Dear RRR Residents, I had the privilege of representing Round Rock Ranch at the City of Round Rock’s 1st Annual Neighborhood Conference Saturday, October 5th in the United Heritage Center at The Dell Diamond. Mr. Joseph Brehm, our Neighborhood Services Coordinator for the City of Round Rock hosted the event and brought several guest speakers in for break out sessions and panel discussions regarding our city’s growth and direction and how our neighborhoods are a part of that decision making.

Topics covered were Legislative Update for HOA’s, Home Repair Program – a Community Development Block Grant Opportunity, Water Conservation, and Neighborhood Watch – Do’s & Don’ts were very informative and a great way to hear how other neighbors deal with these situations. Madelyn Gibbs, Neighborhood Education Coordinator for the City of Fort Worth was a big inspiration to all of us on our first annual get together.

All information will be posted on the City of Round Rock website, so please feel free to get involved and participate in this valuable department the city is building for us, the residents of Round Rock.

november Enclave Update A big THANK YOU goes out to the Residents who helped out with Fall Clean Up Day this year. And an especially big THANK YOU to the middle school National Junior Honor Society students who volunteered their time to assist as well. Mark your calendars for Saturday, April 5th for our next Spring Clean Up Day. Some quick notes regarding turf grass: First, if you have let your front or side lawns go, for whatever reasons, now is the time to contemplate replacement. You may not be able to find sod at your local home center, but you should be able to get it from turf grass distributors or landscaping companies.

Second, the Texas A&M Agrilife Extension for Williamson County recommends watering an established lawn every 4 to 5 weeks during the dormant period if adequate rainfall does not occur. Basically, if you are running your sprinkler system from November through February, you are wasting money and resources.

Lastly, you can expect a strong push this coming Spring on violation letters and fines if your lawn is dead or predominately weeds. Start planning now to avoid stiff fines. Feel free to contact the Board if you have questions on what to plant or would like to take advantage of the new Xeriscaping Guidelines which should be recorded with the County by the time you read this. enclaverrrboard@gmail.com One of the major projects hanging over the Enclave is the sealing of roads. This is a routine maintenance that should be performed every eight to ten years. As of this time, it has never been performed, so we are significantly behind. Discussions have been going on for over three years now on this project and we have been putting close to $300 per month into our reserve account to help offset the cost of this project. We currently expect to begin this project in Spring of 2015. Funding for this project was on the agenda for the October meeting of the Board of Directors but this writing was submitted prior to the meeting. Please email the Board if you would like to know the outcome of the discussion.

Unfortunately, the accounts receivables for the Enclave continue to climb at a disturbingly fast rate. At some point, we may be forced to tap the reserve account just to cover expenses. As the money owed to the Enclave grows, so does the expense of our collections which takes even more funds from our operating account. While this is billable back to the homeowner, collections take time, and as a result we have to delay small projects like power washing the stone columns around the gate, or new plantings, or finding a new landscaping company.

Once again, our Friends at PAMco, the Enclave’s management company, are sponsoring a Holiday Lights Contest with 2x$50 gift cards as prizes. Judging will take place on or around December 16th. Like our property inspections, we will not know exactly when they are coming – but they are coming!! The Judges will consist of Doug’s children who are looking for something creative – not the “Clark Griswold” type of lighting. Homes with any kind of Holiday lighting/decoration will be considered. (Hint: Doug has indicated his kids like the color purple and princesses) This contest is only open to Residents of the Enclave @ Round Rock Ranch, a.k.a., Round Rock Ranch PUD#13 = all homes on Rosenborough and Briarton only.

5 TIPS TO BE A GOOD NEIGHBOR: 1. Say hello. A friendly smile and

wave to a neighbor when you go out and get the mail can go a long way toward creating a pleasant atmosphere.

2. Trim your trees over the sidewalk so your neighbors can walk under them; not around them.

3. Do not let your dog poop on the sidewalk. Remember, little poops get tracked around just as much as big ones do. YUCK! 4. Remove dead trees, shrubs and bushes and replant for updated and good looking curb appeal.

