President's Letter

Greetings everyone and welcome to springtime in Texas! This is one of the most beautiful seasons of the year in our neighborhood. The trees are leafing out in that vibrant green indicative of new growth, flowers are blooming, and the wind is blowing all those oak nutlets into our swimming pools, clogging skimmers and filters on a daily basis. That last part is actually one of the things I could really do without, but if it were a real problem I would just pony up and get a pool cover! There are lots of nice days and evenings during this time of year to relish by strolling along the new park paths in Melrose Park. Several homeowners have commented on how nice it is to be able to walk unimpeded along the new paths as they wind along the creek and through the trees. I highly encourage you to find time to enjoy a leisurely walk through the park. For those of us who enjoy having our four-legged family members with us in the park, I want to encourage all pet owners to please be responsible for your pets. While we may enjoy letting our pets run free in the park, there are those who are not as enamored with the idea, and may actually be fearful of unleashed pets. As a responsible pet owner it is very important to understand that the park is shared by all,and is not a private backyard to let your pets run uncontrolled and potentially interfere with someone else’s enjoyment of the park. Please be sensitive to these issues and control your pets. After all, if there is an unfortunate incident involving your pet, there could be some extremely undesirable consequences. On a related point, all pet owners are also responsible for “picking up” after their pets. Please remember to take a plastic bag or two with you on your next excursion and clean up after your pet. There are trash cans in the park where you can put the used bags so you don’t have to carry them with you. This is important in helping us keep the park clean and usable by everyone, and it is also helpful in controlling the sanitary condition of the park and preventing the spread of disease. I realize these suggestions are superfluous to most of us, but we do occasionally have issues along these lines and if they are not appropriately addressed voluntarily it could result in the institution of rules and regulations that would substantially limit the use of the parks for our pets. So in the interest of your pets and your neighbors please be responsible for your pets while in the park. Keep it clean and safe for everyone.
