Spring Trails kicked off Summer 2022 with a bang! Our first 5K fun run in May, the everpopular Family Fun Day in June and back in full glory the 4th of July parade. What a gift it is to see so many residents enjoying time outdoors with family, friends and neighbors. Each time we gather I’m reminded of how fortunate we are to live in Spring Trails. Twenty years ago, Spring Trails was introduced and promoted by Jimmy Pappas of Midway Cos. The initial plan described a 4,000+ home master planned community with 350 acres of parks and nature areas, a few commercial properties, an elementary school and an intermediate school. At the time, Mr. Pappas boasted this location was “as pretty as The Woodlands” and adopted many of the ideals and guidelines used by developers of The Woodlands. And we are forever grateful for his forethought and vision.
JULY 2ND – COMMUNITY CLEAN UP (ALONG THE SOUND WALL) * JULY 4TH – INDEPENDENCE DAY PARADE AND COOKOUT * JULY 5TH – MUD 94 BOARD MEETING
While Spring Trails didn’t turn out as originally planned, we remain relevant and we stand out among area developments by offering what very few master-planned communities can…an abundance of beautiful mature forestry, nature areas and green spaces. But greater still and equally important, Spring Trails is a welcoming and caring community for all generations. And because of this Spring Trails is the community of choice not only to dozens of new homeowners every year but of existing homeowners looking to upsize or downsize. This year we celebrate 20 years of success and struggles, ups and downs; but above all else we celebrate the blessings. Spring Trails is blessed with beauty, with strong community spirit, with dedicated volunteers, and hard-working and caring leaders.
JULY 6TH – RECYCLE PICK UP JULY 8TH – HEAVY TRASH DAY JULY 20TH – RECYCLE PICK UP JULY 21ST – HOA BOARD MEETING

No one knows what will transpire over the next 20 years, but without a doubt, as long as we continue to care for and give back to our community and each other, Spring Trails will remain a relevant and prosperous community for many years to come.

Spring Trails - July 2022
Golf carts are a popular and convenient alternative to cars when driving back and forth between neighborhood attractions and homes. Texas law allows golf carts and most off-highway vehicles to be operated on public roadways under certain conditions. Montgomery County defines “off-highway vehicle” as ATVs, ROVs, UTVs and sand rails. The following are the conditions and requirements to legally operate golf carts and off-highway vehicles: Golf carts and off-highway vehicles may be used on a roadway: • for which the posted speed limit is not more than 35 miles per hour; and • during daytime hours in an area not more than 2 miles from the regular parking location. Golf carts and off-highway vehicles must: • display the appropriate license plate to legally operate on a roadway; • display a slow-moving vehicle emblem if traveling at a speed not more than 25 mph; • obey all traffic laws pertaining to the movement and operation of regular motor vehicles; • be operated by a licensed driver. Deputies with the Montgomery County Precinct 3 Constable’s Office remind drivers that Sections 551.403 and 551.404 of the Code, which authorize a person to operate a golf cart or off-highway vehicle in certain locations, do not exempt such persons from the driver’s license-holding requirement of section 521.021. If you’re considering purchasing a golf cart for local commuting, check out Chapter 551 of the Texas Transportation Code for applicable rules and regulations. Keep Spring Trails safe for everyone.

Kindness is Contagious Pass it On
RAK (random act of kindness): Help your neighbor! Many of us will take extended vacations this summer. And some of us will choose to stay-cation. If you are the latter, take the initiative to watch over your neighbor’s home while they’re away. Put out and put away garbage carts. Pick up the newspaper or deliveries and store until they return. Park a car in the driveway. And of course call the police if you see anything suspicious. RAK Bonus: Mow or water a neighbor’s yard. While your neighbor is away, keep an eye on their lawn and flower beds. If they show signs of stress, take the time to water them. Or while you’re mowing your lawn, take a few extra steps and mow their lawn. Every little thing will help maintain that “lived in” look so as not to attract unwanted visitors.
SPRING TRAILS How Does Your Garden Grow? Contributed by Roger Olsen
In case you are still considering putting some new mulch on your garden, here’s a little something to refresh your memory or learn something new. The use of mulch (ground up plant material in this case) is vital in this part of Texas. Not only does a mulch layer allow the soil to soak up more water, it reduces the rate of water loss from the soil. You probably already knew this but read on. Mulches modify the soil temperature in your garden. In summer, proper mulching keeps the soil cooler. Organic mulches enrich the soil as they decay and improve the environment for plant growth. Soils high in organic matter are easier to till and better suited to vegetable gardening. Adding organic material makes the soil more crumbly, especially clay soils like ours that pack and crust. It also helps your soil to turn the mulch into the soil at the end of the growing season. A 3-inch layer of mulch on the soil surface keeps most annual weed seedlings from coming through. Weeds that do break through are removed more easily from mulched soil. Other advantages are that plant food is more available in cooler soil, and the extra soil moisture increases plant growth and yields for vegetable gardens.
Mulch tips: 1) Be careful where you or your landscaper get mulch. The guys going door to door may be convenient but aren’t likely to bring you “the good stuff” and almost as a rule I see them mulch right up to a home’s foundation without leaving a 1 foot gap between mulch and foundation. When mulch is applied right up to the foundation, it increases the likelihood that termites can be introduced into your home; 2) Look for a mulch vendor that composts their mulch or is a reseller of composted mulch. This is “the good stuff”. The heat generated during composting kills seeds and weeds that may be included in pre-mulch material. Composted mulch also won’t steal as much valuable nitrogen from your garden during the decaying phase; 3) Natural, composted mulch is dark brown. For years I have used a vendor located on FM 1488 who specializes in composted mulch products. This mulch has never disappointed and remains dark brown during the summer and is especially good to till into the soil when I get ready to re-mulch in the spring; 4) Be careful with dyed mulch. The days of toxic mulch dyes are pretty much over but it decays much more slowly in your garden and uses up nitrogen. If you like to use colored mulch, give your garden plants some extra fertilizer (NOT lawn fertilizer!) designed especially for your plants. You and they will be glad you did.