5. Be a good driver. Don't treat the neighborhood streets as your personal racetrack. Always be mindful that there are kids, dogs, walkers and bikers out on the street. Also, when driving through your neighborhood, turn the volume on your car stereo down. Your neighbors shouldn't associate your comings and goings with a thumping bass and rattling windows.

CHRISTMAS PARADE Held the Saturday following Thanksgiving, Chuy's Christmas Parade features giant inflatable balloons, holiday floats, classic cars, marching bands and Santa. However, in addition to being great entertainment for those in attendance, Chuy's Christmas Parade also serves as a toy drive for needy children. Spectators are encouraged to bring a toy, which will be collected by 'Santa's Helpers' on behalf of Operation Blue during the parade.

A Focus on Influenza:

What You Should Know About the Flu

The flu is a contagious respiratory illness caused by influenza viruses. It can cause mild to severe illness, and at times can lead to death. The best way to prevent the flu is by getting a flu vaccination each year. Every year in the United States, on average: • 5% to 20% of the population gets the flu • More than 200,000 people are hospitalized from flu complications • About 36,000 people die from flu Some people, such as older people, young children, and people with certain health conditions, are at high risk for serious flu complications.

How Flu Spreads Flu viruses spread mainly from person to person through coughing or sneezing of people with influenza. Sometimes people may become infected by touching something with flu viruses on it and then touching their mouth or nose. Apparently healthy adults may be able to infect others beginning one day before symptoms develop and up to five days after becoming sick. That means that you may be able to pass on the flu to someone else before you know you are sick, as well as while you are sick.

Key facts about seasonal flu vaccine The single best way to protect against the flu is to get vaccinated each year. There are two types of vaccines: • The “flu shot”: an inactivated vaccine (containing killed virus) that is given with a needle, usually in the arm. The flu shot is approved for use in people older than 6 months, including healthy people and people with chronic medical conditions.

• The nasal-spray flu vaccine: a vaccine made with live, weakened flu viruses that do not cause the flu (sometimes called LAIV for “Live Attenuated Influenza Vaccine”). LAIV is approved for use in healthy people two to 49 years of age who are not pregnant.

The viruses in the vaccine change each year based on international surveillance and scientists’ estimations about which types and strains of viruses will circulate in a given year. About two weeks after vaccination, enough antibodies build up to provide protection against the influenza virus.

Symptoms Of The Flu • Fever (usually high) • Headache • Fatigue (can be extreme) • Cough • Sore throat • Runny or stuffy nose • Body aches 6

• Diarrhea and vomiting (more common among children than adults) Having these symptoms does not always mean that you have the flu. Many different illnesses, including the common cold, can have similar symptoms.

Good Health Habits For Flu Prevention The single best way to prevent seasonal flu is to get vaccinated each year, but good health habits like covering your mouth when you cough and washing your hands often can help prevent respiratory illnesses like the flu. There also are flu antiviral drugs that can be used to treat and prevent the flu.

• Avoid close contact with people who are sick.

• Stay home when you are sick.

• Cover your mouth and nose when you cough or sneeze.

• Clean your hands.

• Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth due to the spread of germs.

• Practice other good health habits:

∙ Get plenty of sleep

∙ Be physically active

∙ Manage your stress

∙ Drink plenty of fluids

∙ Eat nutritious food

November is time for garden cleanup and preparation for cool weather. Hoeing or pulling weeds in November prevents them from setting seed and makes life easier in spring and summer. Once weeds are removed, plants such as perennial flowers, berries and shrubs benefit from a 2- to 3-inch layer of mulch that protects the roots from variations in temperatures. Dry, chopped leaves make good mulch, but wet leaves are best added to the compost pile.

Used as mulch, they become compacted and prevent water and air from reaching plant roots. Instead, use bark chips, pine needles, or other natural mulch.

Some gardeners prefer to cut perennials down to 4 to 6 inches from the ground in autumn. However, leaving the perennials in place until spring adds interest to the garden and provides food and shelter for songbirds. November is the last chance to safely plant spring daffodils, tulips, crocus and other spring bulbs. November is also prime time to store garden equipment that won't be needed until spring.

Service the lawnmower, and clean and sharpen the blades. Drain garden hoses, and store them out of the weather.
