OX BOW RANCH PROGRAM

The Ox Bow Ranch has been known for producing a female that has a type and kind- medium frame, easy fleshing, deep bodied, with a good udder. This is the type of cattle that has been here and the type we breed for today. The past five years, we have set out to test the performance a little more as well as the longevity. Over the last two years, the green grass in the mountains hasn’t sustained into the summer like years past. Considering those tough conditions, limited watering holes, and miles traveled up and down the mountains for feed- we are proud of their condition going into calving, they have held up. This is the kind of testing we are talking about. This is what truly maternal is. No irrigated pastures, no creep, and traveling miles for water and feed. These cow families truly hold up and perform in rough country.

The weather around the western states the last few years has been dry and challenging to say the least. Conditions such as these are where OX Bow cattle thrive. We have, as many of you have, seen and heard reports of subpar breed ups and lighter calves. The truly maternal, tough environment tested, easy fleshing cattle have stayed in production and continue to get the job done. Non-tested, low maternal and less thrifty cattle have left the herds. Our cattle are truly out from breeding to calving in good years and in bad. Because we have tested our cattle, our conception rates continue to stay unaffected.

OX BOW RANCH BULL DEVELOPMENT

The yearling bulls offered will consist of mainly calving ease bulls, with a handful of growth type bulls mixed in. These yearlings have been grown slow, with a mix between pasture and a high-end roughage ration. Our yearling bulls consume no more than 18lbs of dry roughage in the ration throughout the last three months before the sale. A great example of the low input type of easy gaining cattle we strive for. Most importantly, this ensures structural soundness, and bulls that will hold up as yearlings in tough country, without melting at turn out. The 2-year-old bulls are a moderate set of rugged, maternal bred bulls. They are developed being turned out all spring, summer, fall and are not raised in a feed pen. Again, we are shooting for soundness and structure, not record setting measurements.

We work hard to provide a well-balanced EPD profile for our customers, but we also know what our cattle can do. Our type, kind, performance model works in harsh conditions and performs year after year. These calves were trailed anywhere from 5 to 12 miles off the mountain before weaning, then ran across the scale. No filling them up on irrigated pasture. No creep feeders out. This, we think, gives a true comparison to our commercial producers. We all know what works on paper doesn’t always work in the real world. For this reason, we are ok if we don’t always match up with the latest and greatest EPDs. Our focus is producing bulls that work for our customers and make you money. Pounds at weaning matter and your calves are not purchased based upon what their sires EPD says. We believe in a balance of pounds weaned and mature cow height and weight that ultimately drives the largest profit factor for any cow-calf operation. We have made preparations to bid and buy livestock through Superior Productions’ “Call or Click-To-Bid” service for those unable to attend in person on sale day. Please note that all of the lots in the sale will also be available for viewing online prior to sale day at www.superiorlivestock.com.

HERE’S HOW IT WORKS

Turn in Bids Over the Phone. This is our traditional method of buying livestock. To get started simply go online to www.superiorlivestock.com and click on the tab titled “Register for a Buyer Number”. Select the registration form for Superior Productions and print the registration form, fill it out and fax it in to Superior Productions at (817) 3783380 with a signature on it, or scan and email the form to info@superiorauction.com. You can also mail it in to the address provided on the form. Upon receipt of this information Superior will call you with a buyer’s number and the bid line phone number that you will use on sale day to place bids over the phone. Click-To-Bid. This is Superior’s online bidding platform for cattle buying. Please note that high speed internet is required – this is not for dial-up or satellite internet. Registration is free, but you must become a member of www.superiorclicktobid.com to sign up. Becoming a member is easy - just go to the homepage of www.superiorclicktobid.com and follow the out-lined steps to get started. Input your information and select a username and password. You will receive an e-mail confirming you are a member. From that point forward you just have to sign in and select the sale you would like to register for and once approved you will receive an e-mail confirming which sale you are now registered for.

Terms and Conditions: Cash. Cattle will sell under the Terms and conditions of the American Angus Association. No Cattle will leave Ox Bow Ranch until paid for in full. No cattle will be loaded out until after the sale. All bulls with potential defect carrier pedigrees have been tested free.

