Hunter's Chase Gazette Hunter's Chase Tennis Courts Are Open Year Round The coming cooler weather is the perfect time for some tennis. To reserve a court time, please send an email to: hunterschasetennis@gmail.com HUNTER'S CHASE TENNIS COURT RULES

For those planning to visit the court but who are unfamiliar with its rules, here they are: • The Hunters Chase Tennis Court Facility can only be reserved by a resident of Hunter's Chase Property Owners Association.

• Reservations can only be made for the Current Week, MondaySunday.

• Residents must have a current access key/fob to make a reservation and enter the courts. (Note: it is the same fob for pool access.)

• Reservations are made on a first-come first-served basis, with reservations taking precedence over walk-up players.

• Singles court time is 1.5 hours maximum, Doubles court time is 2 hours maximum. This ensures equal access, especially during peak play times, for residents.

• If a player who has made a court reservation fails to show up within 10 minutes of their reserved time, walk-up players may take the court.

• If a player needs to cancel a reservation, please try and do so as soon as possible so that others may take the reservation and start play in a timely fashion.

Hunter's Chase Gazette Fall is a Great Time to Start a Fitness Walking Program Walking offers significant benefits. It’s a form of cardiovascular exercise that has been proven to be good for us, if not better, than strenuous jogging. Brisk walking: • Strengthens the heart and lungs • Helps burn as many calories as running or jogging • Tones up muscles, especially in the lower body • Helps prevent varicose veins • Allows you to sleep better • Improves your mood • Reduces depression and stress • Promotes loss of waste products in the tissues • Lowers the potential for injury compared to running or jogging since it’s low impact • Puts less stress on your spinal discs It takes no special skill, no need for long practice sessions and no other equipment other than a good pair of walking shoes. Hunter's Chase Gazette Cooler Weather Garden Tips From ECOSystems Landscape Services With a break in the weather comes rejuvenation for your plants.

Now is the time to cut your perennials back by 30-50% and let them flush out for a final fall flowering. The same goes for roses and many flowering shrubs, but not as severe a cut back; just a topping.

When rain has come and you're sure the heat is gone, it's time to plant shrubs and trees. From October to April gives you six months of moderate temperatures for the plants to establish roots before the heat returns. This greatly increases survivability. This doesn't apply to cold tender plants like Hibiscus.

With the cooler temps comes the increased chance for disease in your lawn, especially St. Augustine. Try to do all your lawn watering just before morning. Leaves that stay wet overnight are more prone to disease. Also, over-fertilizing your lawn can activate disease.

HERE ARE TWO FALL PLANTING PICKS:

Possumhaw Holly. When the leaves fall, the berries stay on for the winter. It's a xeriscape winner!

Mexican White Oak. Almost evergreen, resistant to Oak Wilt. Not as massive as a live oak and very tough.
