With the Board's support, we plan to make this an annual event...it was awesome and just what our community needs for all the young families that live here.

Holiday Safety

Halloween Neighborhood Bash The Halloween party at Duxbury Park was a huge success. We had over 200 people with probably over 100 kids of all ages.

The NOC along with the HOA helped in providing tables and chairs, security, trash boxes with bags and coordinated a donor for 100 servings of ice cream.

It truly was a community event as everyone brought a dish and drinks to share. All had a great time meeting one another and enjoying our youth running around and admiring all the Halloween costumes.

Happy Holidays! Please keep yourselves and your valuables safe this season. Keep your vehicles locked and remove anything from plain sight that would tempt a thief. If you are out shopping for the holidays please store purchases out of sight. Keep your homes locked and use your alarm system if you have one. Report any thefts that happen on property to security. Let's have a safe and secure holiday season.

Holiday Decorations Christmas Decor decorated The Dominion this Holiday season. The three entrances of our neighborhood are beautifully decorated with lighting and holiday decorations.

For over 10 years, Christmas Decor of the Hill Country has been brightening the holiday season for hundreds of highly satisfied customers.

Last year, they provided The Dominion with a professional, hassle-free experience, and we enjoyed brilliant results that gave our entrances that special something for the holidays.

Celebrating Safely with Holiday Lighting During the hustle and bustle of the Holiday season, please remember to maintain a safe environment while decorating homes and properties with electronic detailing and lighting fixtures. While we greatly enjoy the spectacle of trees and homes all lit up in a show of celebration safety is always a concern.

• The cooler, wetter weather is usually sufficient for our soon-tobe-dormant lawns. Any additional irrigation - especially during certain times of the day - only encourages the growth of fungi.

Nature Trail

Holiday Lighting Safety Tips • Check your light sets for cracked insulation, frayed wires or damaged sockets. Any of these could cause short circuits.

• Don't overload your string sets. Check the instructions on the package to find out how many light sets can be connected to each other.

• Avoid overloading circuits. Most home circuits can take 15 amps, or 1,800 watts.

• Cover each outdoor plug and connector joint with plastic wrap to protect it from rain; seal it with electrical tape.

• If you use staples instead of tape to secure lights, be sure that they're insulated staples.

• Make sure decorations pose no danger to children or pets. Don't leave cords dangling or strung loosely on the floor or stairs.

We hope the above tips serve as a helpful reminder to ensure the safety of your home in the midst of the season and look forward to celebrating the holidays with you!

Fall Back on Winter Watering For many of us, fall is the best time of the year. It comes in the form of cooler, more pleasing temperatures and the end to daylight saving time.

Without a doubt you've already set all your usual timepieces back one hour. But don't forget to reset the most important clock - the one on your irrigation controller.

In fact, at this time of year we encourage you to just turn off your irrigation system and run it manually on the few occasions when watering is recommended.

Consider your landscape's watering needs: • Plants are preparing for dormancy. This means they don't take in as much water and the rate at which moisture evaporates from the soil is significantly less than it was just one month ago.

• Roots continue to grow at a snail's pace during dormancy. Apply mulch to conserve existing soil moisture and help protect plant roots from freezing temperatures.

Come and explore The Dominion's own Nature Trail measuring approximately six tenths of a mile in length. The Nature Trail provides a great environment for walking, jogging or exploring natural habitats safe from the traffic on road ways. To gauge distance, circle through the track twice, until you reach the end of the gravel portion of the trail, you will have completed approximately one mile. The trail entrance can be found in front of the Country Club parking lot. Facing towards the highway you will see a concreted entrance just past two oaks; from there you can take the trail along our beautiful entry pond and experience the calm of outdoors right in your own community.

The trail dips over hills and passes by a small waterfall that you may see running if there has been recent rainfall. Once you have passed beneath the entry bridge to the Dominion, you have gone approximately a quarter of a mile. Shortly after, the trail will take on a gravel form for about ten meters. At this point be on the lookout for wild flowers and wildlife as you are likely to spot some resting dove, startled by the noise as you pass by. As the path dead-ends into the golf cart trail, simply turn right and you will be back on your way to the trails entrance.

Lost Pets Every week, a number of lost pets end up at the Dominion Security North Gate.

Those pets who carry external identification are reunited with their owners almost immediately. Unfortunately, most pets picked up within the Dominion do NOT have identification, and finding the owner can take days, even when the pet carries a microchip.

Many pet owners insist that their pet does not go outside the house or yard, and so does not need identification. However, an acidentally open door or gate is all that is needed for a pet to get out and wander into unfamiliar territory.

To assist in the return of your pet should it get lost, please equip your pet with a collar and identification (ID) tag which clearly displays your name and at least two working phone numbers.

Collars and personalized identification tags can be purchased at most pet product stores, and at many animal shelters. Cost for one

basic ID tag is approximately $7.

Is there a problem officer?

Many of us, at some point, have been pulled over by a police officer for a traffic violation. Whether it was for driving over the speed limit or running a red light, most drivers have (intentionally or unintentionally) broken a traffic law. While we all are grateful to have traffic laws and want police to enforce those laws, we are generally less than pleased when we are the person receiving the ticket. We would venture to say that few of us have actually thanked a police officer for a traffic citation. Instead, we tend to get angry about the possibility of paying a fine.

These defenses include but are not limited to, the Ignorance Defense; "but officer, I didn't know the speed limit was 55". The Marginal Violation Defense; "but officer, I was only going 8 miles over the speed limit", or the Point the Finger Defense; "but officer, other cars were speeding". While these efforts may work on occasion, they are not valid justifications for breaking traffic laws.

There are many similarities between a police officer enforcing traffic laws and the Community Association (CA) enforcing the covenants, conditions and restrictions, otherwise known as the CC&Rs. We believe all residents of The Dominion are generally thankful they live in a community with deed restrictions. we also believe most residents expect the Community Association to enforce the covenants consistently. However, like traffic tickets, few residents are happy to receive a covenant violation letter.

Like traffic tickets, covenant violation letters cause residents to become angry, anxious or frustrated. Often, violators direct

their frustration towards the CA's staff and employ the same invalid defenses to justify their violation. However, neither the Ignorance Defense; "I didn't know I needed approval for exterior modifications", or the Marginal Violation Defense; but my fence is only 6 inches taller than the guideline, or the Point the Finger Defense; "but my neighbor's lawn needs mowing also", justify violating the covenants. All residents are responsible for knowing, understanding and adhering to the CC&Rs. Incidentally, most of the time, the CA is made aware of violations by other residents who have received violation notices.

The good news is, the Community Association has no desire to punish residents but merely wishes to resolve violations as quickly and amicably as possible. So...in the unlikely event you receive a notice of covenant violation from the Community Association, we ask that you understand the Community Association staff is merely attempting to protect your quality of life and investment in The Dominion. Do your best to resolve the violation as quickly as possible and get back to enjoying life.
