Our Bridgeland Garden Club’s Bluebonnet Tour on Wednesday, April 4th will take us through the Chappell Hill area and on to Washington-on-the Brazos Museum. We will return to Chappell Hill for lunch at Bevers Café.

We will meet at the Activity Center @ 9:30 am and carpool to the Chappell Hill area.

We're planning a field trip for April 17th leaving the Activity Center early Saturday morning. We're driving up to Washington County and all around. We'll be exploring the backroads for scenic blue-bonnets and other wildflowers. Our plans are to make our way to Burton and then head back on 290 for a lunch stop in Hempstead.

WCID reimburses Bridgeland Council or the HOA for the cost of contractor services to maintain healthy lakes, maintain WCID controlled parklands, and repair berms, lakes or ditches damaged by storms. Residents pay a yearly tax bill to the WCID.

Should we elect wise and fiscally conservative leaders?

The WCID budgeted in 2017, $912,968 in revenues and in expenses $795,472, ending with an excess of revenue over expenses of $117,496. The WCID has $54,115,000 in outstanding bond obligations. The 2017 WCID tax rate is $0.465, the same as 2016.

Stephanie Gay, Incumbent Municipal Utilities District (“MUD”) No. 419 provides water and sewage services thru its contract Severn Trent Services. MUD No. 419 contracts with Republic Services for trash and recycle pick up.

MUD No. 419 reimburses the Developer for the cost of building the water and sewage infrastructure, of roads, the building of parks, thru the issuances of bonds, which are paid back by the Bridgeland residents. The MUD reimburses the HOA and Bridgeland Council for the costs of deputy constables, the cost of maintaining certain park areas and part of the cost to hire a new grounds supervisor.

Residents are assessed a monthly fee for water and sewer sewage usage thru Severn Trent Services.

The MUD # 419 had a 2017 operating budget of about $4.5 million dollars and about $4.2 million in actual expenditures. MUD has $122, 875,000 in outstanding bond obligations that must be paid off over time by Lakeland Village Residents and some commercial properties. The 2017 MUD tax rate is $0.94 per $100 or appraised property the same as 2016.

MUD# 419 currently has no website nor any g-mails addresses where you can communicate with Board members.

Current property tax rate is 6 cents per $100 of appraised property value. I was unable to determine the amount of debt obligations. Go to the ESD#9 website, hcesd9. org and learn more facts. Your ESD Board sets the budget, the tax rate, and contracts for fire department and ambulance services. Your ESD Board determines where new fire stations will be built and what professional services will be provided.

The Bridgeland Garden Club on March 7th had an amazing tour at Historical Sam Houston Park, a historical treasure of residential homes.

It is like strolling in a village full of greenery, gardens & monuments in the 1800s. We saw the first cabin built in Harris County in 1823, the home built only five years after the Civil War by prominent freed Slave & Pastor Jack Yates, the Nichols –Rice-Noble home, whose owner was William Marsh Rice, founder of Rice University.

THE TIMES Bridgeland Toastmasters First Table Topics Contest Ayse Indemaio, Alan Giddens, & Anushree Desai all participated on February 27, 2018, in Bridgeland Toastmasters First Table Topics Contest. And the winner is (Drum Roll please!!!!) is Anushree Desai.

Each contestant was given an unknown topic upon which to speak for up to 2.5 minutes. Each contestant is judged in part on thought organization, originality & communication effectiveness. We practice table topics at every meeting because it helps develop impromptu speaking. So we were ready for the Table Topics Contest.

Bridgeland Toastmasters was founded only a year ago.We are all amazed at how much our public speaking skills, our self-confidence, and leadership skills have grown. Join us the second and fourth Tuesday of every month at the Activity Center from 7-8 pm. Visitors welcomed!!!

Messiah Lutheran Church is hosting its annual Butterfly Family Festival on Sunday, April 22, 11:30 am-3:00 PM at 11522 Telge Road in Cypress. This year we are adding new events! Beginning at 9 am we will host multiple vendors along with our silent auction. We’ve added a train ride, popcorn, cupcake decorating and an inflatable basketball game.

Yes we will have your favorites: delicious BBQ lunch, cookies, a raffle, children’s carnival games, cake walk, book walk, face painting, music, inflatable slide, and bounce house. We will feature both the Apple Watch, Series 3 (GPS + Cellular) featuring a gray sport band and the Echo Second Generation speaker with Alexa as part of the adult raffle.

The silent auction will run from 9:00 am – 2:30 pm. The barbecue lunch will begin at 11:30 am and can be taken home or eaten at Messiah. All games will begin at 11:30 am. Bring the whole family to see the butterfly release, eat some great food, and have some fun!

The day’s events will benefit Chrysalis, A Grace Place for Children, by providing scholarships to families that attend our school. Chrysalis features a Christian preschool, after school, and summer camp programs. Chrysalis Christian Preschool admits students of any race, color, and national or ethnic origin. Camp Hope is our three-week day camp for children ages 5 years old through 6th grade. It is an adult mentored student led ministry.

Each day, children will hear a new Bible story; learn what it means to their life by creating a craft, eating a snack, playing a game, and experiencing the story through expressive arts and worship.
