By David Schell I hope everyone is enjoying the summer. Our Social Committee is busy organizing a Back-to-School Celebration and Meet and Great, sponsored by Tara Knight of Keller Williams Realty. Additional sponsors include Tucker Engineering and Certified Management of Austin. The event will be on Saturday August 23 from 2 – 5 pm at the Amenity Center. I hope you can join us for some food and fun. Refreshments will included beer for the adults. Also, Round Rock Police Department will be joining us again, and will have their Kids’ ID table set up for those that may have missed them on during the Spring Festival. One issue that is been a concern of residents is the number of people going door-to-door trying to sell things. The city of Round Rock has several ordinances in place regarding door-todoor activities. People going door-to-door trying to sell a good or service must apply for and obtain an identification card from Round Rock Police Department. The police department then conducts background checks and regularly denies permits if there is a concern. The solicitor is then required to display this permit while they are going door to door trying to sell the product or service. If you are concerned about someone at your door trying to sell you a product or service, ask to see his or her license. If they can’t provide one, report them to the Round Rock Police Department at 512-218-5500. Solicitors working for a political party, religious group, or other cause that are trying to gain support or donations are not required to obtain a permit. However, all solicitors leave a property where a “No Soliciting” sign is displayed, stay on the walkway except at express invitation of the resident, and only enter a property between 9AM and 8PM. If any of these people are knocking on your door before 9AM or after 8PM, or if you have a “No Soliciting” sign displayed and they are still knocking on your door, report them to the Round Rock Police Department. Another problem that has been plaguing residents has been disposal of animal waste. them if they go to the bathroom. Keep in mind the CC&Rs and city ordinances require pets to be on a leash whenever they are not confined to the owner’s property and require that you immediately remove and dispose of any feces if your pet defecates in public areas or private property other than your own. There are trash bins conveniently located at trailheads for disposal. Also, pet owners may find it necessary to pick up after their pets in the own yards so as not to create an unhealthy, unsanitary, dangerous or offensive living condition. We have had some significant turn over at the board lately, with Bob Hill and Matt Baker both resigning in recent months. Fortunately, we were able to add three new members to the board in July. That brings our number up to six, but we have room for one more, if anyone is interested. We would like to re-welcome a past board member, Julie Cowan, to the board. She has also agreed to serve as your contact for Amenity Center issues. Many of you may already know that Julie is a native Texan, but served as a Naval officer's wife before returning to Austin. Julie works as a licensed, Educational Therapist and in her spare time serves on the boards of several special interest groups. Julie and her husband Ken moved to Wood Glen in June 2007 with their now grown children. Julie can be reached at JulieRCowan@gmail.com. We would also like to welcome Lisa Hassel to the board. Lisa has been a Wood Glen resident since 2001 when she relocated from San Antonio. Lisa is a real estate agent with Coldwell Banker United Realtors. Prior to joining Coldwell, she spent 20 years in technology marketing and advertising – most recently with Dell. Lisa’s husband, Mike, is a life flight helicopter pilot for Air Evac based in Marble Falls. They have two children, Kamryn and Caden. Feel free to contact Lisa any time at (512) 680-5490 or lhassel@cbunited.com. We also welcome Roy Wiederkehr to the board and look forward to sharing Roy’s story in the next newsletter. Stay safe, and enjoy the rest of your summer. Wood Glen Property Owners Association Newsletter - August 2014 1
