NEWS FOR THE RESIDENTS OF COPPERFIELD

COPPERFIELD COALITION NEWSLETTER SEPTEMBER 2014

Copperfield area activity has been relatively quiet for a number of months but that hasn’t kept our nearby communities from having to deal with the usual issues, the most prominent one being the constant effort to build low income housing developments in the CyFair area. While we were able to stop the last initiative in our backyard in 2012, thanks in part to Senator Dan Patrick’s help, our immediate neighbors to the northwest and southwest have not gone unaffected. Two such developments, The Lodge on Huffmeister (12423 Huffmeister) and the Catalon (near Queenston and Coventry Park), were both approved by the Texas Department of Housing & Community Affairs this past summer. The good news is that thanks to the Cypress Coalition, residents were able to get MUD 61 to deny The Lodge on Huffmeister a water permit thereby stopping the project. The Catalon was approved as well with State Representative, Dwayne Bohac initially supporting the project, but later withdrawing his support after a powerful community turnout in opposition to the project. Senator Patrick again supported homeowners by opposing the project. The battle there continues. Although the Catalon project is not with the Coalition’s boundaries, we have voiced our opposition to the project which would place such as housing development right next to single family homes in the Ashley Grove and Coventry Estates subdivisions.

We welcome our neighbors at the Cypress Coalition. Grass roots community organizations are growing throughout the CyFair area for the same reasons that we formed back in 2004. We all care about our communities and our quality of life. And as it always seems necessary, we have to constantly remind our local and state governments, our public services and our elected officials of that fact. Please give the Cypress Coalition website a visit at: www. cypresscoalition.com MEETINGS

We usually hold meetings the third Tuesday of each month at the Copperfield Community Center at 7 PM but please always check our web site as we occasionally skip months, especially during the summer vacation period.
