Teen Night at the Timber Country Pool On Saturday, August 10, 2013 from 7:00-9:00 pm, the Social Committee is hosting a Teen Night at the Timber Country Pool. We will have a DJ, food and drinks, as well as fun games with prizes. The event is open to teens age 13-17 and pool cards will be required for entry. We also hope that some of our older scout troops with teens this age and their leaders will consider attending! We also have a great need for volunteers to make sure our event runs smoothly, including parents to chaperone the event. A big thank you to Deputy Badillo of the BCSO Crime Prevention Unit for making the Safety Meeting a success. Deputy Badillo spoke to residents and provided crime statistics for our area. Major points of the discussion included: • Get to know your neighbors and the people on your block. It is great to know your neighbors and who is supposed to be and not supposed to be in our neighborhood.

• Do everything you can do to secure your surroundings - keeping your home, vehicle and property from being a target. You want thieves to move onto another house, not yours. If we all take these precautions, hopefully thieves will move onto an entirely different neighborhood.

• Never, never confront a thief in the act. Try to gather as much information as possible, such as license plate, vehicle description, etc. and inform the police right away of any suspicious behavior.

Career Tip of the Month

I decided to write this monthly article to assist community members who are job searching. I have been a career counselor for over 10 years in various institutions of higher education. In that time, I have provided hundreds of people with job search advice and review, as well as editing of cover letters, resumes and other professional documents. I have also provided advice on how to network and market as a potential job candidate.

In this tough economy, it is important to always put your best foot forward when searching for a job. Each month, I will address a tip for job hunters. June’s Career Tip: The Interview Process Remember the interview is a two-way street. The employer wants to see if you are a good fit for their organization and you want to see if the position is a good fit for your skills and ambitions. It is important to know yourself and the organization as well as its key players before you go on the interview. Be sure that you are very familiar with the position requirements and what skills you have that matches them.

It is important to deal with your nerves before you get into the interview. Do so by practicing answers to questions and making sure you are prepared. Do research about the organization before you go on the interview. Be sure you look the part and are dressed professionally. Remember to always bring extra copies of your resume or other documents they may request including a reference list.

It is good to try and establish a rapport with the interviewer and be prepared to answer tough questions. Be intimately familiar with everything on your resume and know that all of it is fair game for the asking. Use examples from your experience to support your answers and focus on your skills and accomplishments. Highlight your knowledge about the organization and how you can contribute to their end goals.

Be candid, humble, consistent and enthusiastic. At the end of the interview, thank them for their time and always write a thank-you letter within 24-48 hours after leaving the interview.

Triathlon Recap Imagine waking early in the morning to run a 5k, bike 10 miles, or to take a 400m swim. As difficult as it sounds, imagine doing all three events in sequence. The first Wildhorse Triathlon was held Saturday, May 4 with over thirty participants and their friends and family cheering them on in this unsanctioned inaugural event. Participants were enthusiastic about the challenge and convenience of competing in the community. They even took the time to cheer their fellow neighbors as they crossed the finish line. Many participants are encouraging others in our community to participate next year. The recreation committee chair, Hilda Black, was ecstatic at how well-received the event was by participants and the community. A special thanks is extended to ESD 7 who volunteered to supply EMS support for this event. Citizens be heard

It occurred to me how lucky we are as a community when I witnessed both children and adults picking up trash around our neighborhood last month. Though I have heard of some families doing this in the past, I had never seen so many of our neighbors organized to do such good. Because of other obligations, I was unable to participate this day so I was determined to show my appreciation by writing a note of thanks in our newsletter. That was not enough. I recall how many times I have picked up trash from in front of my house and side yard that was not even my own. It occurred to me that people were throwing these items into those uncovered 18-gallon recycle bins and it was the wind that carried them on to my property. I decided to contact my trash collector, Tiger Sanitation, and requested a replacement container. In addition to getting 5 times the recycling storage capacity, this new container has a lid. You can contact Tiger Sanitation at 210-333-4287 to request a free replacement bin. For those not with Tiger or cannot accommodate a larger container, a quick search on the internet turned up several vendors selling recycle bin covers for less than $8.00.

These small steps would help keep our intended recycle materials in the bin and out of our drainage and spillways. I hope to participate in a future community cleanup day, and hope that these small changes that we make today will make cleaning our community that much easier in the future.

Nuisance Barking • If you have a problem with a domestic animal, such as a dog or a cat, the Bexar County Animal Control Services can assist you.

THIS IS A FREE BEXAR COUNTY SERVICE. If you have a complaint about a dangerous dog or cat, a nuisance barking dog, a stray cat, kittens, puppies, pet adoptions, negligent pet owners, San Antonio SPFL, or San Antonio Humane Society, please contact the county at 210-207-6650.

• The county does not handle problems with wild animals, such as squirrels, rats, skunks, raccoons, or snakes. Wildlife control requires special training and knowledge, and often involves detailed property and home inspections. For wildlife problems, call 210-224-3005.

• To report Animal Cruelty or Dangerous Animals (including strays) in San Antonio or unincorporated areas of Bexar County, please call 311.

• Additionally, the HOA is not able to assist you in these types of situations. The most the HOA will be able to do is refer you to Spectrum who can send a letter to your neighbor. The best course of action is to first approach your neighbor and try to resolve the problem by politely making them aware of the situation. Often, this gesture is appreciated and helps to avoid escalating the problem. If the problem persists, you may then contact our management company, Spectrum, for assistance in getting a letter placed. This is the extent of which the HOA can be of assistance. Property inspections are performed as part of our management company’s contract in order to monitor compliance with the CC&Rs. The purpose of these visits is to maintain the beautiful community we live in and help uphold our property values. The goal of these notices is to minimize progression of these violations and to remedy outstanding violations.

Please familiarize yourself with our governing documents found in your closing documents and on Spectrum’s website.

Our site managers visit Wildhorse twice a month in unmarked vehicles.

Please remember that ACC approval is required for all exterior modifications to your home. Please submit a request prior to initiating any modifications. A form can be found on Spectrum’s website (www.spectrumam.com). If you ever have a question regarding a violation, please feel free to contact Spectrum at 210494-0659. WILDHORSE Animal FAQ

How do I get a dead animal removed?

As part of its maintenance responsibility, the Public Works division of the Bexar County Infrastructure Services Dept. removes animals that have been killed on County-maintained rights-of-way. These include streets, roads and water drainage facilities that are outside the incorporated limits of any cities or towns in Bexar County and not maintained by the State of Texas (federal and state highways, farm to market roads, and interstate highways). They do not service privately owned roads, such as in gated communities, and other roads not accepted for maintenance by Bexar County. Deceased pets are the responsibility of the pet owner. Animals killed in County-maintained rights-of-way are normally removed the same day they are reported.

Call 210-335-6700 to report the location of dead animals on the road.

How do I get a live animal removed?

Bexar County contracts with the San Antonio Animal Care Services department for removal of live animals (unleashed or stray dogs, cats, etc.) that are a nuisance to County residents. The Infrastructure Services Department does not employee any animal control employees. Contact the City of San Antonio Animal Care Services at 210-207-6660 and be sure to mention the animal is located outside the city limits.