Retained Ownership : Ox Bow Ranch is retaining 1/3 revenue sharing semen interest in all bulls. Full possession sells on all bulls.

Sight Unseen Purchases: Satisfaction guaranteed on all sight unseen purchases through the sale team.

Bids: Buyers unable to attend the sale may send or phone their bids to Marc Orem, John Andras, field representatives or the auctioneer.

Fertility and Breeding Soundness: All yearling bulls will be given a breeding soundness and fertility exam after the sale, but all bulls will be guaranteed sound and fertile at the time of delivery.

Herd Health: All cattle have had a complete vaccination program prescribed by Dr. Clint Hilt. All bulls were vaccinated and received pour-on last fall. All bulls have tested negative for persistent BVD infection.

Delivery: Bulls will be delivered as soon as arrangements can be made. Please give delivery or pick up information at the end of sale. $100 discount on bulls picked up sale day.

Performance Data: All performance data will be available sale day. This includes ultrasound, final weights and scrotal.

First Year Breeding Guarantee: Ox Bow Ranch will guarantee soundness for the first year, if any issue comes up, we will replace with an equal value bull if available or do what it takes to make it right. We stand behind our cattle!

Volume Discounts: We will offer volume discounts starting with 5 bulls at 5%, up to 10% on 10 bulls or more. Repeat customers: Repeat customers from the previous year will receive 2% discount on all bulls, this will also be added on to your volume discount if you purchase more than five bulls.

Liability: All persons attending this sale do so at their own risk and responsibility without liability on the part of the ranch owners or their employees.

Cattle Inspection: Cattle are available for inspection prior to the sale at Ox Bow Ranch’s main ranch, 1 mile Northeast of Wolf Creek on Holter Lake Recreation Road then right on gravel 2.5 miles southeast. Cattle will arrive at the sale site on March 1st.

9672 was our pick, along with Dohrmann Cattle Co. of the 2020 Hinman Angus bull sale. The wide top, square hip, and width from behind really drew us to him. Then you add large SC and put it all in a moderate frame, calving ease package. It is a bull that is complimenting the improvements we have been making on the ranch. 9672 sired daughters sold at the top of our 2022 Female Sale, and daughters retained in our herd are doing a great job. 11 sons will sell in this sale.

We really appericate MVP’s moderate BW, good growth, SC, foot structure, carcass traits, and all in a medium sized frame. We have been very happy with the results we have seen in these wide based MVP sired calves. MVP sired females fit right into our cowherd here at the Ox Bow. 13 sons will sell in this sale.

7701 was the high selling bull purchased in the last Mytty Angus bull sale in 2018. We purchased this bull for many reasons, the added length, pounds added, and maternal power just to name a few. 7701 was the standout ET eye catching calf at the Mytty Angus Ranch for the 2017 season. Mytty Blackcap 87R daughters always came to the top for performance and look. 104U, the Pathfinder dam of Mytty Source 4082 would be one. These calves have added pounds at weaning, length, excellent foot, and a little more frame than the traditional Ox Bow Cattle. 7701 sired females are the up and coming standouts in our cow herd, showing all the maternal traits we are looking for. 17 sons will sell in this sale.

OX Vindicator 2167 is a big-topped, clean, stout made, calving ease herd sire prospect with a beautiful hip. He really follows in his sire’s footsteps, OX Vindicator 0017. The $38,000 high selling bull in our 2021 Bull Sale. The amount of rib shape, capacity, and width from behind all in a calving ease package, is something you just have to see in person. 2167 trailed off the mountain and weaned off at 710 lbs, ratioing 108. Yearling Ratio is 103. 2167’s epd profile reads, Top 1% SC, Top 15% CED and BW, Top 20% HP and HS, Top 25% YW, PAP, and $W. 2167’s dam Ox Bow Forever Lady 817 will obtain her Pathfinder status this year, and calved at the beginning of the AI group this winter. 817’s first calf sold in our 2021 bull sale and her second calf is a Outrider sired female that is retained in our herd. 817’s Ratios read, BR 3@92, WR 3@103, and YR 3@104.
