“Trunker” Trick-or-Treat
Saturday, October 31, 2020 from 5 to 8 pm The Woodwind Lakes Women’s Club and the Families of Woodwind Lakes have jumped on the same broom. Our two organizations have created a new and exciting event for the Woodwind Lakes neighborhood – a “Trunker” Trick-or-Treat to take place the evening of Halloween. Here is how the event is currently envisioned. 1. One street only, Ensemble Drive, will be closed at each end. 2. Cars, SUVs, and pick-up trucks will be positioned alternating along both sides of Ensemble Drive, with generous spacing between vehicles to allow for social distancing. All vehicles will face away from the family pool so that their trunks or beds will face the children as they walk up the street. 3. Treats will be in the back of the vehicles. Participants wearing masks will hand out the treats. 4. The route will be one-way, with the entrance at the family pool end. 5. There will be approximately 40 vehicles handing out treats. 6. Vehicles will be theme decorated for Halloween.

7. The Ensemble cul-de-sac will be “enter at your own risk” – scary things and screams will be hidden in there for even more spooky fun. So, you might ask, why are we proposing this Trunker Trick-or-Treat event? Unfortunately, it’s very likely that by Halloween, COVID-19 will still be a critical threat. Traditional Halloween Trick-or-Treating involves opening our front doors to many eager bouncy children and adults countless times in a single evening. Trunker Trick-or-Treat is an alternative for residents who are concerned about the risks inherent in traditional Trick-or-Treating in a pandemic, both to homeowners and to the children. With this in mind, we have planned a safer, completely outdoor event and we invite our neighborhood to participate in a fun and different kind of Halloween.
Additional Information and Updates will be publicized by email blasts from Graham and online on NextDoor.

Feeling stressed?
Tips for Managing Versus Coping with Stress
Stress hits us all in life and while a little stress is good, it keeps us focused and motivated, too much of it can grind our lives to a complete halt. Covid-19 has affected everyone so stress is no stranger to us. While they may sound similar, managing and coping with stress are very distinct behaviors. Management involves planning ahead and building systems of support before the stressors become overwhelming. Coping implies a sense of survival or just scraping by during an episode of stress. Here are a few tips for creating a stress management plan. Think how you might personalize each for your life. *Block out alone time: This means time alone, free from distractions and visitors. If you are a busy person, do not give this up. Even five minutes alone can help! *Prioritize your tasks: It is always gratifying to check off items on a to-do list. Often the easiest task is checked off first. Try doing the most difficult task first, then the easiest last. *Make time for self-care: This does not necessarily mean treating yourself in the way of bubble baths and bonbons! It means actually taking care of yourself by eating balanced meals, getting enough quality sleep and exercising to name a few. Taking care of our body should not be a luxury, so make these self-care tips a priority. Be active: Let us keep our bodies moving. Research has shown that regular exercise can lower cortisol and boost endorphins. *Create a support system: We all have a network of family and friends but writing down the names and numbers of a few in case of an episode of stress could be helpful. It is easier to reach out for support when a name and number are ready to use. *Take time for music, art or other hobbies that help relax and distract you. *Practice deep breathing. *Cultivate a sense of humor, laugh more! Hope these tips will help tame your stress today and keep the stress monsters at bay. Wishing y’all healthy and peaceful days. Take good care!! Donna Konopka
