THE OFFICIAL NEWSLETTER OF THE SPRING TRAILS COMMUNITY ASSOCIATION ISSUE 4

VOL 4

Spring Cleaning at Spring Trails In what is becoming an annual Spring Trails tradition, dozens of residents gathered around the community on March 5th for a bit of outdoor Spring cleaning. The event was the first of its kind involving removal of deadfall (trees limbs) and vines, as well as garbage, from the forest along our major streets. Perhaps you saw the piles of limbs and wondered if our streets were going to be lit by campfire! Fortunately no. These piles were the result of the hard work of a mighty group of volunteers who cleared a large portion of 7 areas along Spring Trails Bend and Anthony Trails. It was wonderful to see so many young people working alongside their family members and neighbors. But make no mistake. There’s much much more to do and similar events will be scheduled to continue our mission to relieve our forests of invasive vines and unsightly debris. During the event, some good folks asked why the work couldn’t be done by the Association’s landscaper. A valid question and the answer is because it would be expensive. Clearing deadfall and debris from forested areas is not a typical landscaping task. Larger townships like The Woodlands adopt and fund tree management programs, but very few homeowners associations adopt tree management programs much less fund them. Communities like Spring Trails have to rely on volunteers for many community initiatives like these in order to minimize operational expenses and the impact on HOA assessment/dues. Volunteerism has proven again and again to be a major factor in the success of community initiatives as well as bonding with neighbors. Volunteering in Spring Trails offers a number of feel good perks such as meeting your neighbors, hearing fascinating stories, learning a few gardening tips, enjoying low impact exercise, and of course actively caring for your community.

A new perk being offered this year is the opportunity to enter the Spring Trails anniversary drawing. Spring Trails will be hosting events throughout the year, all in celebration of our 20-year anniversary. Each of these events is an opportunity for residents to enter to win fun and exciting door prizes planned for our grand anniversary celebration late this Fall. Be sure to check the calendar and watch for announcements for upcoming events and community activities to increase your chances to win.

On behalf of the community the Board of Directors would like to recognize and thank the Holman, Olsen, Radics, Kinnee, Snow, Stephens, Miller, Ruggerio, Wang, Hansen, Parzyck, Ross, Kessler, Schwartz, Rueschhoff, Hermann, Romero and Hilbrich families for your efforts March 5th. Your hard work had an immediate and dramatic impact on the appearance of our community. And on a related note, a big shout out to those of you who voluntarily collect trash on a daily basis during your walking time! It really helps!!

Spring Creek Greenway Nature Center When you are planning your next hiking adventure at the nature center with your dog remember that that all dogs must be kept on a leash at all times while on Montgomery County property per the Montgomery County Animal Restraint Ordinance. This rule is in place to not only protect you and your pet, but to protect other people and their pets as well. Law enforcement has been regularly patrolling the preserve and will be ticketing people with off-leash dogs. Please visit Montgomery County Animal Control Authority (mctx.org) to read the Animal Restraint Ordinance in full.

Kindness is Contagious Pass it On

RAK (random act of kindness): Tell a Boss about a good employee. Often we are quick to report the mistakes or bad behaviors of an employee, but turn it around and give kudos to someone who’s doing a great job. RAK Bonus: Give a stranger a compliment. A nice compliment can do wonders. Don’t hold back on the compliments. Give them away. They’re free after all.
