I N T R O D U C T I O N The growing of the city is as the "tree-ring" which recorded different ages and different developments. In this process, the necessity of constructing elevated roads is higher and higher especially in big cities and in the place with busy traffic. However, the appearance of viaduct always be against by people rather than be appreciated. No matter where they stay, almost no one welcomes them. In 1981, Jianguo Viaduct was constructed in the fast-expanding Taipei city. People view the viaduct as the answer to the traffic problems. From the view of current traffic, it has succeeded to solve the problems. Sadly, it had faced strong backlash mainly about destroying of the urban landscape from the architecture academics.

The spaces under the elevated road are usually be seen as unuseful spaces in the city, and no one would pay attention to them. Therefore, the spaces are mostly used to be parking lots and some irrelevant institutes.

02 MACHINE CONSTRUCTION I N T R O D U C T I O N In the new era, the sustainable and eco-friendly become more critical than it is before. Many people install the green devices in the building. However, the green devices are seldom regarded as a part of the building. In this project, the building and the green devices are designed together as a whole.
DESIGN STUDIO 5 PROFESSOR: CHOLOTTE TSAI (M.ARCHI,BARTLETT SCHOOL, UCL) LOCATION: WEST COAST, TAIWAN
Architectural Variations Eco-devices Combined with Building The site is located in west coast Taiwan. Spatial programme are including the main house and hostel guest rooms. The design is considering the relationship between architectural conceptual development and sustainable issue.
