Our Community Needs You!
LOE has an active Community Events Committee and thanks to the efforts and commitment of this team, we have been able to host numerous events which have been enjoyed and appreciated by our residents. These include children’s parties, July 4th parade, summer concerts, Oktoberfest, blood drives and recycling events to name just a few. Without this committee, these events would not happen. We are looking for new members to join the committee to contribute fresh ideas and support ongoing efforts. Community Events not your thing? There are several other active committees looking for new members willing to contribute their time and effort for the benefit and improvement of LOE. Joining a committee is a great way to meet your neighbors, learn about the community, and at the same time contribute to keeping LOE a wonderful community to live in. The Board would like to thank all current committee members for their ongoing activities and support. LOE would not be such a great place without you! If you are interested in getting involved please contact Karina Camarena at Karina.Camarena@fsresidential.com

Swans Can Be Dangerous
FIRST SERVICE RESIDENTIAL 1330 Enclave Parkway, Suite 425, Houston, TX 77077 713-932-1122 (24/7) or contactus.tx@fsresidential.com Office hours are 9am to 4pm Monday through Friday
This time of the year, Mother Nature provides our LOE swans with some common sense. It is mating, nesting, and egg-laying season and they feel the need to protect their territory against predators including humans, dogs, and other waterfowl. Most of the swans in our neighborhood are not old enough to mate but some will go through the motions of even building a nest. The pairs of swans that are old enough to produce young (cygnets) are normally gentle and can be hand fed while posing no threat. However, our cobs (males) will become aggressive and territorial in trying to protect his pen (female) and nest. This is usually temporary until mating season is over.

If you are walking past a lake and a swan swims to your side and follows you. BEWARE! If you see a swan with his neck back and feathers up, please stay away, do not attempt to feed him, and walk on the other side of the street as he is in his ATTACK position. Please warn your nannies and sitters not to stroll babies around the swans. We must try to remember that the swans are merely protecting their territory and readying the area for their young. We need to be as cautious of them as they are of us.
Community Manager Change Our HOA Community Manager, Donna McDonald, is moving on to another role within her company. We would like to thank Donna for her commitment, hard work and support of our community during this time. We wish her all the best as she takes the next step in her career. Lakes on Eldridge PEAR TREE REMOVAL : SPECIAL OFFER REMINDER As has been previously noted many pear trees within LOE have reached the end of their lifespan. There have been several instances recently where large pear limbs have fallen across sidewalks unexpectedly without warning. The HOA has removed most of these pear trees and is continuing to evaluate remaining pear trees and remove them as necessary. If you have pear trees on your property and are interested in having them removed, the HOA has contacted Pablo Sierra with All Texas Tree Services. He has offered to remove corner lot pear trees for $250/tree, including grinding the stumps & cleanup for all LOE residents. This is for pear tree removal on side yards of corner lots only. Please contact Pablo for pricing on any other tree removals. Please text or email Pablo directly before March 31 with your name, address, and

number of pear trees to remove. At his discretion he may wait until he has several requests in LOE before scheduling the tree removal and may not give advance notice. When the work is complete you will receive an invoice from All Texas Tree Service. Payments should be made directly to All Texas Tree Service. any homeowners who decide to have the pear trees removed with this offer will have up to 18 months to replace the trees. *Please note: The HOA is providing this information for informational purposes only and all contracting will be between the homeowner and All Texas Tree Service. The HOA disclaims all liability should a homeowner elect to use All Texas Tree Service to remove any trees.
The Tree Resolution requires side yards for corner lots to have 2 medium sized trees or 3 small sized trees (a listing of suggested tree species for both medium and small trees is included in the resolution appendix). Typically, any trees removed should be promptly replaced. However,

Lakes on Eldridge Maintenance/Project Highlights
Traffic Safety
Speed Limits, Stop Signs, and Respect
The one set of issues that resonates with most of LOE residents is the need to improve traffic safety throughout our neighborhood. Specifically, finding ways to curtail speeding and drivers continually running or rolling stop signs. Many of us go walking around LOE, often with young children or pets – all of whom can make rapid direction changes much faster than you can respond if you are speeding, or running a stop sign. Speeding: Please think about how little time you save by not observing LOE’s traffic rules. It can’t possibly be more than a few seconds. Think also of the devastating effect of an injury or a death you could cause by trying to save these few seconds.
•
Upgraded capabilities of Ginger Pond gate cameras with installation of new fiber optics line and new modem. This gate will now have the same or better capabilities as our other gates.
•
Commenced restoration of 15’ wide mowed area between the homeowner fence line along LOE’s south border and the Addicks Reservoir fence line. This area will be continuously maintained from now on.
•
Replaced 8 damaged, antiquated pool umbrellas for our green deck tables with 8 new forest green umbrellas and bases. These new umbrellas are very easy to raise and lower with the pole mounted crank handle. If used, please lower them prior to departure so they can accommodate winds up to 30 mph. Additional umbrellas were also purchased for installation in the 4 metal sleeves at the edge of the pool. These umbrellas will be installed during periods of high pool usage.
Running Stop Signs: This continues to be a huge problem. Most of us have witnessed daily, drivers run through these signs, without even so much as a pause. Please practice this very simple tip: (a) Wheels must stop their movement to have actually stopped the vehicle. Avoid the “bump and go” philosophy and (b) Do a “1 count” – use a simple second (one one thousand) count – while stopped, and then move ahead. Respect: Please cooperate with our Patrol Officers and treat them with respect. Please honestly look at your own driving habits. If you have gotten a bit sloppy with your stops or speeding, please change this behavior before one of our neighbors or visitors gets seriously hurt. Also speak with your family’s visitors and let them know that LOE is serious about our traffic safety.

February 28 - Lady in Waiting My Extraordinary Life In The Shadow Of the Crown by Anne Glenconner Discover untold secrets with this extraordinary memoir of drama and tragedy by Anne Glenconner—a close member of the royal circle and lady-in-waiting to Princess Margaret. Anne Glenconner has been at the center of the royal circle from childhood, when she met and befriended the future Queen Elizabeth II and her sister, the Princess Margaret. Though the firstborn child of the 5th Earl of Leicester, who controlled one of the largest estates in England, as a daughter she was deemed “the greatest disappointment” and unable to inherit. Since then she has needed all her resilience to survive court life with her sense of humor intact. A unique witness to landmark moments in royal history, Maid of Honor at Queen Elizabeth’s coronation, and a lady in waiting to Princess Margaret until her death in 2002, Anne’s life has encompassed extraordinary drama and tragedy. In Lady in Waiting, she will share many intimate royal stories from her time as Princess Margaret’s closest confidante as well as her own

battle for survival: her broken-off first engagement on the basis of her “mad blood”; her 54-year marriage to the volatile, unfaithful Colin Tennant, Lord Glenconner, who left his fortune to a former servant; the death in adulthood of two of her sons; a third son she nursed back from a six month coma following a horrific motorcycle accident. Through it all, Anne has carried on, traveling the world with the royal family, including visiting the White House, and developing the Caribbean island of Mustique as a safe harbor for the rich and famous-hosting Mick Jagger, David Bowie, Raquel Welch, and many other politicians, aristocrats, and celebrities. With unprecedented insight into the royal family, Lady in Waiting is a witty, candid, dramatic, at times heart-breaking personal story capturing life in a golden cage for a woman with no inheritance.
