Designing the Future with Sustainable Timber IN MARCH, PEFC launched a global marketing campaign designed to raise awareness of and demand for PEFC-certified timber within the global construction sector. The campaign, which will run until the end of the year, aims to leverage PEFC’s global reach and certified timber supply from 39 countries. It will demonstrate how PEFC’s members are investing in the promotion of certified timber, especially engineered wood products such as CLT, LVL and Glulam, through trade shows, awards sponsorship and stakeholder events throughout 2018. The centerpiece of the campaign will be PEFC’s sponsorship of a new special prize – Best Use of Certified Timber – at the World Architecture

Selfridges in world first for recycling PEFC-CERTIFIED paper manufacturer James Cropper, is now upcycling disposable coffee cups generated at Selfridge’s Oxford Street headquarters and store. The used cups are being upcycled into paper that will then be converted into the store’s distinctive yellow carrier bags. The final product will contain 20 per cent cup fibre, so one large bag will contain the equivalent of one 8oz cup. The rest of the fibre will continue to be PEFC certified. The bags will display the James Cropper’s CupCycling™ logo, which verifies that the fibre has been processed through James Cropper’s unique facility, alongside the PEFC logo.

House of Fraser opts for Paper LAST year, House of Fraser worked with PEFC UK to reduce the environmental footprint of its customer carrier bags. They have since introduced the new bags which are made from PEFC-certified paper across 58 stores in the UK. Eight out of ten House of Fraser customers said they want products and packaging that are responsibly sourced. With PEFC certified paper bags, House of Fraser customers can be confident the wood-based fibre used in their production comes from sustainablymanaged forests. They have also chosen to use the PEFC label on each bag to provide their customers with a visible sign of responsible sourcing.
