BOARD REPORT February 2016 issue

At the January Board meeting the Board approved replacement of pool filter materials which will clean the water more effectively and efficiently. The Board also approved repainting the monuments at the Campanello Way entrance.

The City of Cedar Park is adding LED bulbs to the street lights which should provide greater visibility.

Please note that HOA policy requires that all holiday decorations be removed 45 days after the applicable holiday.

According to the HOA deed restrictions, all trash and recycle receptacles must be stored out of site from the street. You may receive violation letters and fines if the receptacles are visible during the bi-monthly inspections.

RealManage experienced a technical glitch with the billing system late last year. If you received unwarranted late fees, please call 1-866-473-2573.

Exterior Home Improvement Projects - Please use the “new” ACC form when submitting requests to RealManage for any projects planned for your property. The ACC form is located on the Bella Vista website under “Documents” and “Architectural Committee Approval Request Form” or at the following link: www.bellavista-hoa.com/bellavista/document_view.asp?id=15 The next Board meeting is scheduled for February 3 at 6:00 p.m. at the RealManage office, 9601 Amberglen Blvd, Suite 150, Bldg G, Austin TX 78729 (next to Lifetime Fitness on RR 620 service road). Leander ISD's LEEF Gala Leander ISD Educational Excellence Foundation (LEEF) held its inaugural gala, Drop the Mic, on Saturday, January 9 at the Westin at the Domain. The first time gala was a sold out event with over 360 attendees raising over $100,000 for the education foundation!

The seated dinner and live auction event was enjoyed by all but the highlight of the evening’s entertainment was an epic lip sync battle courtesy of LISD high school principals + staff. Each high school competed for votes by a panel of celebrity judges (Bob Ballou, Bob Pickett, Olga Campos, and Quan Cosby) to win a cash prize for their high school Project Graduation. The judges had a very difficult time picking winners of the lip-sync battle - because they were ALL so awesome! The 2016 LEEF Lip-Sync Battle Winners: 1st place: $2,000 for Project Graduation: Rouse High School. 2nd place: $1,000 for Project Graduation: Vista Ridge High School and 3rd Place: $500 for Project Graduation: Cedar Park High School, Leander High School. A heavy Vandegrift contingent voted with their applause giving Vandegrift High School the ”crowd favorite” award which earned the high school $500 for Project Graduation.

Our goal is to provide the Bella Vista community with one source of local news content that is provided by Bella Vista residents. Our goal is to help build Bella Vista by connecting local businesses with residents and residents with relevant neighborhood information.

Oak Wilt Disease IN CENTRAL TEXAS Trimming trees, especially oaks, should be avoided from the beginning of February through the end of June!

Oak Wilt, a systemic fungal disease, is the most destructive disease affecting live oaks and red oaks in Central Texas. The fungus causes the water conducting vessels of oaks to become clogged, reducing the flow of water up the tree. While all oak species are technically susceptible, live oaks and those in the red oak group are the most vulnerable, while those in the white oak group (such as bur, post, chinquapin, or monterrey) are more resistant. In Central Texas, the disease has been most devastating for live oaks because of their tendency to grow large interconnected root systems. Once infected, live oaks generally die in three months to a year.

The nitidulid beetle often spreads the oak wilt disease.

According to the Texas Forest Service, in early spring (considered February 1 through June 30) the beetles that spread the disease become active, and exposed cuts are vulnerable.

Pruning should be delayed until midsummer (after January 31st and before June 30th) when the insects are less active.

Oak wilt presents differently in different species. In live oaks, the leaves usually develop yellowed veins that eventually turn brown, a process called veinal necrosis. Many homeowners first notice oak wilt symptoms when the leaf veins are necrotic, but the spaces between veins are still green. In many cases, symptoms also include tip burn, scorching of the leaf margins,

and interveinal chlorosis. In red oaks, the foliar symptoms of oak wilt are less predictable, but generally involve the browning or yellowing of leaves from the outer margins progressing inward.
