Silvercrest News SILVERCREST PTA
We are all happy to see cooler weather headed our way as we move fully into Fall. There are a lot of fun activities this time of year. We look forward to a month of gratitude, Fall fun, and the holidays! Go Stallions!
ANNUAL FOOD DRIVE
Our annual food drive is scheduled for October 29 - November 9. It benefits our neighbors at the Pearland Neighborhood Center and is a fun competition for our students. The grade level that brings in the most items will be recognized with a special reward! All of the items donated will help restock the food and dry goods pantry and will help fill holiday food baskets. Please help your student's class with grade specific requests to help families in need. All items should be in their original, unopened packaging. Open or expired items cannot be accepted. If you have any questions, please contact Kokila Katyal, Community Outreach Committee Chair, at 412.498.0642 or kkatyal@gmail.com. Thank you for helping out families in need!

Street Parking and Blocking Sidewalks Several residents have voiced concerns about vehicles parking in the street on a regular basis and blocking or narrowing the roadway for moving vehicles. Most of the roads are the standard width and easily allow for two cars to pass safely. When one car is parked in the street it may become more difficult to drive through, however when two cars are parked parallel to each other, attempting to drive through it is a challenge and creates a safety issue. Most importantly, the ability of an emergency vehicle such as a fire truck or ambulance cannot get through due to their size. That is a situation to be avoided at all cost. Please be aware of where you park and the pathway it may hinder. Driveway parking is best and safest so long as it does not impinge on the sidewalk. As a reminder, vehicles should be parked either in the garage or in the driveway and not on the street whenever possible. Many residents comply with this request and then find that their vehicles often block sidewalk access causing pedestrians to have to take other measures to get around them. While this is not a constant problem, it is concerning and it can become a safety issue when neighbors are walking, jogging, biking or taking small children out for fresh air. It causes them to leave the safety of the sidewalk and go into the street because there is no other way to get by the vehicles. Please take a moment to see where your vehicle is located on the driveway or the street. See if you can assist your neighbors to navigate along the sidewalk without going into the street to avoid placing pedestrians in the street when they should be on the sidewalks. Your neighbors would greatly appreciate your thoughtfulness.
