COPPERFIELD COALITION LONGENBAUGH PROJECT COMPLETE

The modifications to Longenbaugh’s east bound lanes at Hwy 6 to allow Copperfield to again have an attractive median dividing the east and west bound traffic are now complete. The four east bound lanes remain, but are narrower by 1 ft. to 11 ft. wide. Thus we’ve recovered an 8 ft. median wide and that will allow the beautification of the median which will be maintained by the CCA. Again special thanks to Commissioner Steve Radack, HECD’s John Blunt and the CCA for making this possible. LCHS CHEER CLINIC The Lobo Cheerleaders will be hosting their annual Cheer Clinic on Saturday, October 5th from 9am-12:30pm at Langham Creek HS. All boys and girls ages 4 thru high school are welcome to attend! They will all have a picture taken with the mascot and get instruction on jumps, cheer, tumbling and dance. Everyone will enjoy a snack and take home a megaphone & certificate of completion. All participants are invited to perform on the field during the first half of the LCHS football game on Thursday, October 10 at 7:00pm. At the clinic, raffle tickets can be purchased for $1 each or 6 for $5 to win exciting goodies! Pre-registration is going on now- $30 or $35 to include t-shirt ($35/$40 at the door). GIRL SCOUTS OF SAN JACINTO COUNCIL Leaders from all around Copper Creek Meadows got a chance to meet each other at an event on August 18.Copper Creek Meadows includes the former Bear Creek, Bluebonnet Meadows and Copper Corners service units, so we cover a wide area up and down Hwy 6. We are all looking forward to the new year of Girl Scouting, and it was a great chance to get acquainted, and make some plans for the 2013-2014 year! To quote from the Girl Scouts of San Jacinto Council website, "Girl Scout programs are adapted to meet the developmental, educational, emotional and social needs of girls at five age levels." Girls may become Girl Scouts at any age level, and no previous Scouting experience is required. • Girl Scout Daisies are in kindergarten and first grade (roughly ages 5-7). • Girl Scout Brownies are in grades 2-3 (ages 7-9) • Girl Scout Juniors are in grades 4-5 (ages 9-11) • Girl Scout Cadettes are in grades 6-8 (ages 11-14) • Girl Scout Seniors are in grades 9-10 (ages 14-16) • Girl Scout Ambassadors are in grades 11-12 (ages 16-18) Girl Scouting in the United States began in 1912, and it is continually changing and evolving, while remaining true to its core values, the Girl Scout Promise and Law. Girl Scouts are active girls! Girl Scouts in San Jacinto Council have opportunities for many outdoor activities (sailing, horseback riding, canoeing, archery and more) at our beautiful camps. We also explore nature in our own backyards and neighborhoods, work on service projects, and learn new skills. Girl Scouts also share in the traditions of the world wide Scouting movement. Copper Creek Meadows serves girls in the residence areas for the following schools: Lieder, Metcalf, Tipps, Wilson, and Texas Christian School, Birkes, Fiest, Lowery, Horne, Owens, Kirk, Hairgrove, Lee, St. Elizabeth Ann Seton and Christian Life Center Academy. And that isn’t all - we also serve the corresponding middle and high schools! Home school and private school students are always welcome! Rally Days (when we recruit new leaders and form new

