Our Book Club is expanding! We welcome any who care to join us, usually the 4th Monday of each month at 7:30 PM (we sometimes move the date because of holidays, so check with celeste.fritz@ gmail.com ) Don’t forget about LOE’s Little Free Library located at the bus stop in front of the clubhouse! Take a book / leave a book. August 22 – Anxious People by Frederik Backman Looking at real estate isn’t usually a life-or-death situation, but an apartment open house becomes just that when a failed bank robber bursts in and takes a group of strangers hostage. The captives include a recently retired couple who relentlessly hunt down fixer-uppers to avoid the painful truth that they can’t fix their own marriage. There’s a wealthy bank director who has been too busy to care about anyone else and a young couple who are about to have their first child but can’t seem to agree on anything. Add to the mix an eightyseven year old woman who has lived long enough not to be afraid of someone waving a gun in her face, a flustered but still ready to make-a-deal real estate agent, and a mystery man who has locked himself in the apartment’s only bathroom, and you’ve got the worst group of hostages in the world. Each of them carries a lifetime of grievances, hurts, secrets, and passions that are ready to boil over. None of them is entirely who they appear to be. And all of them—the bank robber included— desperately crave some sort of rescue. As the authorities and the media surround the premises, these reluctant allies will reveal surprising truths about themselves and set in motion a chain of events so unexpected that even they can hardly explain whathappens next. notices PET OWNERS Harris County has a leash law and it applies in LOE. Please keeps pets on a short leash when approaching others. When trimming hedges and trees that back up to common areas, please remember to trim both sides! Reminder that garbage cans should not be visible from the street or common areas BE KIND – DRIVE FRIENDLY During the summer months more pedestrians, especially children, are outside. Speed limit is 25 mph

LOE Irrigation Update LOE’s irrigation system, which is based on two big pumps supplying lake water throughout the Common Areas, is fully capable even when the temperatures are 95-100F for several weeks with no rain. However, one of the pumps was shut down in July and took some time to get running again. During that time, it was necessary to irrigate 100% of LOE Common Areas with one pump providing about 50% of the water needed in order to keep everything alive. The system ran 24/7 during that time. There was no way to avoid irrigating some sidewalks at popular walking times. The brown areas should be temporary and these conditions may continue until we get a some much needed rain.

Flowering Annuals Update The beautiful colorful flowering plants that you see throughout LOE, are typically changed out 3 times a year. However due to the on-going drought conditions, the decision has been made to delay the plant change until weather conditions improve. It takes a considerable amount of water for new plantings. Some of the plants may be looking a little tired, but will be changed out as soon as possible.

PLEASE AVOID PARKING ON THE STREET Recently it appears that more cars are being parked in front of homes instead of on the driveways. Street parking can cause numerous hazards and safety issues by slowing the passage of emergency vehicles and making it difficult for the mosquito fogging trucks at night. It also obscures street visibility and increases the potential for individual injury and vehicular accidents.

Sign Up for Water Sewer and Trash Related Alerts If you haven't already, please sign up for alerts from your local Municipal Utility District at http://www.hcmud341.org. All communications regarding drainage maintenance, water interruptions, or trash service is available through alerts and on the website. Stay informed with text and/or email alerts.

According to HOA rules, no vehicles can be parked on the street if that vehicle creates any of the following situations: • Inhibits the free flow of traffic • Creates a safety hazard • Blocks access to driveways, mailboxes, fire hydrants, etc. • Blocks a clear view of any intersection • Is parked directly across the street from a driveway Guest parking on the street during parties and events is acceptable, but no vehicles should be routinely parked on the street. The HOA regularly receives complaints about routine street parking. Please park all vehicles in the driveway especially overnight. Your cooperation is appreciated.

Only when

the parking lot is full is parking allowed on west side (Clubhouse side) of Lake Center Run, but please be mindful that the bus needs plenty of space at bus stop for students to safely get on and off the bus. Parking, drop off and pick up on the east side of Lake Center Run and on the Clubhouse access road are prohibited at all times. The space between the club house access road and the bridge has been designated bus loading zone and should remain unobstructed during active loading hours. The speed limit in this area has been reduced to 20 mph and will be strictly enforced. Other ISD Bus Stops All parents are encouraged to park on the same side as the school bus to prevent children from crossing the streets.
