Horse rides for kids right in your backyard…
Children are naturally drawn to horses, especially when exposed early on. Nowadays, horses are frequently seen on television and the internet, and are often represented as stuffed animals, action figures, and more. Many groups and organizations, such as 4-H and the United States Pony Club, promote a relationship between horses and children. It's wholesome fun!

LOEN Ladies InformationClub
Ladies with the summer season winding down and kids heading off to school it’s time to set aside a few hours a month for time just for you. Does spending an evening or two a month hanging out with the girls sharing food and laughs sound wonderful? Are you free during the day to have brunch? Is reading your thing? Or would you and your partner love to meet other couples over a nice meal at one of Houston’s great restaurants? If any of these ideas sound good to you, then check out the LOEN Ladies Club. The LOEN Ladies Club is a women-only social organization formed to help LOEN ladies meet neighbors and make friends. The club provides members many ways to socialize through activity and game groups that meet monthly all year. There are groups that meet during the day and others at night to provide opportunities for all ladies to meet their neighbors and make friends. We also hold general meetings, open to all LOEN ladies, in the evenings throughout the year in the LOEN Clubhouse and the next one is September 20. Ladies, whether you are new to LOEN or a longtime resident, we would love for you to be a part of our fun and diverse club, meet your neighbors, and make new friends. Not sure if you’re ready to join yet, then try out a group out first by attending a monthly meeting. Just contact us to attend one of our activity groups as a visitor and then, if you like us, you can join the Ladies Club! If you would like more information or are ready to join, please contact Jeanne MacKenzie at loenladiesclubpresident@gmail.com.

Studies have also shown that bonding with a horse can help with anxiety, stress, anger, depression, and even ADD/ADHD. Horses can sense a human's feelings and respond accordingly. No matter how big or small a horse, they are powerful creatures and, at the same time, very kind and respectful if you earn their trust.
"Sometimes, if the rider and the instructor have confidence in the bond between the rider and horse, we try a very short distance trot for the rider to experience the horse's speed without being at a full run. We lunge the horse if the rider chooses to feel the power and strength of a Afterhorse."the riding session, the students help wash the horse, further emphasizing the importance of taking responsibility and experiencing what is involved in caring for a horse. The last activity is a sharing of gratitude. The rider offers treats to his horse, thanking it for a fun learning experience that will be cherished forever.

Children can take a horse out for a “test drive” right in our own backyard at 20239 Schiel Road in Cypress.
Introductory Horse Rides is a slow-paced learning experience for all kids! Courtney's goal is to get young riders comfortable with being on a horse to see if they would like to venture further into the horse world. "We go at whatever pace each rider needs, no matter how slow," Courtney explains. "Sticking to the basics, we walk around the area for the rider to feel the motion of each muscle of the horse moving under them while learning the horse's body language and signs of comfort.

"Get me started," she sighs, "and I can go on forever touting the benefits of being around horses. They are incredibly therapeutic animals that help people in many ways. Parents of children with special needs find that getting physical therapy with the help of horses benefits their young ones physically and emotionally. It can significantly impact the rider's mood for the entire week."
Luckily for us, local parents and grandparents can see for themselves.
Courtney says, "Riding a horse offers far-reaching health benefits by teaching flexibility, balance, stamina, and coordination. Along with the rider's health, riders can also learn to care for the animal's health by keeping up with their hooves (with the help of a farrier) and daily grooming, as well as making sure the horse’s medical needs, including vaccinations, are met. These caretaking activities naturally help teach a child responsibility.
Courtney Niland, who began riding when she was in the third grade, knows firsthand the benefits of building relationships with horses. That is why she started offering introductory horseback riding for children in August of 2021. She gives young horse rider “wannabees” a chance to get comfortable riding in a calm, safe environment.
Courtney continued, "Building a relationship with a horse is lifeenhancing and something that I believe every person should be able to experience in their life.”

Public comments are still capped at two minutes when there are 15 or fewer speakers. On items for which there are 16 or more speakers are registered, comments will be limited to one minute. Previous guidance for both agenda comments and citizen participation limited all comments to two minutes.
Citizen participation also maintains a two-minute cap when there are 15 or fewer speakers and limits speakers to one minute when there are 16 to 30 registered speakers. Should the number of speakers exceed 30 registrants, the date and timestamp of the registration form will be used to determine the 30 speakers for citizen participation.
The board will convene for its monthly work session Aug. 4 at 6 p.m., and the regular board meeting this month is scheduled for Aug. 8 at 6 p.m. See additional upcoming meeting dates here.

Cy-Fair ISD board implements new public speaker policies for 2022-23
ISD officials unveiled new policies for public comments at board meetings with the Aug. 1 release of the August meeting agenda. Previous guidance allowed community members to sign up for a chance to speak between 5:30-5:50 p.m. on the day of the meeting. The updated policy requires patrons to register by noon on the day of the meeting. Registration opens the day board agendas are posted on the district website. To comment on agenda items, patrons must click the “Register to Speak” link listed under the agenda item of interest and complete the speaker form in its entirety. For the citizen participation portion of the agenda, in which meeting attendees may speak about topics not included in the agenda, patrons must also register online by noon the day of the meeting. Instead of selecting “Register to Speak” under an agenda item, patrons can select "Register to Speak" under the “Citizen Participation” heading on the agenda and complete the speaker form in its entirety. Any registered speaker who is absent at the time of public comments and citizen participation will lose their chance to address the board at that meeting but can submit written comments to the board, according to the district's website.

Brandon's favorite quote is, "You build on failure. You use it as a stepping stone. Close the door on the past. You don't try to forget the mistakes, but you don't dwell on them. You don't let it have any of your energy, or any of your time, or any of your space." ~Johnny Cash