troops) will be scheduled soon, so be on the lookout for more information! Don’t forget that many of our most exciting opportunities are available to older girls. Wider Opportunities, Council trips, and special interest groups (backpacking, archery, Green Starlettes and more) are activities in which our Cadettes, Seniors and Ambassadors participate. There will be a special event for Cadettes and Seniors Nov 1-3 at Camp Casa Mare, “It’s Your Story, Tell It!” This will be a fun filled weekend exploring the Media and Mission Sisterhood Journeys. Girls in grades 6-12 who love learning about the stars, sun and moon are invited to join the Astronomy Interest Group, which meets at the Girl Scout Center (they also go camping!). Please contact Rosie Haffemann (rosiehaf@windstream.net) for more information. Copper Creek Meadows will also be part of Region 4, with Cypress Bend and Wild Flowers neighborhoods. The larger group is planned to connect with existing interest groups, and Council day and twilight camps, and to identify and establish relationships with other programs. We know this is especially important to provide opportunities for our girls. Think these sounds like fun? Give us a call- we’d love to talk to you! These are women (and men!) aged 18 on up to serve as troop leaders and to help with special projects and activities. A background check and some training are required to get started; lots more training is available when you need it. You do not need to be Ranger Rick, Martha Stewart, or Wonder Woman (though we would be happy to sign them up too!) Some of our volunteers don’t even have children! You do need to be interested in working with girls, helping them achieve their goals, and having FUN!

Langham Creek FFA Craft Show The 18th Annual Langham Creek FFA Craft Show is November 9th & 10th at the Cy-Fair ISD Exhibit Center at Telge/Hwy 290. Varsity mascot is Josh Attra. JV mascot is Maggie Martin. These two squads completed an intense three days of camp to kick off the new season. Cypress Philharmonic

The Cypress Philharmonic proudly launches its second season with a Four Seasons theme. On September 22, the first concert, “Stirrings of Autumn,” evokes a fall mood with Peggy Stuart Coolidge’s twomovement “New England Autumn” and Kirt Mosier’s “Overture to the Wind.” The program features Antonín Dvořák’s powerful “New World” Symphony (No. 9) and the world premiere of Houston artist Joe LoCascio’s sneaky “Gently Criminal” for strings. Rounding it all out is Mexican composer Arturo Márquez’s lively “Danzón No. 2” just in time to kick off Hispanic Heritage Month. This year, the CyPhil adds a special event, collaborating with the Houston Repertoire Ballet to create a “Winter Wonderland” with a full production of Pyotr Tschaikovsky’s The Nutcracker. Houston Repertoire Ballet, founded by Gilbert Rome and under the direction of Victoria Vittum, has mounted a production of The Nutcracker annually since 2001, but now will feature live music from the Cypress Philharmonic. Performances will be held on Saturday, December 7 at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. and Sunday, December 8 at 1 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. in the Tomball High School auditorium with reserved seating. Ticket information is at www.hrbdance.org and 281-940-4721. Major funding for the project is provided by Houston Endowment and ConocoPhillips Company. The Nutcracker is also funded in part by

grants from Harris County and Texas Commission on the Arts through the Houston Arts Alliance. On March 23, 2014, “Spring Fever” highlights the passion of romance with music from Georges Bizet’s Carmen Suites No. 1 and 2 and Aaron Copland’s “Appalachian Spring.” Themes of rebirth and renewal are visited in music from Linda Tutas Haugen’s Transformations of Darkness and Light and Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov’s Russian Easter Overture. The annual pops concert will be held on June 28, 2014. Information about this “Summertime” concert will be made available through the website and print and social media. The Cypress Philharmonic is a 50+ member ensemble made up of music educators and professional musicians in and around the Cypress area. Founded by Music Director Glynnes Lanthier in 2012, the CyPhil presents classical favorites alongside new and recent works by a diverse group of composers. KIDS' CROSS-COUNTRY TEAM'S SEASON STARTS SEPTEMBER 10TH

The Northwest Flyers Track Club Youth Cross-Country Team kicks off the fall season with registration and a mandatory orientation for parents and athletes on Tuesday, September 10, 2013, at 7:00 p.m. Registration will be held at Cypress Creek High School, 9815 Grant Rd., Houston, TX. The first practice will be held at the Cypress Creek YMCA on Thursday, September 12. The Northwest Flyers Track Club is a member program of USA Track and Field (USATF), the national governing body for track and cross country. The club is in its 26th year in the northwest Houston area. Ages 6 - 18 may participate in the team, and both beginners and experienced runners are welcome. Middle school and high school cross country athletes can also register, but should compete after their cross country season is over.
