Registration continues until we reach our enrollment cap. We usually fill our spots quickly so be sure to register early! Practices begin after school starting on April 30 and continue weekdays until school ends on May 25. Then we switch to weekday morning practices until June 22. All practices are at the Lakeway Swim Center, in the heated competition pool. or pool membership requirement. The minimum qualifications include being at least 5 years old and not older than 17 years old as of May 1, 2018, the ability to swim one lap (25 yards) of elementary freestyle, and ready to participate on a team. If you are uncertain about your child’s swimming abilities, please schedule a tryout before registering for swim team. Tryouts will be held on April 2-4 in the afternoons at the Lakeway Swim Center. Tryouts are highly recommended for swimmers who are new to swim team. The registration fee is $220 per swimmer, and this includes everything except the team swimsuit. Running a swim team is a community effort and all families on the team are needed to work at least three swim meets or to help in other areas related to team operations. If you are new to the sport of swimming, we will help you find the right job. You can learn more about our team at www.lakewaylakers.org. If you have any questions about summer swim team, or need to schedule a tryout, please contact us at admin@lakewaylakers.org.

Spring cleaning just got easier with recycling drop-off Clean out the cabinets and garages and drop off household hazardous waste at the Lake Travis Regional Re-Use and Recycling Center from 9 a.m.-noon March 21. The center is at 3207 Neidhardt Drive, just off General Williamson Drive behind Lake Travis Fire Rescue Station 601. The collection event will be free and open to residents and utility customers. To drop off items, a resident or customer must present a driver’s license or utility bill with an address in the jurisdictional boundaries of one of the following: the cities of Lakeway or Bee Cave, Village of The Hills, Hurst Creek Municipal Utility District, Lakeway MUD, or Water Control and Improvement District (WCID) No. 17. “Now is the perfect time to do some spring cleaning to clear out unwanted household cleaning and maintenance products from your home,” LTRRRC spokeswoman Julie Oakley said. Household hazardous waste items are common everyday products that people use in and around their homes that, due to their chemical nature, can be hazardous to the environment and water supply if not properly disposed. The center will accept: • Household products — cleaning products, drain cleaners, oven cleaning solvents, degreasers, polishers, pool chemicals, household batteries, mercury thermometers, gas grill propane tanks;

Dear Lakeway, We can do this! We can elect new leadership, with a new voice, who can get things done. A year ago, I began a conversation about access and inclusion between citizens and the city; inspired residents to get more involved; called for our current mayor to resign when it was discovered he deceived the community; and saved taxpayers $10 million when I filed for a recount of Proposition 1.

FREE* BACK EXAM $150 VALUE - INCLUDES DOCTOR CONSULTATION, EXAM & REVIEW OF FINDINGS

I get things done! Our city has gotten off track doing things the way we’ve always done them, with the people who have always been in charge. It’s time for a fresh perspective from someone with vision for a comprehensive plan. I am the right leader at the right time to move us forward. Please vote for me early - at any location in Travis County - April 23 through May 1, or on Election Day, May 5th. Kindest regards,

