ในหองเรียนที่ครูนกฮูกกําลังสอนหนังสืออยู ลูกหมีกําลังหลับอยูหลังหอง Little Bear falls asleep at the back of the class when everyone else is paying attention to the teacher.

ถึงวันสอบ ลูกหมีทําขอสอบไมไดเลย หลังสอบเสร็จ ครูนกฮูกแจกใบคะแนนให ลูกหมีรสู ึกเศราเมื่อเห็นผลสอบ When it is time to take the test, Little Bear cannot answer many of the questions. The owl who is Little Bear’s teacher shows him his poor results. Little Bear is very upset at getting such low marks. 6

เมื่อลูกหมีเอาผลสอบใหแมดู แมหมีจึงมอบดินสอใหแทงหนึง่ และบอกวา นีค่ ือดินสอวิ เศษ ที่จะชวยลูกหมีทําขอสอบได แตลูกหมีตองอานหนังสือใหดินสอฟงทุกวัน Little Bear shows his mother his test results. She gives him a pencil. She tells him that it is a magic pencil which can help him do any task in school. But first, he needs to read a book to the pencil every day. 9

ลูกหมีกลับมาบานพรอมผลสอบ “สอบวันนี้ ไมได ใชดินสอที่แม ให ทําขอสอบ แตทําไมไดคะแนนดี ขึ้นนะ” ลูกหมีพูด “จริ งๆ แลว ดินสอนั้นเปนแคดินสอธรรมดา แตเพราะลูกหมีที่ขยันอานหนังสือจึงสอบได” แมหมีพูด
When Little Bear gets home, he tells his mother that he could do the test even though his magic pencil was at home. He wonders why. His mother tells him, “You could do the test because you had worked hard. It is not because of the magic pencil.”

ตั้งแตนั้นมา ลูกหมีอานหนังสือกอนดูทีวี หรือออกไปเลนทุกวัน ผลการเรียนก็ดีขึ้น ลูกหมีก็มีความสุขที่ ไดไปโรงเรียน Since that day, Little Bear always does his homework and reads a book before he plays or watches television. 16
