Editorial We are looking forward to our Back to School (“BTS”) season 2015/16, which will kick off very soon in November. This campaign carries the theme ‘For Real Adventurers’, as launched in Europe and Latin America markets for BTS this year. As always for the BTS season, we will be launching new and exciting products to cater to the needs of the different consumer groups across the various channels this year. You will be able to find all our BTS products in the hypermarkets, book stores, departmental stores, and your local neighbourhood dealers (otherwise, please ask them to stock up on your favourite products!). Of course, you will be able to get everything at our office and the Pelikan Store at The Gardens Mall. As part of the BTS campaign, we are also running the ‘For Real Adventurers’ colouring contest. The contest starts from 1 November 2015 till 31 January 2016, and offers prizes worth more than RM10,000 in total! Read

The first art class will be organized on 31 October 2015, just in time for Halloween! This will be the first of many marketing activities being planned at the art corner of the Pelikan Store, and with your support, our goal is to fill that corner with lots of fun, inspiration and creativity. Want to know how you can participate? Read on and spread the words to your friends and family! Children’s Edu

Pelikan participated in the Children’s Education Show that took place at the Mid Valley Exhibition Centre for 3 days from 25-27 September 2015. The exhibition focused on children’s early education and showcased non-stop entertainment and activities for children and families. Pelikan booth which displayed a combination of Pelikan and herlitz products were crowded by visitors who kept everyone busy with their questions and interest shown especially on our colouring products. Other than the booth, Pelikan also organised a colouring contest, Little Adventurer Colouring Contest for the visitors of the exhibition. The contest managed to attract more than 40 participants.

In collaboration with Kids Around, Pelikan hosted a canvas painting session at the Pelikan Store, The Gardens Mall, for the ‘Paint The Town Beau’ event on 20 October 2015. The event was organised to promote Carrement Beau, a French childrenwear label. Pelikan provided Plaka paints, blue aprons and blue water containers for the event and sponsored prizes for the best canvas paintings. Close to 30 children took part in the painting session. Ms Phikyin Loo was present as a judge and to present the prizes to the winners.

Pelikan sponsored textilmalen paint for Nippon Paint’s Colourful Reads Mini Celebration that was held on 22 September 2015 at Rumah Kasih Harmoni. The event was held to mark the end of Nippon Paint’s Colourful Dreams Project, a children art exhibition that was held in 2014. In the Colourful Reads event, the textilmalen paint was used for the t-shirt painting activity. A total of 67 participants aged 7 to 18 took part in the event that also included other activities such as career advice and pathing for the older children, and interactive games for the younger ones.

Join our art class, join the fun! Our debut art class will be held at the Pelikan Store this Saturday, 31 October 2015. Two 1 hour sessions will be conducted by our art teacher, Ms Alyssa Roslan, for children aged 12 and below. The first session starts from 3-4 pm and the second session at 4-5 pm. The theme? It’s Halloween! The children will learn to paint Halloween mask, witch hat and beautiful lantern. Want to participate? You can register at the Pelikan Store, RM30 registration fee will be charged. Mo bros and Mo Sistas – who are they? You don’t have to be a man and grow a moustache to be a member of this movement. The Mo Bros are the male members who decide to grow a moustache for the month of November to spark conversation in their immediate circle, which, thanks to the power of social networks, ends up by becoming a great platform for communication. The Mo Sistas are the women who decide to join Movember and they encourage participation and help in raising funds and driving the different events that take place throughout November forward. A movement that is much more than pure anecdote

Movember: A moustache has never had so much meaning Now that November has arrived, it has brought with it one of the most original global movements in support of our health (in this case men’s health): Movember. A decade after it was launched, Movember, a combination of the two words ‘moustache’ and ‘November’ has become an initiative for collective awareness, mobilising thousands of men who, one month a year, let their moustache grow. At the same time, they organise different events to raise awareness all over the world about men’s heath problems, especially prostate cancer and testicular cancer. Another of the aims of this initiative is to raise funds to help those institutions involved in improving men’s health. Movember: The Origin Today, Movember is a great movement, which is active in thousands of towns and cities all over the world and is an example of involvement at all levels. However, we need to go back to 2003, when, in Australia, a group of 30 men decided to let their moustaches grow as an original way of supporting a friend who had prostate cancer. The initiative became bigger after 2004 with the first steps of the Movember Foundation, which, as part of its activities, focussed on raising donations with the aim of tackling prostate cancer in Australia itself.

Apart from being a platform to raise collective awareness about cancer, its problems and the reality of cancer, we must really stress the amazing ability of Movember to mobilise and to raise funds all over the world. In 2010, Movember had more than 440,000 people participating and managed to raise funds in excess of 50 million euros all over the world. If we go back to its very beginning, the Movember Foundation has raised a total of 409 million euros, financing more than 800 programmes in 21 countries. Movember in Malaysia - #TheUltimateShaveOff MAKNA - Majlis Kanser Nasional / National Cancer Council Malaysia Grow or don a moustache, help spread awareness on prostate and testicular cancer. As part of our continuous effort, MAKNA and Rainbow Team volunteer group have pledged to create awareness and raise funds for financially challenged cancer patients. Prostate and testicular cancer is the focus of our latest three-month awareness and fundraising campaign, known as MOVEMBER – The Ultimate Shave Off.

Funds raised from this campaign will ensure uninterrupted supply of financial assistance, surgical equipment, liquid food supplements, prostheses, and prescribed drugs for poverty stricken cancer patients. Funds will also be used to help young cancer survivors pursue their education by providing them with scholarships. Movember Malaysia Campaign MOVEMBER is a portmanteau of “Moustache” and “November”. MAKNA is carrying out this campaign to increase awareness and encourage more open and frequent conversation about prostate and testicular cancer that are not getting as much exposure as compared to other forms of cancer. In keeping with the theme of MOVEMBER, the campaign premise is to have men grow their moustache or beard from now until November then have an ‘Ultimate Shave Off’ towards the end of the campaign. The idea behind this campaign is for men to lend their voice to this cause and create meaningful conversations regarding male cancer awareness by stirring the curiosities of family, friends and colleagues with the growing of facial hair and ultimately shaving it off. MAKNA hopes that this would empower men to speak up about the less-spoken-of male-related cancer instead of avoiding the subject, which could put their well-being at risk. Radio and TV personalities, in particular MIX FM RJ Rod Montario, ASTRO AWANI anchor Syah Hairizal Kamalul Ariffin and celebrity chef Nik Michael along with popular local celebrities will be growing their moustache and beard, and participating in the Ultimate Shave Off finale on 2 December at the Great Eastern Mall.