THE LAKEWAY PLAYERS PERFORM THE FOREIGNER A Comedy by Larry Shue Directed by Linda Dobbs (Director of the 2016 hit, “Ghost of a Chance”), The Lakeway Players are pleased to announce their spring show “The Foreigner”, a comedy by Larry Shue, and winner of two Obie Awards and two Outer Critics Circle Awards. You may have been lucky enough to see the play on Broadway with Matthew Broderick as Charlie, and we firmly believe you’ll be as pleased, if not more, to see the fabulous Max Green as Charlie Baker on the Lakeway Activity Center Stage. Max comes to us from Bard College in New York, and has been seen here on stage at Zach Theater, St. Stephen’s Episcopal School, and Doctuh Mistuh Productions. Other cast members include returning favorites such as Tate Allyn (as Catherine Simms), Linda Bradshaw (Betty Meeks), Alle Bird (Froggy LaSeur), Marc Carlson (Rev. David Marshall Lee), and Tom Wood (Owen Musser). This is truly a wonderful show, and will not disappoint those wanting a carefree evening of laughter, or a more thought provoking evening of social commentary. This hilarious, heartwarming story takes place in a rural fishing lodge often visited by ‘Froggy’ LeSeuer, a British demolition expert who occasionally runs training sessions at a nearby army base. This time ‘Froggy’ has brought along a friend, an extremely shy young man named Charlie who is overcome with fear at the thought of making conversation with strangers. So, ‘Froggy’ tells everyone that Charlie is from an exotic foreign country and speaks no English. Once alone the fun begins, as Charlie overhears more than he should … the evil plans of a sinister, two faced minister and his associate; the fact that the minister’s pretty fiancée’ is pregnant; and many other damaging revelations made with the thought that Charlie doesn’t understand a word being said. That he does, fuels the nonstop hilarity of the play and sets up the wildly funny climax in which things go uproariously awry for the ‘bad guys’, and the ‘good guys’ emerge triumphant. The show will run Thursday – Saturday March 22, 23, and 24th at the Lakeway Activity Center, 105 Cross Creek, Lakeway, TX. Tickets are $20.00, include a snack and soda, and can be purchased from the Activity Center at 512-261-1010. Tickets go on sale ¬¬¬¬¬in early March, so be sure to get your favorite table as soon as you can. As always, seating is at round tables for 10, and the doors open at 6:30 so you can bring your favorite food, adult beverages (including alcohol) and get the party started up to an hour before the play begins. WHAT IS NEW FOR THE DEER OF LAKEWAY? Submitted by Rita Cross The trapping of Lakeway deer continues and, thankfully, will end in late March! The last count reported that 64 deer had been baited, trapped and sent to the meat processor. One trap was removed and is being placed further away from residents on Lakeway Boulevard. Families are seriously impacted by the thrashing and crying noises of the deer, along with the spotlights and noise used to saw of the bucks' antlers, carry them to the trailer where they suffer for 8-9 hours before they are shot at the processing plant. Our recent deer census by a wildlife biologist showed clearly that the population has dropped. Why else would the trapper insist on a salary rather than a per-head payment for each deer captured? Also, when pregnant does are trapped, we lose at least two deer or even three or four, as does often deliver twin fawns and occasionally even triplets. Our organization, Citizen Advocates for Animals (CAFA), has still not received a reply from our December letter requesting that the City end the trapping next year while a committee researches humane methods of population control in other US communities. At the January City Council meeting, CAFA again asked for the favor of a reply to our letter. As is typical, the City has not responded and probably won't! The trapping program is imbedded in the minds of this City Council, Steve Jones, City Manager and Charles Edwards, the Deer Management Committee chairman, and all are against any change whatsoever or to work with Lakeway citizens. We are disappointed in the lack of progressive thinking and action of our City leaders. Please make the effort to vote in the upcoming election that may very well bring about much-needed change for Lakeway and its wildlife.

Alzheimer’s Caregiver Support Group In Te x a s a l o n e , ro u g h l y 1,270,000 caregivers provide an average of 20 hours a week of unpaid care for friends and loved ones. Caregiving is a demanding undertaking and results in high levels of stress. One core service of Alzheimer’s Texas is to provide support to caregivers through volunteer facilitated support groups. "These groups educate and inform participants about dementia and help caregivers develop methods and skills to solve problems," says Christian Wells, President of Alzheimer’s Texas. "They encourage caregivers to maintain their own personal, physical and emotional health as well as providing peer guidance on how to care for the person with dementia." At 7:00 pm on the third Tuesday of every month, caregivers in the Austin area can gather at Tarrytown Methodist to share their experiences in a safe, supportive environment. Meetings last about an hour and there is no charge to attend. “We provide a safe, confidential space for caregivers to share what only other caregivers might understand," says Barbara 12
