Zombieland Wrap Up By Kat Albert
The Lake Travis Film Festival hosted an outdoor event at the historically-themed Star Hill Ranch on Hamilton Pool Road on Thursday October 29th, 2020. With plenty of room for physical distancing, temperature-taking and mask-wearing, it was a fun-filled and safe evening. Many attendees reiterated that it felt almost normal and they missed seeing people. Spooky witches and nostalgic movie characters filled the Star Hill Ranch grounds as attendees safely mingled. Guests enjoyed food and drinks catered by local Mexican food restaurant, Verdes and browsed the merchandise table, where trendy “Lake Travis” t-shirts, cups, hats and more were available for purchase. Soon thereafter, guests enjoyed a screening of Ruben Fleischer’s Zombieland. The screening was followed by the announcement of the evening’s costume contest winners. Ken Deubel as Tallahassee and Denise Pischinger as Sandy from “Grease” took home the win for best costume, though many attendees came dressed to impress. Membership chair, Darcy Benwell welcomed guests and encouraged membership as a way to support the festival which is a 501c3 nonprofit organization. The 2nd Annual Lake Travis Film Festival will be held June 10-13, 2021 at locations throughout Bee Cave and Lakeway. Watch the website: www.laketravisfilmfestival.com for up-to-date information. From beloved national brands like Athleta and H&M to local boutiques like Anvil + Aura, Urban Chic, and Flip’N Art, Hill Country Galleria is a one-stop source for all things holiday. The Galleria is pleased to welcome two new shops to its eclectic mix in time for the season—Magik Supply and the Dripping Springs Chocolate Company holiday pop-up. Magik Supply (F-145), which opened on November 11, is a creative fashion house that pushes the boundaries of all frontiers. The brand's offerings of clothing, shoes, and accessories focus on the guiding concept “Past. Present. Future.” Past, meaning vintage items; Present, meaning current trends, and Future, representing the in-house Magik brand, otherwise known as “Future Luxury Goods.” In addition to in-house creations like the Magik line, the store sells goods from popular brands like Supreme, Fear of God, BAPE, Nike, Adidas, Adidas Yeezy, and more. In addition to fashion and accessories, Magik Supply offers personal styling services, as well as creative business services like website and social media start-up, graphic design, photography, and videography. Magik Supply’s mission is as follows: “Break the world with creativity in every medium. Never let the world change or break you.” The brand pushes boundaries with fashion, art, and business services. The Black-owned, women-led business is helmed by King Magik and his partner, Shae Magik, longtime Austinites with extensive, creative backgrounds and a keen eye for art, fashion, and entrepreneurial business sense. Dripping Springs Chocolate Company will open a holiday pop-up kiosk from November 21 through December 24 between Athleta and Cafe Blue. The kiosk will be open to shoppers on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, as well as special holiday hours (check social media for updates). Dripping Springs Chocolate Co specializes in bean-to-bar craft chocolate bars made with ethically sourced cocoa beans. They will also have their hot cocoa mix, cocoa spice rub, and several varieties of chocolate bark for sale. The family-owned business is helmed by Tracey & Bob Wilson who launched the business in 2016, starting with learning to make chocolate and selling at local farmers’ markets to eventually opening a factory store, online store, and selling in 25 retailers in Central Texas. While on a mission trip to Nicaragua years ago, the family was compelled to seek out ways to support the local community. After much research, the Wilsons decided to work with cacao farmers to source and purchase their product at a fair price, and thus Dripping Springs Chocolate Co was born.
