The Lawn & Garden Spot Trees are getting trimmed and they are looking great! Kudos to everyone!! October is a good time to begin preparing for the first freeze which, on average, usually occurs the beginning of December in the Austin area. Here are a few other gardening tips from the experts at www. centraltexasgardeing.net and www.naturalgardeneraustin.com now that the weather is getting cooler: • If you are interested in planting cool season vegetables, October is a good time to plant beets, broccoli, Brussels sprouts, carrots, greens, onions, spinach, Swiss chard, and turnips • This is also a perfect time to plant onions and garlic. • Plant perennials, trees and shrubs • Divide existing perennials • Plant wildflower seeds, ground covers and border plants • Once the weather has cooled-off you can plant cold season flowers such as pansies, snapdragons, and sweet peas • Plant naturalizing bulbs (don’t require refrigeration) such as Anemones, Oxblood Lilies, Spider Lilies, Crocus, Daffodil/ Narcissus, Hyacinths and Tulips.
