MARCH 2016 VOLUME 8, ISSUE 3
NOLAN RYAN BAND
On Saturday, January 30th, 201 Members of the Nolan Ryan Band performed at Alvin ISD’s Solo and Ensemble contest at Rodeo Palms Junior High, and they did very, very well! Nolan Ryan Band students earned 235 First Division, or Superior, ratings at the contest and 33 Outstanding Performance awards! The students were assigned a solo in December, which they learned almost entirely on their own. Additionally, Nolan Ryan’s Symphonic Band I students were required to perform in a small ensemble (3-8 students) which they had to organize and rehearse on their own. Copyright © 2016 Peel, Inc.
“The purpose of a solo and ensemble contest is to encourage individual responsibility and allow the students the opportunity to perform for comments and a rating under a little bit of pressure,” said Josh Mooney, Nolan Ryan Junior High band director. “The students spend a lot of time preparing for the event, and they get to experience being a little nervous in front of a judge. Learning how to handle situations like that is a huge part of learning how to perform.” Congratulations to the students who earned a First Division, or Superior, rating on a solo or an ensemble at the contest.
