WHAT’S HAPPENING IN AND AROUND OUR NEIGHBORHOOD Karen Calvert, Communications Committee Chair

With Thanksgiving approaching, I paused today and reflected on what’s going on in the neighborhood that, in our busy lives, we often take for granted. It’s the friendly hello while passing each other on those early morning or evening walks, it’s the sharing of recommendations and advice (and all of the great items we leave on the curb for the taking), it’s the caring that we extend to our neighbors when they need help, it’s looking out for our kids at play, it’s the day to day pride

we take in our homes and the community that each of us contributes to in order to improve our neighborhood. So this Thanksgiving, I am going to take the opportunity to express my gratitude to my family and friends and all of you who make this neighborhood a great place to live! Thank you for all that you do and Happy Thanksgiving! That’s all for now – see you around the neighborhood!

TWIN CREEKS TRIBUNE NEWS FROM THE CLUB!

A Letter from Justin Jafarian, General Manager TC Country Club I’d like to thank everyone for the warm welcome I have received since coming to the Twin Creeks Community last month. It’s obvious that I am joining a special family, and I’m excited to work alongside the Management team in their efforts to make the Club the cornerstone of the Twin Creeks community! Our first initiative will be to improve the maintenance and housekeeping at the Clubhouse and FAC. Within the next few weeks my hope is that you will notice fresh coats of paint and improved cleanliness in all areas, in addition to small repairs in the locations that need it most. If there is an area that you feel could use some additional attention, please don’t hesitate to call or email me directly and we will address it promptly. Fall brings some of the best weather of the year, and along with it some exciting activities around the Club. Keep your eyes peeled for some fun events that the whole family can enjoy! Last but not least, be sure to visit the Twin Creeks website to place your “Thanksgiving to-go” order! Leave the hard work to us this year and take advantage of this special holiday service available only to Club and Community Members. Again, thank you for welcoming me into the Twin Creeks Family, and I look forward to meeting everyone soon. See you around the Club! A SPOTLIGHT ON DCCRs

DECLARATION OF COVENANTS, CONDITIONS & RESTRICTIONS

Karen Calvert, Communications Committee Chair Each month we will put the spotlight on a new DCCR (or group of DCCRs). All DCCRs can be located on the Goodwintx.com site under Governing Documents within the Twin Creeks neighborhood. This month the spotlight is on DCCRs 2.26 (Pools and Spas) and 2.29 (Exterior Lighting). FOR ANYONE PLANNING TO PUT IN A POOL OR SPA,THIS ONE’S FOR YOU!

DCCR 2.26 states: “Any pool or spa constructed on a Lot must be in-ground and enclosed with a fence or other enclosure device completely surrounding the swimming pool which, at a minimum, satisfies all applicable governmental requirements. Nothing in this section is intended or will be construed to limit or affect an Owner’s obligation to comply with any applicable governmental regulations concerning swimming (Continued on Page 5)

TWIN CREEKS TRIBUNE (Continued from Page 4) pool enclosures. No above-ground pools will be permitted. All pools and spas will be subject to the prior approval of the Architectural Control Committee and must be designed, located and constructed in accordance with the Architectural Guidelines.” ARE YOU THINKING ABOUT INSTALLING EXTERIOR LIGHTING?

DCCR 2.29 states: “All exterior lighting must be approved by the Architectural Control Committee prior to construction and/or installation. Exterior lighting must be limited to areas within the immediate front and rear yards of individual residential Lots and not unreasonably illuminate adjoining Lots or property. Exterior lighting must not result in excessive glare and must not interfere with the privacy of occupants in nearby residences, all as determined by the Architectural Control Committee in its sole discretion.”

THANKSGIVING FUN FACTS...

from the U.S. Census Bureau, National Turkey Federation & other authorities Did you know that it was President Abraham Lincoln, in 1846, who declared Thanksgiving a national holiday to be celebrated on the fourth Thursday in November? You may also be interested to know … • Thursday was selected as the day of the week to hold Thanksgiving just because it was thought to be a good day as nothing else was happening on that day. • The “First Thanksgiving” In the U.S. dates back to 1621, when the Plymouth Pilgrims got together with the Wampanoag Indian tribe for a fall festival which lasted 3 days. • Benjamin Franklin wanted the Turkey to be named the national bird instead of the bald eagle. • The tradition of the President pardoning a turkey every year started with Harry Truman.

• The heaviest turkey ever raised was 86 pounds! • Over 250 million turkeys are raised in the United States with over 40 million eaten on Thanksgiving. • Male turkeys gobble. Female turkeys make a clucking noise. • Almost all foods considered to be traditional for the Thanksgiving table are not actually traditional at all. • Mashed potatoes, pumpkin pies, corn on the cob, and cranberries were not foods present on the first Thanksgiving. • The original pilgrims probably had rabbit, chicken, fish, goose, pigeon, squash, cabbage, beans, nuts, onions, eggs and cheese at their first Thanksgiving. Happy Thanksgiving!! Karen Calvert, Communications Committee Chair

TWIN CREEKS TRIBUNE Traveling with your pet over the holidays? Here are some tips that will help make your drive smooth sailing. Submitted by Kristen West, Owner of Gusto Dogs LLC. 1. Take your pet on short trips prior to the big day to let him get used to traveling by car. 2. Keep your pet safe in a secured, well-ventilated crate or carrier. It should be large enough for your pet to stand, sit, lie down and turn around. Letting him have free range in the car not only puts him at risk, but it also poses a risk to your family if you were to stop suddenly. 3. Never let your dog travel in the bed of a truck. Even if he is secured on a short line to prevent him falling or jumping out, your pet can experience discomfort from the weather and wind or sustain injury from debris. 4. Feed your pet three or four hours prior to departure and avoid giving him any food or treats in the car. 5. Never leave your pet in a parked vehicle, which can quickly become a furnace and cause heatstroke, even with open windows. In cold weather, the car holds the temperature like a refrigerator. 6. Your pet’s microchip should be up-to-date and he should be wearing a flat collar and ID at all times.

Cedar Park Eye Care

7. Bring a bowl and extra water in case you get stuck in the inevitable holiday traffic jam! 8. Take lots of breaks to let your pet stretch his legs and relieve himself. It’s a great excuse to do some sight-seeing or pick up a fun treat for yourself!
