip Lawn
Mow regularly to avoid grass from getting too tall, ideally you would like to remove 1/3” but not more than that. Change patterns when mowing to avoid getting ruts (mow front to back , side to side and diagonally. Make sure to fertilize your lawn if it has not been done yet, with temperatures rising and the turf growing at a faster rate, fertilization is key to promote a healthier lawn and root system which will reduce weeds on your lawn.
Aerification
In addition to fertile soil, plants also need water and oxygen to thrive. Many times, especially in high traffic areas, soil becomes compacted, which results in poor water and oxygen flow. A simple process, aerification, fixes the problem by creating open pockets in the soil that promote water and air movement resulting in healthier plants and soil.
Watering
This month is generally the month where temperatures are rising to 90 degrees or more. Make sure to adjust your irrigation to water from ½” to 1” depending on the area (shade versus direct sun). Normally most of the irrigation controllers have a cycle soak feature to avoid runoff. Water durning the morning hours, try to avoid evening watering since this can promote fungal diseases.
