Summerwood Annual Meeting
Summerwood holds an annual membership meeting in the fall of each year. At this meeting, the board of directors gives an update on what the association has done that year, explains what the plans are for the next year, and provides a financial overview. Residents have the opportunity to ask questions and meet the board members. Each of the community committees gives an update on their respective areas as well. The most important piece of business done is the election of the HOA Board of Directors. Summerwood is governed by a sevenperson board that is elected by the homeowners in the community, and each member serves a two-year term. Your board is responsible for making sound financial decisions for the community, reviewing the budget, setting community policies, making decisions on escalated actions for deed restrictions or collections matters, reviewing appeals from residents, setting the assessment rate, and much more. In order to conduct the election, we must have at least 5% of the homeowners participate in the election process. With our busy lives, many of us are unable to attend the membership meeting; however, that doesn’t mean we can’t participate in the election. Homeowners can vote online, by mail, through fax, or via email. If we do not get the required number of responses, another meeting must be called, which is an added expense to the HOA. While we did not achieve quorum at the first meeting in September, we did reach the requirement at the October meeting. This year three positions were up for election. Please join me in congratulating M. Craig Anthony and Stephanie Gaston for their election to the board and Dianne Crosley Bowdary for her re-election. These three volunteers join John Bland, Kathi Hawn, Jim Appleby, and Doug Coenen, who all selflessly serve as your Summerwood Board of Directors. Summerwood Life - December 2016
